I remember as a kid in the 80's my Grandmother driving me from store to store all afternoon looking for the Ghostbusters slime. We eventually found it, and I remember playing with it only a few times, cause there would be hairs and dirt in it from the carpet. Man, those were good times!!!
Haha! That's fantastic! Yeah, my parents weren't thrilled with slime when I was a kid. I had some MOTU slime briefly, and got a can of TMNT Ooze. But they always tried to talk me out of buying more. :-)
I grew up in a 1000 year-old village in the Cold War front state known as "West Germany" in the 1970s and `80s, and even the tiny corner shop in our village had Mattel`s toy slime on sale in two varieties: the original one which was poisonous green, and the one that *I* once bought in a fortunate fit of absent-mindedness which was of an equally poisonous shade of pink and had fat black worms in it. Compared to the Barbie and Big Jim dolls that made them a big brand name in the `70s, I have always found Mattel`s slime a rather educative toy, to be honest...educative, above all, for my twin brother who developed sharpened dodging skills, having a fist-sized lump of worm-infested slime flying at him all the time.
Here in Brazil, Mattel's Slime was released by toy company Estrela, the same who brought us later Masters of the Universe figures. Here, the brand was named "Geleca", a play of words 'geléia' and 'meleca', which respectively means 'jelly' and 'snot'.
10:13 Hey, let me tell ya, the 1976 Slime was _awesome_ for fart noises!! I was 7 years old, and at a family gathering I remember doing all kinds of fart "variations" with it (I could control the fart intensity, duration and "character" really well). Had my uncle and grandparents _screaming_ with laughter, _begging_ me to stop! Great times.
I really really hope Hasbro brings back the Kenner Ghostbusters Ectoplazm!!!! :D They're releasing some Ghostbusters Afterlife canisters but I'd love to see the Play Doh looking Kenner canisters back!!!! :D
The best part of your videos is, without doubt, your expressions of sheer unbridled enthusiasm when you're talking about something that brings you joy, As for slime, I have really fond memories of playing with it as a kid, though I think if my mom could've banned one toy from existence, that might well have been it. I had to ask for special permission to play with it (which I usually, but not always, received) which was followed by a lengthy process of covering the entire room with towels before she would hand over the slime. Good times.
My can of TMNT ooze came with a glow-in-the-dark turtle with a bandana. Just a turtle, not yet mutated, crawling on all fours, but inexplicably already wearing a bandana.
IIRC that was actually used as one of the selling points of Gak, in that it's more solid form. I know my mom softened her stance on slime considerably once Gak came along.
Slime is really one of those forever toys. not because it lasts long but because so many generations have had some version of it at one time. i love slime and as I get older, seeing stuff like this is so cool. its also possibly safer than the stuff we played with as kids.
Pixel Dan, thank you very much for sharing such a piece of my childhood memories, and I'm now in the mood for wanting to buy some toy slime to play with after watching this video! :D
I can remember my family taking a road trip to the States from Canada and on the trip my Mom bought me some Glow in the Dark Gak, I thought it was the coolest stuff and made the road trip that much more fun
A very slick, not slimy video Dan!! I loved learning about this childhood favourite. Thanks for what you do. I do think we need a shout out to all the poor MOTU Moss Men out there that were tortured by the Slime Pit.
My brother and I always seemed to make quite the mess with slime, and my mom wasn't happy. I also remember slime being a big part of the Manglor Mountain playset.
I had the original Wham-O slime too. It wasn’t really pink. It was more of a day-glow red. I’d say the biggest difference between it and Mattel Slime was that it didn’t stick to you. It was much easier to drop. If you dropped it outside on the yard or street, it was game over. It picked up everything- grass clippings, rocks and anything else it touched. Then your fun was kind of over.
True. Recently visited a local toyshop with my nephew. We checked out the cool new Lego sets and other cool toys. Before leaving he spotted the slime cans. He told me he lost his old slime somewhere. Ofcourse he could pick out a new fresh can of slime as a gift from his cool uncle Hahaha. I never saw a kid so happy leaving a toystore. Crazy stuff, tha slime😄
It's everywhere again! My son is way into it, too. I think it's pretty great, but shows that it's a toy that is totally evergreen. It's just as popular again now as it was in the 70's.
I love it, been waiting for this Slime video! Always happy and exited to see and hear more about Slime! Awesome video Dan, great work! Had Slime on my mind lately, by that i mean flashbacks and memories of the Mattel slime and the Ghostbusters Slime to be more specific, fun times and a lot of experiments :)
