Almost jars the first shot! Nice review as always. Thank you. Looking forward to the comparison to the old JPX. Especially the tour version. Also interested in a comparison between JPX 921F and the mp20 HMB.
Great review, would love to see the Forged 921 against ping i210 ! definitely my 2 contenders for my custom fit which is looking like it wont happen until next year. Rotator cuff surgery in mid Dec 2019, rehab postponed for 6 weeks in April thru May after being infected with COVID-19 ! My rehab is still not 100% complete and now have severe Athritis/bursitis in my left hip due to so much inactivity ! NO BUENO ! LOL Been getting hip treatments with my shoulder PT but it doesn't look promising to be fit enough to get full swings in before Nov. What is the word of the replacement iron for the i210 ? Im sure by next spring it will be out ?
Great review, really interesting to see the data between HM and Forged side by side .... still puzzles me how we get fitted for irons just hitting a 7 iron
A Mizuno release isn’t official until your reviews are posted. Looks like you hit the pin on the first shot 🙌. Like the new data presentation even though I liked the details in the old way as well
Very interesting that despite being almost 3mph less in ball speed, 2 mph less clubhead speed and 2 degrees weaker loft it was very close in distance to Hot Metal. Was it the 700 RPM lower spin that kept the distance close?
I have the JPX Hot Metal Pro's, just new this year. I like them a lot. I just got a 7 iron JPX Forged in the mail today, after 14 weeks. Trying it out tomorrow. Price point is a big factor, especially if you're not sure you can hit them damn things! I have forged wedges and love them, that's why I thought I'd try this out.
Hi Greg. Just wondering what you went for in the end?. I’m going for my own fit next week and would be split like you between the forged and HM. Cheers. Peter
@@peterkelly9655 Hi, i actually ended up with neither, after PXG launched the 0211 irons i got fitted for those instead. It is a great fitting experience and all free of charge. The 0211 irons are £119 each so slightly cheaper then the Mizuno. I'm very pleased with them, but i'm sure i would have loved the Mizuno's also.
@@gregcarnall9097 Thanks Gregg, not sure I know of anywhere in Dublin that fits PXG to be honest but I will have a look. In May 2021 I was custom fit for Titleist T-200’s 2019 version. How do you think they compare in terms of forgiveness compared to the JPX 921 Forged ? One thing for certain if I hit my Titleist T 200s off-center they have a loud clacking noise. I was told because the head is not filled with epoxy you get this strange sound. This is why I’m leaning towards the JPX 921 forged but I may have to delay that for another year. These irons are not cheap! Great review Jay
Great review Jay, looking forward to seeing the 919 comparison. Could you compare against the Srixon z785? Or the new ZX7? Would be keen to see how these two Japanese "heavyweights" stack up in a face off
Need to H2H the Forged v HMB - for me they occupy a similar space at very different price points and it would be nice to do a compare/contrast of the 2 models
Mizuno now has a number of clubs that aren't that different other than marketing - MP20 MMC, MP20 HMB, JPX Forged - especially if you make all the 7 irons 32 degrees. I think Marketing / Brand wise, they should move the JPX Tour into the MP Brand as a stronger lofted 'modern' blade and move the MMC into the JPX Brand as the 'techy' blade. So MP would be (MP Blade, JPX 'cavity' Blade, HMB(make it 10% smaller)) and JPX would be (MMC Cavity Tech Blade, Forged, Hot Metal). HM Pro is not needed now with the new Forged
Hi Paul an insightful concept and one that makes complete sense. Unfortunately companies rarely listen to sense as they mainly listen to marketing guru's that sometimes know very little about the subject they advise on.....
Please compare JPX 921 Forged vs Cobra King forged irons. Ready to purchase a NEW set and Imput would be helpful. Currently play Wilson D-7 stiff shaft.
Nice review Jay. How do you find the 921 forged and hot metal clubs blend with the T20 wedges (As in feel between them)? I play the jpx 900 forged and use the Orka rs10 wedges and my orka gap wedge feels so different from my jpx900 forged pw. I’ve spent a lot of time working on my short game and find its really off putting as the feeling is so different between the two clubs.
