I paused the video when Nouman mentioned Sura Ghafir, and went to read it immediately to figure out which part hit him. This surah always brought tears in my eyes, when I reached the point where Jacob AS smells the cloth of Yousuf AS, and says I can smell Yousuf. The fact that Jacob AS knew what will happen to young Yousuf, yet let the brothers take him for play - enough for our hearts to melt. And when Yousuf AS says today there will be no question. Noman has highlighted the importance in a beautiful and logical way.
And say " My Lord, increase me in knowledge" surah Taha 114. Thank you Brother Nouman for the tafseer and explanation. May Allah bless you and guide us all the way to Jannah. ameen.

I've looked for an "emotional" tafsir of Surah Yusuf for along time. I hope this will be what i was looking for. The story of Yusuf aleyhisselam is also somehow a representative of a person's life. We experiences in our own life something that resembels jail or well emotionally. And these things become a means of our purification.

Nouman Ali Khan is young again, MashaAllah MashaAllah. And not just in looks but mainly because his understanding and sharing of quranic text and meaning is so FRESH. .
3 weeks ago, i lost my favorite teacher that major in tafsir. Ust. Ahzami Samiun Jazuli rahimahullah. All of his students cried out. Because we love him bcs of Allah. The way he teach us about al quran was very incredible. And i felt like i lost my source of teaching quran. And here i am, listened your video about surat yusuf. Even this only introduction but maasya allah tabarakallah, i already make my promise to my self that will keep up with every video of this. May Allah grant you jannah, Ustadz Nouman.
I liked the video at the begenning of the lecture, than I listened all of it and I felt like pressing the like button again, I admire the way you work through the Qur'an and help us benefit from it.

Summary(Important Points) Surah Yusuf: Introduction Part I 1. Unique gift given to Prophet(SAW) during the year of grief. 2. Yusuf - Asaf - Sorrow{ Most of his(AS)'s life is full of sorrow} [Consolation for Prophet(SAW). 3. Two important Prophets - Ibrahim(AS) and Musa(AS). 4. Islam is called(by Allah) the religion of Ibrahim(AS). 5. Conversation of Allah and Ibrahim(AS) in Qur'an- He(AS) got to know that some of his children will be wrongdoers. 6. Muhammad(AS) was the answer to Ibrahim(AS)'s du'a. 7. Ibrahim(AS) - Ismail(AS) and Ishaq(AS). 8. Lineage of Yusuf(AS) - Yusuf(AS) ibn Yaqub(AS){Israeel} ibn Ishaq(AS) ibn Ibrahim(AS). 9. Muhammad(SAW) - Ibrahim(AS) - Ismail(AS) - After many generations - Muhaamad(SAW). 10. Conversation in Bible - Ibrahim(AS) was promised numerous offspring and a special land. 11. This actually started with Yusuf(AS){Prosperity, nation, moving to Egypt, etc}. 12. This Surah is very intimate, emotional{Touches the heart} ['Ibra - Moves to tears]. 13. Christian Scholars try to re-interpret the story of Yusuf(AS) as they want to make Jesus['Isa(AS)] for all humanity. 14. But this actually stretches the truth(Conclusion first, Revelation second). 15. Anyone(Jews,Muslims,Christians) who does this falls into a trap. 16. Revelation should always be first, based on that conclusions should be made. 17. Connections between Yusuf(AS) and Musa(AS) is remarkable. This ends the summary. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Ustad Nouman Ali Khan talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair
Jazak allah ustaad NAK. My favourite story to hear but each time I never go beyond the beginning. May Allah bless you and your family. Such a humble teacher you are. What a beautiful story you’re explaining in a beautiful way.