Very cool episode! I've enjoyed all of them so far. I think it's really interesting that Mattel filed a lawsuit over slime, but I guess it makes sense if they were going to lose a ton of money. Anyway... I look forward to the next video 😁👍
Yeah, the lawsuit was super interesting to me! On one hand, you can see exactly why they got scared with K-Mart attempting to cancel a huge order to buy the cheaper stuff instead. But on the other, you can't keep companies from making something like slime. Stuff like that is always super interesting to me!
@@Pixel-dan ditto! I just started working at a law firm last week (in their printing department) and can't wait to see what juicy cases come my way lol.
I remember all this, as well as Captain Planet's chunky, radioactive goop that you made yourself by adding water to a powder that came with certain toys in the line. Toxic Crusaders also had slime based features, but I can't remember if it had it's own brand of slime too. I think I just used the Turtle's slime for them. One line I thought should have had slime was the Men In Black toys from the late 90's. I used to buy slime from a gashapon machine at Toys R Us and if I got the blue kind I'd use it for the MIB.
Yep. I'm constantly having to find new slimes that work for the videos I need to make about retro slime toys. Luckily, Mattel slime can still be found from time to time.
Pixel Dan ya Mattel is great it just suck for stuff like the original playmates slime wouldn’t it be great if playmate rerelease their original tmnt slime the next time they rerelease the figures and play sets
I loved slime has a kid. (it came in a green trash can). I would play with it all the time. Until it falls on the glass. Then.... back to Wolco to get some more.. Love it.. :)
I am a bit late... but i loved this ! :D. Can't wait to see more ^^ I would love to see something from Captain Planet actually :D. Or something like that.. just a lot of interesting subject still to go :D
I love slime so much also start making More the real ghost busters please also all of my friends have subscribed I asked them they send the same thing specifically do a review on bug-eye or the skeleton or the trapper ghost or just any of them I went to your slime video cuz Ghostbusters are commonly associated with slime to make more videos for The real Ghostbusters toy line cuz I know there's more okay by
My MOM bought me a garbage can of slime , it was one of my favorite toys to play with , mine came in a silver garbage can , i have never seen that one since !
Wasn't the Mattel slime for the slime pit a bit more thicker and less transparant than the new stuff? I remember it really looking like snot. Ah, the good ol' times!
I think it definitely had more of a yellow-green color, like seen in that commercial for the Slime Pit. IT's hard to remember for certain the consistency, but modern Mattel Slime still flows through the old Slime Pit playset better than most. :-)
When I was 6 or 7, I wanted a can of Slime, but my parents wouldn't buy me one. And for some strange reason I thought the can it came in turned into slime when you held it in your hand
The set would cost $500 and it would instantly break upon opening the box. Also, the slime would cost $30 a can and end up being recalled due to being toxic.
When I think of slime, I think "You Can't Do That on Television" first and foremost. I wasn't allowed to own slime. Too messy for my neat mother and then eventually too messy for my OCD anyway.
The original upload of the slime is alive commercial was taken down, does anyone know of any reuploads or archives? I think the narrator is catchy and I’d like to see the full thing.
i knew SLIME in 1988. fisrt time i saw it in Singapore toy store. i collect The Ghostbusters figures & that was the first time got SLIME. it was look disgusting but fun for me. i still like to play it
I remember playing with my uncles Horde Slime Pit and then crying I mistakenly got the goo all over my big brother's the MOTU movie's version of Beast Man.
I remeber having the tmnt 2003 ooze that came with the mutations line and the canister looked just like the ooze canister from the show and i always remember being really grossed out by it but i really want to buy the mutation figures again because some of them are either missing or broken in some way like my don figure he is missing a foot probably because i played with him to much
Hi PixelDan... I have a toy review that maybe you and your wife Christina and your son Spencer to review on your video I saw this funny, hilarious game called "Doggie Doo" I think all three of you will have fun and great time together just by showing it on your video channel thanks, PixelDan Bobby
Because of the packaging of the Masters of the Universe slime I ruined my Beastman when I put the slime on him! If anyone remembers he was fuzzy!!! Lol
Slime is Absolutely Pure Nostalgia!
This was super interesting, Dan. I had no idea Slime was so full of history!
What are you doing here lol
"Bucket of Yuck" sounds like a new item Taco Bell would offer to the 2am crowd lol
Great coverage of the topic. Lots of stuff I didn't know.
Chadtronic wow your here!!
What the FRICK!
I don't like it
Hey I know you
I didn’t know you watched pixel dan chad

