I feel the holy spirit inside
See the light that freedom gives
I believe it's in the reach of
Every man who lives
Keep as far away as possible
It's darkest 'fore the dawn (Oh Lord)
I turned the key, I broke it off
And I crossed the Rubicon
He’s still preaching and always has been. The world is too absorbed to listen.
Thank's for posting
Amen to that! They don't want to admit it.
God thank you for the holy spirit inside the dark before the dawn and this prophet in our weary times
I’m a Welsh and I believe this unbelievable poem talker and writer, and 100% best writer of his namesake of Mr. Dylan 🏴🏴have you ever a poem died In ally? “Cymru am byth “
The most extraordinary song ,poetry I ever heard in my life
Christian spirituality ala Dylan. A portrait of life and the meaning of what remains. Genius, depth, and meaningful.
Uncle Bob singing brilliantly and giving us his great advice. If I could I would make Bob Dylan president of all this world, what a more fantastic and peaceful place this would be and have been informed by a very reliable source that God would be pleased.
Thanks Bob for making this Rough and Rowdy!!!
"I prayed to the cross. I kissed the girls. And I crossed the Rubicon." Classic Dylan.
' three miles from purgatory, one step from the great beyond" more classic Dylan
In an interview with Ed Bradley, Bob Dylan admits selling his soul to Satan.
@@davidwarren9761 And Bob Dylan famously never makes stuff up or tells tall stories in interviews.
@@davidwarren9761 not true...you can't sell your soul, the devil has no power over the Holy Spirit...and Bob is filled with IT !
@@RodneyHaltom Prove it. Where is the evidence that he is filled with the Holy Spirit? I have never once heard him profess his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior. If you can't prove it then you are just running your mouth.
Bob Dylan is to good for this world.
“Painted my Wagon and abandoned all hope..”. Classic Dylan lyric. Love this album. Chock full of golden Dylanisms 🏆
Listening to you tonight and I must say that I have been listening to you since I was a little girl.. I connected with you.. you raised me to be who I am.. I’m grateful beyond words to have been inspired by you .. I always felt like I didn’t belong but I didn’t feel that way listening to you! I hope I can see you again I. Tulsa.. I was at your show in 2016 when I moved away to tulsa on my own once again.. lost my love to the Heavens.. I hope I see him again in another place in time. .. I walked up to the stage and you looked at me snd smiled at me. I knew you and you knew me! Kindred spirits.
Saw him on June 18th in San Diego...small venue...less than 3000. It's been 40 yrs since I saw him last...(with Joan Baez and Commander Cody). My cousin told me he was a shadow of himself. If that's true, I must love living in the shadows. He's like a fine wine or an old violin...sweeter with time. Crawl over hot coals to see his 'Rough and Rowdy Ways' tour...it's that good. It's been in my head every day since.
Well, I think this really is genius. Not just the lyrics, also the arrangement. This is ‘Blonde on Blonde’ filtered through nearly 50 years of touring, living, recording. Completely amazing. Knocks all contemporary poetry completely out the window, never thought it could happen!
Absolutely right! While the lyrics are definitely "mature Dylan," the musicianship is kind of reminiscent of Blonde on Blonde. It's basically a slowed-down "One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later)." Thanks for that insight!
Absolutely
Spot on
Yes Sir 🎉
I crossed the Rubicon on the 14th day
Of the most dangerous month of the year
At the worst time, at the worst place
That's all I seem to hear
I got up early
So I can greet the goddess of the dawn
I've painted my wagon, abandoned all hope
And I crossed the Rubicon
Well, the Rubicon is a red river
Goin' gently as she flows
Redder than your ruby lips
And the blood that flows from the rose
Three miles north of purgatory
One step from the great beyond
I prayed to the cross, I kissed the girls
And I crossed the Rubicon
What are these dark days I see?
In this world so badly bent
I cannot redeem the time
The time so idly spent
How much longer can it last?
How long can it go on?
