    Just spent 4 hours doing this, yes four hahah that centre screw that’s down the hole was a nightmare! Getting the actual cooler in/out was easy, lost a screw down the chassis rail hole and finally noticed the intercooler pipe was blown so replaced that tonight!
    Wouldn’t have done it without you how to thanks!

      Brilliant, clad you got it done in the end. Dropping bolts and screws is a pain, but a magnet on a stick soon gets them back..

    This is a nice video.
    Please i have an Opel Insignia Petrol car that has Coolant leakage problem. It leaks so bad that you cant drive it for more than 10km without the tank being empty. I have checked the coolant tank and the surrounding connectors and the leak is not from there. What are the various ways or outlets you think it could be leaking from.
    I will appreciate your urgent response.
    Thanks

      I wish I could tell you, but it sounds very much like a hose has gone to me, is there water on the inside of the engine compartment? If not have you checked your dipstick for water in the oil to make sure it's not escaping into the engine? I'm not a real mechanic so I'd recommend you getting it to a garage or a professional before it goes big time and siezes the engine...

    • @Onlinebliss

      @@bobgriffiths There are splashes of coolant in different points of the engine area. But No trace of water in the oil compartment.
      So what is (are) the hose(s) that could be affected ?
      Thanks

    Thank you Evans Halshaw, Hemel Hempstead. They replaced the EGR cooler charging just £33 for replacement part, £20 for coolant and of course standard labour charges. But all sorted in 2 hours. Thanks unibob, for saying about those tell tale signs of steam from under the bonnet. Fortunately it was also a (cold) January day in 2021 which alerted me to crack the bonnet and see coolant dripping from the EGR/vacuum box. Drove straight to garage. Avoided stranding on hard shoulder, on next day trip to London!.

    Thanks for info. I was dreading it when mine gave up the ghost. Bolts were a royal pain but as long as you just persevere and don't get frustrated, you'll get there. One good trick for unseen bolts is use a telescopic mirror to see the bugger.
    For clearance, all I removed was ECU a pushed wiring aside and unclipped intercooler hose. The oil dipstick had to be prised out of way after removing bolt. Middle bolt is just pure guesswork and fumbling. Yet another engine designer who needs sacking, can't see how they stay employed ?

    • @bobgriffiths
      @bobgriffiths  2 года назад

      They do like a bit of obstacle production to warrant main dealer labour times.. Glad you persevered and got there.

    Hello, I've got an insignia 2010, each month I see that the coolant liquid tank looses about half the liquid inside. Is it the same issue you experienced before you replace the plastic part on this video?

      I get the same no apparent cracks just wet looking casing though it look oily than water

    • @bobgriffiths
      @bobgriffiths  3 года назад

      Yes, it is. I was emptying out the coolant regularly. But it may be a different leak somewhere. I think that you should see if a big spray of water shoots out of this box when you accelerate to see if it is this problem. Could be a leak in the pipes or even the rad.

    • @bobgriffiths
      @bobgriffiths  3 года назад

      mine also looked oily but I guess it's the antifreeze in the water that gives it the sheen.

    A Superb video unibob, thanks - I will be doing this on my astra next week. I query what the torque values for the T30 bolts though. 25Nm seems high, other information soruces on the web say 9Nm. Does anyone have the correct answer?

    • @bobgriffiths
      @bobgriffiths  Год назад +1

      If you have another reliable source use that one Lee, I can't remember where I got that torque from, I thought it might have been on the housing itself somewhere or maybe in a Haynes manual. Like I said, I'm not a pro and if you have better info use that. Thanks for leaving a nice comment on the video too. Good luck with your repair next week too.

    Fiddly job especially the bolts you cant see,
    but done in about 3hours (I never rush)
    Just to add
    There is a plastic bleed/vent screw on the far left of the radiator facing the intake box.
    undo it about 3/4 and fill the expansion tank until it starts dripping from the screw.
    tighten and fill the tank to the molded scale on the tank.
    I needed just over 2 liters of coolant

    Any idea what the vacuum pipes are that go into this housing do? as far as I can see it looks like a little accumulator for the turbo solenoid valve?

    • @bobgriffiths
      @bobgriffiths  2 года назад +1

      Honestly, I don't know what their purpose is, but there must be a couple of vacuum systems that produce/require a vacuum. This leak didn't seem to affect the vacuum systems.

    • @ssss-df5qz
      @ssss-df5qz 2 года назад +1

      @@bobgriffiths I figured out what it is. It's just a
      A little accumulator to store vacuum for the egr and turbo actuators. Like the big blue balls you get on VAG motors.
      Why they integrated it into the egr cooler plastic housing I'll never know. Can't say it's not inventive 🙄

      No , not really. Just when I put the foot on the throttle, a cloud of steam would come out of the back of the car, when driving. Not because it was coming out of the exhaust but it was squirted out and then the car moved forward through it.

    • @bobgriffiths

      I wouldn't have thought so, it's a coolant system issue. I'm not a mechanic but I don't think the two systems are linked.

    • @bobgriffiths

      I didn't drain it all out, I just let whatever escaped, go down the drain and then topped it up afterwards. Coming into winter make sure you use some anti-freeze in there too...

      A rare beast. Someone who bought 2 Insignia’s ! They are great cars WHEN running correctly.
      In a year on my 2010 2.0L diesel sport tourer I’ve had split turbo pipe (common)
      Recon gearbox (common faults with the m32 transmission)
      Oil pick up pipe seal replaced as precaution (common fault, when fails leads to catastrophic engine damage)
      Now this Egr Cooler replacement.
      Also new clutch and flywheel in when gearbox was out.
      Ive had it…a year and its only on 83000😂. I wish i’d researched more before opting for the Insignia. I realise buying any used 10 yr old + car will incur repair costs but these things are known throughout every insignia owners forum in the land.
      I wont go Vauxhall again.