I always enjoyed the slime from quarter "candy" machines as well.
Heck yeah! That's something else I should have brought up! I used to buy those too!

Thank you! This topic was a lot of fun to research. It was easy to work on, because I found it so fascinating! Always the sign of a good topic. :-)
You looooove that MOTU slime pit. You’re face is priceless when you talk about it. :)
Haha! Thanks man. I do find it super fun. :-)
Pixel Dan It’s nice. I love when nostalgia does that to me.
My can of TMNT ooze came with a glow-in-the-dark turtle with a bandana. Just a turtle, not yet mutated, crawling on all fours, but inexplicably already wearing a bandana.

Hey Dan, great video! I loved playing with slime as a kid, I'm happy to see it's still *sticking* around.
:-D Thanks so much!!
the vintage motu horde slime pit is my all time favorite, thank you Pixel Dan for another great toy splosion episode...
i really love mini documentaries about random cool stuff like this, good work as always dan!
Thank you!!
A very slick, not slimy video Dan!! I loved learning about this childhood favourite. Thanks for what you do. I do think we need a shout out to all the poor MOTU Moss Men out there that were tortured by the Slime Pit.
Moss Man, Grizzlor, and Panthor. Pour one (slime can) out for them. ;-) Thanks for watching!!
My brother and I always seemed to make quite the mess with slime, and my mom wasn't happy. I also remember slime being a big part of the Manglor Mountain playset.
Oh yeah, Manglor Mountain! That's a good one!
I have faint memory of the slime with the black worms. I'm so glad I found your channel/video to fill in my missing memories. 🙂
Great stuff Dan, I'm a big fan of slime. Loved all the slime toys from the 80s and 90s, I'll actually be reviewing a slime type toy this week :)
...its cool to see youtube videos of how to make your own custom slime. The MOTU slime was cool back in the days
Yeah, the DIY Slime thing is big now. I probably should have touched on that a bit more int he video. Thanks for watching!!
Great episode. The motu slime pit is one of my fav playsets. I need to find some slime so I can do a proper review of it
I love these videos keep them coming!
Thank you!
Fantastic depth and research. I wasn't expecting this to be so interesting.
Thank you so much! :-)
I've been always been a fan of Gak, ever since I was little. I even got one before Toys R Us closed.
Great Episode, We've all now been Slimed Courtesy of Toysplosion!
_He slimed me._
I had the original Wham-O slime too. It wasn’t really pink. It was more of a day-glow red.

Thank you for this video I will show it to my oldest daughter, she is on a big slime kick right now. Love your family friendly content :)
Great video. 👍👍
Excited for the video!
I had a childhood friend who used the TMNT Ooze as hair gel. I don't think I'd really recommend that today.
Oh yikes! lol
Nickelodeon even sold a “green slime” shampoo and hand soap! It was just regular soap dyed green.
And there was also a toothpaste but instead it stained your teeth
I wish I had a case of the old MOTU slime! Great video Dan!
Hey Dan! Very nice and informative video, love it. Best of luck and keep rocking!
Wow there is now countdown for new videos? That's awesome :D reminder set :D
It's a new "premier" feature RUclips rolled out. I think it's fun, and something I'll probably use for episodes of Toysposion going forward. :-)

For sure! Haha!
Dan, this episode turned out great! Very informative.
That was so cool thanks! 😊

Yep. I'm constantly having to find new slimes that work for the videos I need to make about retro slime toys. Luckily, Mattel slime can still be found from time to time.