I embrace my love, put down my hair
And I crossed the Rubicon
I can feel the bones beneath my skin
And they're tremblin' with rage
I'll make your wife a widow
You'll never see old age
Show me one good man in sight
That the sun shines down upon
I pawned my watch, I paid my debts
And I crossed the Rubicon
Put my hide up on a hill
Where some happiness I'll find
If I survive, then let me love
Let the hour be mine
Take the high road, take the low
Take any one you're on
I poured the cup, I passed it along
And I crossed the Rubicon
Well, you defiled the most lovely flowers
In all her womanhood
Others can be tolerant
Others can be good
I'll cut you up with a crooked knife
Lord, and I'll miss you when you're gone
I stood between Heaven and Earth
And I crossed the Rubicon
You won't find any happiness here
No happiness or joy
Go back to the gutter, try your luck
Find you some nice pretty boy
Tell me how many men I need
And who can I count upon
I strapped my belt, I buttoned my coat
And I crossed the Rubicon
I feel the holy spirit inside
See the light that freedom gives
I believe it's in the reach of
Every man who lives
Keep as far away as possible
It's darkest 'fore the dawn (Oh Lord)
I turned the key, I broke it off
And I crossed the Rubicon
Mona, baby, are you still in my mind?
I truly believe that you are
Couldn't be anybody else but you
Who's come with me this far
The killing frost is on the ground
And the autumn leaves are gone
I lit the torch, I looked to the east
And I crossed the Rubicon
BOB DYLAN HAS ALWAYS EMPOWERED ME . YOU ALSO? I MEAN ALWAYS.
Whatever rubicon, I'm sure Bob has crossed it many times His wisdom results from deep experience
The rubicon have to wait because Bob Dylan is on the top of the hill
We just listen to the very king of rock and roll music. No doubt he was the worthy winner of the Nobel Prize in literature. Maybe mankind must wait several hundreds of years before there is a new bard like Dylan. Enjoy while he is still alive!
No doubt. I've said it too. Dylan is the King of Rock n Roll.
Know what? I think I like B. Dylan for the first time in my 57 yrs on this earth. Love the tune, vocals, rhythm so very much.
I don't love the lyrics. The cadence of the lyrics match the song amazingly 👏. 👏
...and I know no one can sing the blues like... Bob
I believe it’s in the reach of every man that lives
This is so ridiculously good.
Dial on, Dial on, Dial on, Dial on and Dial on🤳🏽
I am thankful for Bob's music. He, as well as his music are comforting and inspirational to say the least. There were so many nights I couldn't sleep as a result of an assault at gunpoint back in the 70's, so I would listen to Bob's music and it helped me greatly to be able to get through all those sleepless nights afterward. I also thank God that He gave me the strength needed to be able to pick up the pieces and go on and for saving my life that horrific night. 🙏💛
It's really haunting when he stops forcing his voice into that shredded growl and his voice suddenly gets clear... like the old Dylan hiding there all along
Yeah Bob, thanks for torturing us with that growl for 20 years when you were able to sing normal all along😩
@@edited7382 no Bob, no thanks - but that's a lie - he didn t cos he couldnt - he went to hell and back to tetreive his voice, and that's a fact
I love the many voices of bob dylan they are all good in there own way and time.
Listening to Bob for 50 years and he never ceases to amaze with his unique storytelling and use of words at nearly 80 years of age
He amazes me. We are lucky to have him in our midst. Live just as long as you can and want Sir!
My brother started listening to dylan , I used to think I cant understand a word of what hes saying or singing , but then I heard blood on the tracks , I've been a fan for 10yrs
He has crossed THAT Rubicon, too. Happy 80th, Bob.🤎
"I'm buying a new Bob Dylan album tomorrow," said someone in 1963.
I'm now saying that some sentence in 2020.
How lucky are we!!
Love. Bobby D
It is indeed amazing, almost supernatural...
Really crazy!

I love Bob from 1963 _ 1966 the fantastic window ,,,the rest of it phist
Bob Whitman. .. ....
heavy man he did it his way......................frankie sinatra too
Dylan definitely always followed his soul. "They threw everything at me, everything in the book. Had nothing to fight with but a butcher’s hook. They have no pity - they don’t lend a hand. And I can’t sing a song that I don’t understand."
I'm getting jacked up here.
i got this cd 2 days ago , fantastic , i think i have crossed the rubicon, goodbye jimmy reed and all the rest ,you are a genius bob , god bless you.
I feel the Holy Spirit inside and see the light that freedom gives

Keep as far away as possible - it’s darkest ‘fore the dawn
I turned the key and I broke it off and I crossed the Rubicon
I can imagine the old rockers like Mick and Neil smiling while hearing this blues tune. Just so cool!
mick's too busy chasing his kids
Don't think these old rockers still don't get jealous and envious when a contemporary comes out with something really good. the competition is always there.