Assalamualikum Everyone, Notes of the Lecture: Given to the Prophet (s.a.w) in the year of sorrow (more aggression towards him, no family support). In Arabic, the word ‘Yusuf’ is derived from ‘Asaf’, which means sadness. The Surah was given to the prophet in the Year of sorrow. We should consider the meaning of Yusuf as it is Hebrew Name. Islam: religion of Ibrahim (a.s). Seerah: fulfilling the legacy of his father (Ibrahim(a.s.)). Role model of the Prophet (s.a.w) is Ibrahim (a.s). Allah instructs the prophet (s.a.w) to follow the religion of Ibrahim. Ibrahim (a.s): Allah (s.w.t) made him the leader of humanity when he passed all the tests, but he was worried about his kids. Allah (s.w.t) replied to him “Leadership is not guaranteed to wrongdoers”. Yusuf (a.s) is the great grandson of Ibrahim (a.s). In the Bible, God promises Abraham that his children will be as numerous as stars. He is promised a promised land. Israelites believe that they have been promised a land because of the conversation between God and Abraham. Quraan paints a different picture, leadership will be there so long as they don’t do wrong. No guarantee of land. Allah says the land is vast, worship only me. Land belongs to Allah (s.w.t). Abraham himself is not interested in having a homeland for his descendants, but he is interested in their coming to Allah’s House. BIG CONTRAST BETWEEN THE PROMISE OF ABRAHAM IN QURAAN AND BIBLE. Implications: Jewish people: religious identity is affected by this promise. They believe that the land was promised to them from Ibrahim (a.s). More preference is given to the Israelites compared to any other nation (by Allah (s.w.t)): more prophets, more miracles, most prophets mentioned in the Quraan are from the Israelites. From a historical point of view, you can’t understand Musa(a.s) without understanding Yusuf (a.s). Yusuf (a.s) gains power and his brother’s children multiply and they are seen as an external threat by the Egyptians, who make them slaves and then the story of Musa (a.s) starts. So people before us look at it from a historical importance, and the birth of a nation/ civilization and political importance. The Quraan acknowledges passively, but the Quraan is far more concerned with the personal story of Yusuf (a.s), Yaqoob (a.s) : (Personalized surah of the Quraan). Ibrah: translated as lesson, however, it also means that ‘it will move you to tears’. Paul presented the idea that Jesus didn’t come for the Israelities but he came for all of humanity. However, this poses a problem because the Bible says that I have come for the lost sheep of the sons of Israel. And In Quraan also, he says that ya Bani Israel, I am a messenger to you. This makes it clear that Jesus was in fact the last messenger that came specifically for the sons of Israelites and that’s why they had a problem with Rasoolullah (s.a.w) because he did not come from the Israelites. Christian wanted to believe in a doctrine that internationalizes Christianity. However, to justify this conclusion you have to go back to the stories of the Prophets. First target would be Yusuf (a.s.) as he moved from Canaan to Egypt in order to help the people. Therefore, it must be international aid and help. Everything (legacy, lessons) is set aside just to cherry pick verse to validate the conclusion already made by the people. PROBLEM: Revelation speaks for itself, when you try to dig into revelation to try to justify the conclusion you’ve already made. Then there is a problem that your conclusion is higher and revelation is lower and you want to use revelation to only strengthen one point. Your conclusion should come second and your humility to revelation should come first. Not specific to Christians but Muslims and Jews do this, which is a wrong approach to revelation. Qasas: Narrative. Pharoah said to Musa (a.s) this is magic made up, and second, we have never heard of god, messenger etc. since our ancestors (This is a lie as Yusuf (a.s) was an important person). However, this triggered a question that there has to be a connection between Musa (a.s) and Yusuf(a.s). The Surat-al-Yusuf talks about Qasas: Narrative and Surah-al-Qasas talks about Musa(a.s). I thought that there has to be a connection between Musa (a.s) and Yusuf (a.s). This got clarified when I reached Surah-al-Ghafir (1.) (40:34) or Surah Mumin (the believer) which contains a very long speech given by a friend of Musa (a.s) who helped him escape. So he gives his speech (2.) when Firoun is ready to kill Musa (a.s) after Musa comes back and shows the signs. So Pharaohs were discussing the execution of Musa (a.s) and the friend (3.) was hiding his faith, but he laid it out saying why do you want to kill a man who calls to worshiping of one god? Yusuf (a.s) had definitely come to you, remember. When Yusuf (a.s) died you people had the audacity to say that Allah (s.a.w) will never send a messenger after this it is in Egyptian record. My personal view: Yusuf (a.s) would have reminded the Egyptians about this messenger that was to come and he warned them, but they were confident enough to reject him. In other words, Musa (a.s)’s legacy is so intimately tied to the legacy of Yusuf(a.s) that the worst of the believers. The pharaoh recognized him. Quran’s way of narrating or saying is that of connecting while saying or narrating, so you don’t study things in isolation. Goal of Ramadan: is not to memorize the whole Quraan which is awesome, but atleast have a deeper connection with some sections that you are able to read and cry in Salaat. (1.) Yusuf (a.s) certainly brought you clear proof and signs much before. (2.) Speech so powerful that it became part of the Quran. Rarely do we find this length of speech from a single prophet. (3.) He was educated in their schools. Referring to what they already know, what you mean you’ve never heard of this? Feel free to correct me if you find a mistake. I hope this helped you. Don't worry about losing this. Just save it in your Sticky Notes/ Google Keep or visit remindersbenefitbelievers.blogspot.com where you can access all of these notes.

