- Did you ever want to live stream your DJI drone flight in OBS Studio? It's easy to do using an RTMP server. MonaServer is a FREE open source program that creates a RTMP service that your DJI drone can connect to and stream the live video. While there is a little delay for the footage to arrive, a lot of possibilities are here.
If you get an error message saying your rtmp address is incorrect, add “/live” to the end of the address. (Without the quotation marks)
You can also try adding just the “/“ to the end of your rtmp address if you get an invalid address error. (Without the quotation marks)
If you have problems connecting to MonaServer, your firewall (Windows Defender or alternative) may be preventing MonaServer from Accessing Port 1935 on your computer. You may need to open port 1935 on your firewall.
If VLC Video Source isn't available in OBS, you can try adding Media Source. In the Media Source settings, uncheck the "Local File" box and in the Input section, add your RTMP address there. I haven't really used option, so can't speak further on the other settings.

Also note:
Changing your drone from Camera mode to Video mode might kill your live stream as switching between to 2 mode will change the live stream's aspect ratio. I suggest keeping the drone in Video mode to keep a 16:9 video ratio.
Remember to fly safe! There will be a little delay between the what the drone sees, and what will show up on your computer screen, so do NOT use this technique in place of flying line of sight or your controller's HUD.

I think you can use an app called IvCam, on the computer and iphone, then you can use the iphone in OBS

You don't need VLC. You can just add "Media Source", deselect "local file" and type the rtmp address in the input field.

Just a heads up, this MIGHT cause a flyaway problem. It's suggested that your phone's WIFI be turned off while flying the Mavic Mini, The Mini 2 uses a different frequency because it uses the Oculus (sp?) communication system. I almost lost my drone one day and did a lot of looking around as to what might have caused it, and that's the only thing that made sense and haven't had the problem again since turning of my phone/tablet's wifi while using them to fly my Mini.

Great video Steve - a couple of qq. I have the Mavic Air 2 and the latest update allows for live streaming. It works but I keep getting a "too low bitrate" I am considering using VLC with OBS. Do I still need to use Mona????

This needs to be revisited and updated big time. Im running obs studio and I want live drone footage in one of my scenes. This shouldn't be to difficult but it seems to be for me. The information in this video isnt spot on. For the love of god do a video of just having live footage from the drone to obs without any middle software as dji now has rtmp implemented in the app.

Yes. There's an update for GoPro called the GoPro Webcam. You have to download it.
The dji fly app now has a rtmp option for live streaming, I’ve tried the same process but with a dji mavic mini and the server wouldn’t allow it, saying no application a available, could do you a video on the dji fly app please if possible, awesome video also

I tried it on the DJI Smart Controller first, but I was getting server errors.
I did attach my iPhone to the remote and managed to get the stream working, but then it stopped on VLC.
If anyone knows if this can work on the DJI Smart Controller, please let me know. Thanks.
if you have a smart controller just can just use the HDMI out into a switcher or capture card.

Thanks Steve- I have a Macbook and therefore have tried the same process using local RTMP Server 3.0 instead of Monaserver. I input the laptop IP address into DJI Go 4, go live, then the little camera icon on the laptop uncrosses, turns red which i assume means the signal is being received. However it still says " no live stream" and the IP address on the RTMP Server 3.0 is the default one and I cannot change it to the laptops one. Can you perhaps confirm what I am doing wrong and if it is actually possible to live stream from Mavic Pro-RTMP 3.0-VLC-OBS-RUclips? My main aim is to be able to add overlay graphics onto my live stream with OBS. Any help would be appreciated and thanks for the great content.

My next question is : It works if the iphone with DJI go 4 and the macbook are both connected to the same Fibre Home WIFI.
It does not work if I try connect both devices to the same 3G/4G mobile router, or if they are both connected to individual different cellular routes ( the live stream signal on the DJI controller remains white and never turns blue).
Is it not possible to stream from the Mavic to OBS to RUclips live via a celluar signal?
Our filming work is out in the bush with no WIFI so praying there is a workable solution via cellular signal somehow :)

Found this video trying to do this with the Mini 4 Pro and kept getting "Invalid URL Format". You have to put a / at the end of the RTMP address after the port.

I tried this with mac using the software you introduce for mac (github) and it all went well except that the latency was so large, and it seemed it only showed a single frame for evvery minute, its very lag. Will it work with Osmo Pocket with a dedicated WIFI module?
A couple questions Steve.
1.) If I have two drones wouldn't they both have the same ip address? That's not a problem right?
2.) If I need to change battery on the drone what happens if it's only one camera in the obs stream? Will the stream just lose the drone camera temporarily and resume once the battery is changed?
@@Steve_Does_Stuff Thanks for the quick reply. I thought the ip address was based on the computer, not the phone. I was curious if the spark stream could be integrated into an obs stream as an aerial camera angle instead of being the heart of the stream. If so then it would just be one of many camera inputs in obs.

I am using Mini Mavic and there is slightly different DJI fly app and there is no "Live Broadcast Platfrom select menu" so I am not able to transmit the video to the RTMP server.
Any guidelines that can help me, please?

vlc keeps reject it.....Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'rtmp://ip:1935'. Check the log for details.
I tried the step but something wrong with the mona server it doesn't connect with my Mavic 2 Pro
i am trying to stream from my DJI drone to a server using UDP. right now i get the capture into the OBS from the capture device of the drone. do i need to be running the mona server for me to share that RTMP feed to other users? what is the best way to share that video without causing major lag and bandwidth issues?
It seems to need both OpenSSL and luaJIT, which are major pains. Source code only.

I tried to fill in the rtmp on my drone app (DJI Fly) there is an rtmp option on there now. But it's telling me the rtmp is unvalid. But everything is right. Can't fix it

So you can only live stream RTMP while at home. Can’t really live stream anywhere else like this (unless you have a mobile WiFi unit)