Wow. What a great song! Seven minutes just flies in the hands of Bob Dylan. I've been writing lyrics for nearly 45 years and can only hope to one day write something this good.
@Magnolia Trees in the Meadow True, but it gives me something to shoot for.
Well, at least I'll get some good exercise. I figure, might as well aim high. Maybe I won't ever get there, but I'll likely get a lot closer than I will by simply aiming for the middle.
Ain't dat the truth 😢
DYLANS VOICE IS
ABOVE THE WORLD
🌠🌠🌠🌍🌎🌏🔭👈
One needs a stairway to heaven just to reach it!
A most courageous song. Thanks
Ten or 15 years ago, Dylan quoted some lines from "It's Alright Ma, (I'm Only Bleeding)" and said he couldn't write like that any more. Well, no he can't, but this is better. It has the same depth, but the thoughts are more carefully crafted. One great song.
How many times has the public written him off, claimed he was used up, washed up, dried up - and now THIS, yet another magnificent flowering in the desert. He rises again! When I think about it, Bob is one of the VERY few constants in my life for the past 50 years. Thats sort of like being married. Good God.
I agree, i don't even like most of Dylan pre 1972, which is all the Dylan anyone ever talks about. And Bob since Love and Theft is the grestest songwriting of the era.
@@p1b1harper My Dad-in-law was blustering about "why did he win the Nobel Prize? All he's written is Blowin' in the Wind."
@@ferociousgumby and he is actually UNDER RATED musically. They talk about the poetry but the musicality on songs like key west is hypnotic.
@@ferociousgumby If I were living in the late 80s, I wouldnt be able to believe that he'd have such a rebirth late in his career.
Thank You, Mr. Bob Dylan!

Like a fantastic abstract painting.
I have to say, OH God. 😀😀😀.

O m g wooooow
his voice has improved....wish this world would too
It has. Pretending otherwise likely consumes a lot of your energy.
He tours so much it's no wonder his vocals have been not as clear and without studio tweaking what do audiences expect?
If one does not like it don't listen... I recommend that person reads the lyrics before passing judgment on Bob. He will always be my fav song and dance man and most prolific poet of his lifetime. Amen
This world is crammed with folks who profess to hear although they are not really listening... That's the problem. We have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason.
never will.....listen more...it's not dark yet....................but it's gettin there
never never.....land you're in ir til ur knot
Blues is never the same when it comes to Mr Dylan
Already one of my favorite blues songs from Dylan!
This is straight out of South Texas/Louisiana juke joint blues. My husband fell asleep on his drum kit playing behind Lightnin😅The lyrics are good too😁I might steal it and use it for my autobio. 😉

I think Dylan has been feeling the Holy Spirit for a long time, and it's expressed in his spiritual lyrics in many of his albums. May God bless Bob Dylan !
No one can pull off this 12 Bar Blues Sound, better than Bob Dylan. This is by far, the only way to cross over to the Rubicon ... Exceptional work of prose and Blues, mixed together with poetic expression that tells this Story. Magnificent 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🎼 🎵 🎶
Thank you Bob, for your inspiration into a journey of greatness 🧡🌟🎵
First 12 Bar Blues that I've heard from Dylan. Where was I hiding? There so many superb Blues Master's that make my ears celebrate. I don't really understand what Dylan means.
Just Beautiful!
the grave beyond the pond along the way to fly on ... oh, how delightful it is to just sit and muse with Bob singing... Yay! What a vibe!!!! Timelessness caught in a moment of glory!
heavy man heavy
Bob Dylan never ceases to amaze me after all these years.
I LOVE Dylan’s blues! Minnesota Bluesman!!Rubicon is supreme!
Dylan's voice is powerful here ...hes definitely locked into the pocket!
His delivery in this album is, even by Dylan's standards, awesome - he's found new ground with his delivery it's fantastic, so playful, soft n cool what an album this is WOW
He's eighty years old this year. Jesus
The expression ''Crossing the Rubicon'' refers to take a final decisión and asume it , whatever their consequences . Historically it's inspired by Julius Cesar when decided to face with one of his legions , the power of Roman Senate which supported his political rival and ancient almon Pompeyo . They were suspicious of the power of Cesar after his triumph in the Gallic campaign , because Cesar decided presenting his candidacy to Roman's Senate . The Rubicon River was the natural frontier of Roman Republic and according the Roman Law , no provincial governor could cross the Rubicon River in front of his troops , under pain of being declared a public enemy . When Cesar decided to cross the Rubicon , he pronounced the famous phrase ''Alea Jacta Est'' (The Die Is Cast) . It was the 49 b.C. Dylan's song has a lot of similutudes with the historical facts related in the lyrics , and with Cesar himself . Dylan himself had crossed a lot of times his own Rubicon and like Julius Cesar , even more , his empire will remains across the centuries .
