I hated to give mine up. But I moved and had no room to store it. I drove mine thousands of miles on the street across the country. I put a 17 tooth sprocket on the front and it would top out at 77mph. The sprocket is a part number from a different model. I had a second one as a parts bike. That came in handy. Anyhow my brother had purchased this cycle new in 1978 and I purchased it from him after owning several earlier models throughout the years. I also carried the motorcycle with me on the back of a semi tractor trailer as I worked around the country. This enabled me to take it down on my breaks and drive it around. So my DT-400 has been ridden around Brownsville TX, around the White House, Niagra Falls, Myrtle Beach, Breezewood PA, Palm Springs CA, Oregon (cant remember the city) and dozens of other cities in just about every state. I still have photos of it on the semi. It was a company owned truck and against company rules but I got away with it for 5 years and then I had the transmission go out of the cycle and I got tired of trying to conceal the cycle while it was on the truck. So I finally quit that. What a memory. LOL
I've got the exact same bike my dad bought new in 78 . I always carry a small 1/4 socket for the B8ES NGK plug/ carry a spare plug after being stranded 1 time in the 80s. swap if it gets fouled. kick a few with no plug in to clear out the cylender if flooded as well. plug back and change choke / no choke it will start... eventually. it's a first kick....or a ton of kicks. shut it off properly and good for 3 months for mine. 1 kick after that it starts 99% . 1 thing different and it can get tiresome. fuel off everyone, everytime! It's my favorite bike of all time, rode it today. I still remember wheelies through intersections with my dad as a youth! the best! sadly I'm not my 12yo weight for this bike and performance.... well isn't the same despite a full restoration. the engine sounds are enough.

You maybe forget to turn the choke off
It would start and run better if you got rid of that wicked piston slap with a top end rebuild. Save you a BIG headache later!