I remember I had some Space Jam BK toys that I liked to smother in Mars Mud!
My favorite was a game called dissect an Alien
The Mad Scientist toy? I've done a video on that one. I love it! Another great Mattel slime toy. :-)
Yes that is the set, I just seen your video thanks for the memories
I wasn't allowed to have it, but by the time of TMNT, my parents couldn't stop me.
So fun, I have Slime Pit and I still every once in awhile get out my Dollar General Slime and Slime some Etherians..
Nice advertorial!
That kids face at around 1.50 😂
Almost every parent everywhere, or anyone who has ever had to clean their house, will say that slime should be outlawed.
And I always thought the MOTU Slime Pit was the origin of slime as a toy.
I just ❤️ slime!!
My MOM bought me a garbage can of slime , it was one of my favorite toys to play with , mine came in a silver garbage can , i have never seen that one since !
Used to be able to buy this at Joke Shops.

Wow! I learned so much about Slime today! How often can I say that?
This video would've been better if at the end Dan got slimed, Double Dare style!! :D
The mega countryx break out beast toy line is a great way to get a good stock of Mattel slime
You Can't Do That On Television, came out in the 80's not the 90's.
Am I the only person old enough to remember when slime was sold in the fifty cent capsule machine fun times!
When I was 6 or 7, I wanted a can of Slime, but my parents wouldn't buy me one. And for some strange reason I thought the can it came in turned into slime when you held it in your hand
Slimpit incomming 2021 i hope :D

Marvin Harrison Smith II 😂

Super vidéo et merci de ne pas mettre une pub toutes cinq minutes comme certains.
The Mattel Slime with worms was cool. But you couldn't load the slime with worms into the slime monster of the Slime Monster Game and have it work.
The original upload of the slime is alive commercial was taken down, does anyone know of any reuploads or archives? I think the narrator is catchy and I’d like to see the full thing.
I am sure there was alot of slime happening behind the scenes of Nickelodean.
i knew SLIME in 1988. fisrt time i saw it in Singapore toy store. i collect The Ghostbusters figures & that was the first time got SLIME. it was look disgusting but fun for me. i still like to play it
As someone who works in a Wal-Mart Toy Dept, I despise slime
Purple slime was called ooze?
seriously we have a venom movie and no slime symbiote toy to buy ! ?
Ha! Right?!?!?!
It was originally designed as a bacterial growth medium for labs.
Toxic crusaders (based on the toxic avenger movie) had slime. I was called "toxie's toxic waste
Great episode Dan! Mattel is at it again with their recent Mega Construx Breakout Beasts line: play.megaconstrux.com/en-us/worlds/breakout-beasts
Mattel Mad Scientist!!
Fun fact: Nicelodeon's Slime Geyser was infested with fire ants.
I remember playing with my uncles Horde Slime Pit and then crying I mistakenly got the goo all over my big brother's the MOTU movie's version of Beast Man.
You forgot to mention Mad Scientist toyline. That had plenty of slime.
I remeber having the tmnt 2003 ooze that came with the mutations line and the canister looked just like the ooze canister from the show and i always remember being really grossed out by it but i really want to buy the mutation figures again because some of them are either missing or broken in some way like my don figure he is missing a foot probably because i played with him to much
MOTU still had the best stuff imo
I’m 100% alone on this, but Rock Lords episode?
💛💙💜❤
Hi PixelDan...
I have a toy review that maybe you and your wife Christina and your son Spencer to review on your video
I saw this funny, hilarious game called "Doggie Doo"
I think all three of you will have fun and great time together just by showing it on your video channel
thanks, PixelDan

Honestly, I'm not into the poop toys. I like slime stuff, but I don't "get" the current poop craze. Sorry!
Another way to get some Mattel Slime
The Mega Contrux Breakout Beast.
Mattel owns Mega Construx Lol.