Nicolas Garcia Gonzales.. thank you for the explanation of crossing the Rubicon. I love to know the meaning of Dylan's lyrics. This new album is thought provoking and I have a few other expressions I have to look for.
Thanks.. I did know this, more or less..but wanted to mention, in False Prophet..after pondering it for a month.. found out Miss Pearl and Mary Lou are old songs.. country and blues...or vice versa, thought Id mention it here by way of other explanations. In False Prophet as with all of it's open to further levels of interpretation..which is but one of many reasons the man deserves that literary honor, the Nobel Prize.. so much in it, so many of them.. God knows about now America needs to rediscover the beauty of all our heritage.. the world also.
I wrote a comment a month ago about Hello Mary Lou and Miss Pearl ; probably RUclips isn't the better place to leave this kind of comments but who cares ?? I only try to relaxing me and talking about music is the better way that I do it . Hello Mary Lou is written originally by Gene Pitney , a traditional rock'n'roll songwriter . Ricky Nelson makes a cover too , even CC Revival on Mardi Gras álbum . And Miss Pearl is written by a Sun Records artist , Jimmy Wages , but it's a rockabilly song . Chris Isaak had covered with success , even Brian Setzer and Led Zeppelin (on a medley live in concert) . But that is the idea , Dylan gives the names of two women /two songs , but really are high quality classic standards from different music styles . In this song Dylan writes a quote about David Bowie ''I relic and frolic with all the Young dudes'' (the song that he wrote for Ian Hunter's Moot the Hoople in 1972) but I'm too skeptic about some reviews that have been written on some Dylan fan-blogs even famous music digital magazines because there isn't a loa to Bowie's song but an ironie about Bowie's bisexuality , since David Bowie wrote ''Song for Bob Dylan'' (from the amazin' Hunky Dory álbum) . Bowie in his song is like jealous of Dylan success , in fact he refers to Dylan as a female character , criticizing him for having been the banner of a generation and abandoning them all (we are in 1971) . First time Bowie performed the song during a series of BBC concerts in June '71 , he introduces the song as ''Song for Bob Dylan - Here She Comes'' ; Dylan never said a word about the song , but knowing how Dylan acts usually I think this álbum is the better place to do it , because in this álbum he makes a relate of the past in some way , about his tastes , influences , friends and non-friends , about himself , his fears , hopes ... but always with his feet into the present and with his mind on a uncertain future , talkin' a lot about the death (Dark Rider or I've Made Up My Mind To Give Myself to You or even some stanza of I Contain Multitudes) maybe because his age but the future it's not written at all . Long life to the Jack of Hearts !!!!
nicely put🍀
Julius Caesar never had an empire. He sought to become the dictator of the Roman Republic. He was assassinated in 44 BC. The empire began 17 years later in 27 BC. But you wrote interesting and informative stuff.
THIS one is GOLD.
Jesus wept. This is rapidly looking like a masterpiece.
Almost every song is a masterpiece in one way or another! I'm gonna wear down the vinyl listening to this one. :)
Shortest verse in the Bible, the one I love the most.
Good God all mighty…
The poet of my generation
a true poet .
For those of you who don't yet have the album and love the details: Dylan, Charlie Sexton, and Bob Britt on guitar. Donnie Herron steel guitar, violin, accordion. Tony Garnier bass. Matt Chamberlain drums. Additional musicians : Blake Mills, Benmont Tench,
Alan Pasqua, Fiona Apple, and Tommy Rhodes (only their names are listed) Dylan plays harmonica on Goodbye Jimmy Reed but he is listed only as vocals, guitar. No pictures of the band members are included; but a great picture of President Kennedy is on the back cover.
This is some straight up blues and I love it.

This might be my favorite song on the album. He's doing some great stuff with his voice in the choruses. Like the rest of the album, it's a very patient song, but it might also be the most "youthful."
Love the bluesiness of Crossing the Rubicon
Bob Dylan is is master of many styles of music, including the blues. This is great! Cheers!