I have read Quran with translation before. But this tym i started it with Ustad Nouman's podcast tafsir and its like I have never understood Quran before that way. Its so enlightening. May Allah increase him in his knowledge so he could reveal to us more of Quranic gems.
From the way Ustaz Nouman talks, it sounds like he's telling us stories of when he had conversations with Allah swt. At first, it sounds impossible. Then I realize, he does. Through Quran, the words of Allah. It's just amazing how he connects with Quran, literally like talking to a close friend.
Honestly I've enjoyed every single video from Noman Ali. I'm so thankful we have someone making content like this, that connects us to the Quran on a deeper level. Most importantly for me these videos get my brain fired up and thinking and pondering over the Quran. I love that! I paused the video when Nouman mentioned Sura Ghafir, and went to read it immediately to figure out which part hit him. I was hit by the same verse, I found myself pointing at the verse and saying "oh! oh! They knew! The Pharaohs are lying!", and was pleasantly surprised to find NAK mention the same verse.
Great lesson!
these connections are so great.. actually the great wrap up of connections in Yousef & Moses story are so great and well set.. thank you for your insightfulness. i think soon i will add Arabic subtitle to this video if you allow me.. i just want other Arabic speaking people to to benefit from it.
Yes please add it.
Yes sir please add the arabic subtitle. It can be your form of sadaqa in Ramadan.

WOW. wow. Allahu Akbar. I have no words. There’s more to reading the translations of the Quran. The hidden connections, the deep analysis and relatedness of the stories give me goosebumps. Thank you for this😭😭😭 we are all indeed looking forward for more💜
💚🤲
Tears from our eyes when we recite HIS words
The most valuable gift from Allah subhanaho wa ta Aa'laa
🥰😍🤲💚😭🥰

Indeed!
mashaAllah I just wanna say that I'm so thankful of your presence in this world and sharing all of these knowledge with us alhamdulillah Ya Allah I'm so grateful to live in the same era with you. may Allah protect you and your family always both in this world and the hereafter. may Allah give the barakah to all of us in this Ramadan.

Summary(Important Points)
Surah Yusuf: Introduction Part I

May Allah bless u 🙏🙏🙏
He is so blessed to have understood the Quran this well. And we are blessed to be able to listen to these lectures........
Assalamualikum Everyone,
Notes of the Lecture:
Given to the Prophet (s.a.w) in the year of sorrow (more aggression towards him, no family support).

This was amazing and I cannot wait.
Ustas you are blessed with knowledge of the Holy QUR'AN.