Hi Jay - switched from Mizuno to Ping as swing got slower but would love to see how the JPX 921 HM compares to the G710. Always admired Mizuno, used MX 921 then MP52, then JPX EZ (horrid) before moving over to Ping GMax (actually good irons although very chunky) before G710 but not sure could play the 921 HM as well. Thanks
@askgolfnut the KBS $ taper claims to cut a load of spin. Would that shaft have impact on the low spin numbers ? I suppose one could weaken the loft a degree or 2 if more spin was needed.
Hi Jason, the lower spin numbers are from the head design and delivery angles specific to the golfer. The shaft has minimal effect on spin creation or removal. Having a very kicky flexible shaft can increase dynamic loft and therefore potential spin, however the more a shaft kicks then it will also lessen angle of attack removing spin loft.... So in reality the shaft has minimal effect on spin numbers 👍 Thanks for the comment and for watching.
@@AskGolfNut good to know! I must say, I'm jealous of your delivery, it must suck to be so neutral and send them down the pipe time and again. You likely don't get to enjoy the full left and right scenery of the Fairway like the rest of us 😅. Great reviews as always, one of the most trusted and thorough guys out there.
Hi Stephen, most if not all Game Improvement clubs are more toe biased for forgiveness, most players irons are middle to slightly heel. Rather than trying to find a club to suit your heel strikes (again it would all depend on how much heel) I would look to try and move that to slightly toe as a general miss as a toe miss is so so much more helpful than heel 👍 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
@@AskGolfNut Thanks for getting back to me that explains why I hit my Wilson V6 irons better than game improvement irons . I am working on slight heel strikes . Thanks Stephen
To me, it seems they've made the Forged into a Hot Metal Pro Forged type club - thus they don't need both. I'm an owner of the 919 Hot Metal Pros, bent 2 degrees weaker 7@32 degrees, and after seeing these reviews, I would now buy the Forged and weaken the set by 1 degree to hit my numbers and increase spin. I'm a 6 handicap and we have very similar numbers. I play PW-6 in HM Pro (47,42,37,32,28) then HMB 5@24 (don't like to see back of club and thinner sole better through turf). Can you see back of Forged 5 iron at address?
Borderline depending on ball position and your own head tilt location at address..... Not a very good answer I know but it does all depend on the golfers setup 👍
First, Thank you for your videos, very helpful and good data. That said, I am an 8-10 handicap. The more i play the the lower I score. I have ben as low as a 6. That said, I plan on playing more and like the Mizuno's. If it helps, I hit my 4 and 5 iron as good, or even better than my seven and 8 iron at times. This all said, would you recommend the Mizuno JPX921 Forged, Tour, or Hot Metal Pros. Your opinion is appreciated. Thanks, Mark
Hi Mark, not the channel owner but I play Mizunos and I’ve hit all 3. The Tours are undoubtedly amazing, BUT unless you’re a serious ball striker you won’t get the most out of them. Forged are fab clubs, easier to hit with the blade length and feel amazing. Wouldn’t play the HMBs given your handicap.
A little more help on off centre his, more ball speed from nominal strikes and well the looks side of things..... That's all down to what you want to look at when using them... Give both a test 👍

Sorry Gary it was a request @askgolfnut. I did hit a few myself with the mmc & 921 forged 7 iron at range the other week, but left just as confused as I did before I hit them. I havent had my full fitting yet, but I'll be going with mmc with hmb 4,5,6 unless the jpx 921 forged impress. Currently gaming mp53 still.
Ok - thanks for clearing that up for me. Yes, I’ve hit the 7 iron mmc a while back and was very impressed. I’m looking for a new set of clubs with just a little more forgiveness in just the long irons, and a little more distance there as well. Might end up with that combo as well.
Yes, I do. I have used Mizuno MP irons for most of my adult life. They continue to be one of the very best players irons.
