    Bought this from Home Depot in Connecticut a couple of weeks ago. Seems to be a few different versions of the 3 burner. HD had the base version, no temp gauge and no side shelf extension on the right side. Online they had this version which is the one I ordered. The biggest difference is that the HD version does not have the lower doors. Just has two large bins that slide in the bottom area. This is replacing a 36 inch Blackstone Culinary version from Lowes that the upper grill area was just rusting out on. The Weber, cost more, but is built like a tank. Weather has not been cooperating much so have only done 1 cook on it. So far , so good. I think Weber has a well thought out design.

      The 30" model with the lower cabinet doors, folding right front side shelf and thermometer is an Ace Hardware exclusive model.

      Blackstones do rust like crazy. You get what you pay for.

      Doug thank you for your interest in the Weber 30" slate. It's dimensions are as follows.
      the unit is 6' long from side table to side table and 2' wide from back of the unit to the front of the control knobs. the the lid open it is 2'6" wide and if you have the folding shelf folded out its 3'7"

    It was my understanding the replacement griddles from Weber aren't the same that come with the Slate. Also I question how wind resistant it is when the sides have 2 big holes.
    I wonder if the inside cabinet has a bunch of gaps/holes (including from the top shelf) where mice can get in. Seems grill makers don't care about this issue.

      The current griddle insert for the Weber Crafted system are NOT treated the way the Slate cooktops are, however the same insert that comes with the SAE-330 model is. The G28 and G36 models are also not currently treated like the Slate tops. However , it is my understanding that eventually that tech will spread throughout the Weber griddle line.
      As for the wind resistance, the holes on the side are relief openings so you can lift the griddle top, they are more on top then they are on the sides. I would like that the Traeger griddle may off slightly great wind protection then the Weber Slate, but the Slate should preform better in the wind then most griddles on the market. I should find out shortly as I plan on firing up a demo unit in the next couple weeks and in South Dakota we always have strong winds, stay tuned for an update.
      The top self is open front and back, while the lower cabinet is fully enclosed though not water, or critter tight for sure. Keeping it clean and treating for rodents and insects away from your cooking space is still your best bet.

      @@kopetskysaceyankton8767 Wow you know your stuff! I wish I could design a grill for me.
      I'd like the tank inside and not on the ends and wish this grill had both side tables fold. The 30" is SUPER wide and perhaps too big for me.
      Can we low cook in there with the lid down? I'm new to griddles.

      @kopetskysaceyankton8767  7 месяцев назад

      For the features you are looking for, maybe check out the 2 burner Loco griddle. Its also a nice piece, well built and the tank goes in the cabinet and both side shelves fold.
      As far as cooking with the lid down, as far as I know all manufactures describe thier lids and "storage only" if you want to cook with a lid they all recommend using a separate dome lid, that being said, I know plenty of people who do cook with the lid down. Just be mindful that some brands paint thier lids and that paint may not be food safe or heat resistant.

    I have read up on the traveler 22 inch and 1st time i heard its the same as the slate series or Rust Resistant Carbon Steel. Can you provide a picture of specs to confirm on this griddle? Do you happen to have the expandable table for the grill?

    • @kopetskysaceyankton8767
      @kopetskysaceyankton8767  7 месяцев назад +1

      Mike, thanks for the call and the question in comments. The literature on the 22 and 17" griddles does not specify that it has the same top technology as the Slate griddle, however in the training from Weber and looking at the tops the top material is indeed the same between the portable 17 and 22" models and the Slate griddles. In addition the crafted accessory griddle that is included with the new SAE-330 Genesis model is also the same top material as the Slate. The accessory crafted griddle sold individually however does NOT yet include the Slate no rust technology (yet). I believe that technology will eventually propagate through out the Weber griddle lineup. As for the expandable table, I have not seen that yet, but will look into it.

      @@kopetskysaceyankton8767 can you compare the slate to the traeger flat rock? Atleast in terms of build quality?

    • @kopetskysaceyankton8767
      @kopetskysaceyankton8767  7 месяцев назад +2

      Overall Id say the build quality of both the Flatrock and the Slate are very good, the Slate assembly is easier. The burners on the Flatrock are larger diameter and I like the baffles in the Flatrock to gives greater temperature variation between the zones. The Flatrock propane tank mount is fiddley. Both have recesses cooktops but the Flatrock recesses even deeper then the Slates does but I think both will perform well in the wind. I like the temperature gauge, folding self, doors for the cabinet and the caddy on the Slate. I like the ignitor and electronic fuel gauge on the Flatrock over the ignitor and lack of gauge on the Weber. From what I have seen I believe both will cook very evenly. I like the treatment of the Slate cooktop itself. If the claims are correct about it not requiring seasoning and not rusting that top will be awesome. In general I don't think you could go wrong with either. I also have not had a chance to cook on the Slate yet, so once I have a chance to cook on I may have more feedback for you. I believe I should have an opportunity to cook on one fairly soon.

      They are available from Ace Hardware’s in the US. It does appear that at least my local warehouse is expecting more Natural Gas inventory anytime now. I’d check with your local Ace or if your anywhere near South Eastern South Dakota give us a call and we can get one in Natural Gas coming for you and give you call when it comes in. We can assemble it for you also.

      I am impressed with it, the griddle top itself appears to be one of the nicest griddle tops currently on the market. It is finished very well. The frame is sold, the enamel finish on the lid should hold up very well, but Weber does state the lid is a storage lid only. The fold out side tables feel solid as well. The model displayed in the video is an Ace Hardware exclusive model and comes with the doors, ride side fold out side table and the included accessory tray and caddy. The accessories are available for purchase on other models.

      This is true, however unlike many other griddles, with this treatment the griddle should not rust with normal use and care.

      The Traeger model is a great option as well. Pros and cons for each. Id say check out both and go with the one that fits your needs better. The most unique feature of the Weber Slate is the Slate technology in the top being less maintenance than most other tops currently on the market.
