    In 2019 I found a gallon glass jar filled to the rim with $20 gold coins! Then the alarm went off and I had to wake-up and went to work. :-(

    Hi Tony, I do it the same way, but for the rinse I picked up a bowl strianer at the thift store and took a 1/4 inch drill bit to ream the holes big anough for the rocks to get through. Makes the separation of the coins from dirt and gravel really easy. Thanks for the video. HH

    Great video, very helpful..I detect in Oz, I probably got about AUD$500 dollars last year. I just take them straight to the bank as they are and put them in the coin deposit machine.
    Keep on swingin'

    just came across this. Stay away from coinstar. Your bank should have no problem taking your coins. But...if you don't go through your coins and check them out you might be losing out big time. Buy a $10 scale to weigh your individual coins. A 1983 Lincoln penny that weighs 3.1 grams is worth up to $15,000 due to a higher copper content. Most weigh between 2.7 and 2.8 grams.
    Another thing is to just look at them. If they've been minted off center or double struck those are worth some money. And it happens more than you would think. In my change I got back from the store I found a 1969 D penny that's worth $100 because of an error. And I also got a 1993 penny that's off center and worth probably $10.
    There are plenty of them out there and you sure can offset your costs just by taking a few extra minutes with your finds.

    I bought a detector around the year of 2011 when I retired from work. It cost me like $900.00. After about 6 months of that year I found like $417.00 the next year I found like
    $ 357.00 . It took about 3 years by the time it paid for my detector. I had some good years where I made like $ 500.00 to $700.00 dollars a year. So I save my detecting money every year and after about 8 years of detecting I now have a little over $8,000.00 dollars. I do try to go detecting 4 to 5 times a week in the summer time also started to do a little bet of detecting in the winter time if the weather is not too cold out. I don't find much in the winter but it helps a bet before the month of May to November which is my metal detecting months that I try to do most of my detecting. That detecting money is what I use for buying things. I just used a little of it to buy a new fisher f75 since my old detector is starting to fall apart. I clean my coins about every 2 years & cash them in at the bank for paper money. Some of my really bad coins I will clean them buy useing a sos pad. Some of the coins that are not too dirty I will put them in a plastic container and fill it up with dish soap & some easy off oven cleaner then I will shake the container for about half an hour by hand. then I will dump them out in my sink and rinse them off & dry them. They come out like new. Since cov 19 has come out I don"t find as much coins on the beach these days. I use to find like $20 to 30 dollars once a week not any more.

    Good video..I used to pour my dirty water down the drain like you..but got worried about too much residue buildup in pipes, so I use a strainer in the bowl, carry it outside and rinse using o/s faucet! I find a lot of coins, was probably averaging 20-30 a week in summer.

    Thanks. I bought a vibratory tumbler and use stainless steel shot with a special “detergent”. Miraculous results. I use it to clean junk silver to make into jewelry. Some guys use them for reloading cartridges. I used a metal detector about 45 years ago. I only did it for a year but I still have that jar of coins, ceramic marbles, tokens, etc. so tempting to clean them but I won’t. I live across the street from a popular park. I bury older foreign coins there to watch the hobbyists find them. They sometimes stand there scratching their heads. 😂

    I have been cleaning clad coins like that since the 80's . It works great as a Tool. but never use it for valuable relics and coins. takes the patina off especially Wheat backs and turns it to a dull orange color. some Buttons is ok but not the two or three piece buttons. I haven't got out much in the past years so i just stick the clad coins in a coinstar to get rid of them. Merry Christmas Thanks AL

    I use stainless steal ball bearing. I only have one tub tumbler. So I put in soap n vinegar as you do. Only difference is I dump this content into a small sifter that you would use for sifting flour. Rinse the content than just shake the strainer and watch how the coins rise to the top. After removing the coins. I let the ball bearings and tub air dry. One Ryan the bearings go back into tub ready for the next leaning.

    Well, I cashed in my clad coins at the eco-ATM for the year I was at $250 give or take a few dollars. With my silver half dollars I found that I did not cash in the face value of all of them would be $120. But they are of course, 90% silver, those are in my collection now. How do you clean silver properly without damaging any of the collector value?

    You refer to the coins as "clad." Does this mean yo have sorted through and removed any pre-1965 silver coins and any other coins that may have numismatic value? I'm new to your channel, and these were my first thoughts when watching this video. Thanks.

    • @5280Adventures
      @5280Adventures  4 года назад +2

      Exactly. These are regular coins found while metal detecting that need cleaning before putting them back into circulation. That is what I mean by CLAD. Thanks for watching and I hope you stick around and find some more videos that you enjoy. Take care Bob .

    Most of Canadian clad is not copper based, so I really pick few of them since I look for silver and copper. I got around 15 bucks US. Most of my Canadian clad is recent surface drops. Looks like there is good 200 bucks in the jar. We have a loonie/toonie advantage though. Most of that clad is washed and will be spend. The nasty ones will go into parking meters and other machines. Sometimes they look at them funny at Starbucks lol.
