I can't recall the details now.....but I think Hall & Oates first got together thru some crazy circumstance. I've heard them tell the story before......maybe in one of those old 'Behind the Music'-type documentaries. Something to do with them each performing separately at some little concert , but gunfire or a riot or something....broke out in the audience? These two met backstage in all the commotion......I think.
Hello. I am old and have Zero Idea how to do Instagram. 1 person that you have Never played was My 1st guitar hero of the mid 1970s. His name was TOMMY BOLIN. He, sadly, passed away in December of 1976 of a drug overdose. I was 17 and his death Crushed My World for quite a While. I would LOVE to see/watch your reaction to "Dreamer" Studio version off of the Album "Teaser". Also, MY Favorite Tommy Bolin song is "Wild Dogs" also off of his 1st solo album, "Teaser". Also, a Great jamm song off of his 2nd solo Album, ''Private Eyes'', is the track titled "Post Toastee". Everyone gets to Show Off a Bit On "Post Toastee". IF you love songs with Great Dynamics from slow, sparse, beautiful and melodic to- Boom, rocking out in a flash, and then BOOM- right back to soft and mellow, then "Dreamer" is for you. I would recommend the regular studio audio of all. Thank you. I Love watching your Reactions!
@Jamel_AKA_Jamal I just came across this video/CD today and just HAVE to share it with you. John Oates singing "Ooh Child" is marvelous and quite appropriate (considering the current pandemic sweeping across the world). Have a marvelous Thanksgiving and THANK YOU for keeping Great Music Alive 💙🎶 Rock On 😎 ruclips.net/video/Uo91yAjMZiQ/видео.html
How awesome is it that Daryl Hall gets to do this, host this at his home with all these great performers all just loving what they’re doing and we get to participate in the groove with them....all for the love of music! ✌🏻♥️
If you do a google image search for Daryl's House, you'll see he actually bought a strip mall in the woods in upstate rural NY and built a studio in it. I'm sure there's a separate video studio (you seldom see cameras in these videos) and also an audio studio. I dunno if he lives there or not though. EDIT: I found a picture: willyoumissme.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/darylshouse_nov_4_2014.jpg At night- bloximages.chicago2.vip.townnews.com/oneidadispatch.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/0/dc/0dc386a9-6665-53c2-8928-13089faa28f6/5b9ab30853ece.image.jpg
@@Spazzmatazzz yes, it’s called Daryl’s House Restaurant and Music Club but they are not open due to covid...it started out at his home in 2007, he’d invite people and feed them good food and play good music 🎼
I'm home for lunch, so I clicked to watch this when it popped up. As soon as your intro music started, my granddaughter came running over, "Jamel!" Hahahaha! We love you, my brother!
As a thirty plus year performing musician, I need to say I love ya and respect ya for how much you get it when it comes to music. I know you're a good man as well. Your feels are perfectly tuned. It brings me joy to watch you. I honestly feel like I have a brother out there. - Blessings J
There is something special about Live From Daryl's House. Every performer he has on just shines. It shows how a well prepared band can play seamlessly with a variety of performers and make it sound like they've been playing with the performer for years. One of the more recent episodes featured Tommy Shaw, from the band, Styx. Tommy can still sing with the best of them!
Most people just dont understand the difficulty of an artist showing up at Darryl's house and their house band just knocking it out of the park! If you watch all the episodes there are a few artists who say how impressed they are with this house band and how they can adapt. They are an extraordinary band!
They rehearse on their own for a week (usually, the guest chooses songs from a list, they make suggestions on what to do and then they have a week to get ready). So, it is improvised, but they are pro's and know where they are going.
i can with a 3 piece, but not with that many players...plus did u hear Kenny say "Let's play it like did in concert"? Maybe they played a one-off, or short tour...no matter, they played tight, despite Daryl thinking it was sloppy...which to me means loose, as in knowing it well enough to play with it a bit.
I can't remember what channel we watched this on. Daryl has all these musicians over and they all sit down to a great meal as well. He's the consummate host and invites us in to join them. So happy to share this with you. You too are a consummate host! Rock on.
It's absolutely amazing that Daryl's voice is still strong!!! Age does affect the voice. Kenny is looking fantastic. Thanks @Jamel_AKA_Jamal! Be blessed, today and always! =)
You're absolutely on point, in a world of fandom I used to get caught up purly in the act of critiquing and as I aged I have more joy now revisiting the classics and just having fun and appreciating the gifts and the thought placed in every note and lyric. Daryl and Kenny still hitting all the right notes. I find myself sometimes in the rabbit hole that is his house and binging on these experiences. I like how diverse his taste is in music collabing with "oldies" acts, modern r&b stars, sometimes pop and rock. Working with the likes of Loggins, Smokey Robinson, CeeLo, Rob Thomas among many many others. Good stuff for real.
I'm a musician and a Sound Guy and I worked the last 5 years setting up and working shows and concerts and one of the shows I did was Hall and Oates.. It was selfishly refreshing because just as most of the seasoned Rock N Roll Artist's they didn't need a billion lights and video screens and Pyro and all the stuff today's not-so musical Musicians always require.. All they needed was the stage, some lights, one large video screen and their instruments.. Raw Musical Talent.. Always liked Hall N Oates and was happy to be a small part of one of their shows..
Pretty much everything Live From Daryl's is musical gold. Anyone and everyone has a good time there. Rob Thomas, CeeLo Green, Smokey Robinson and Patrick Stump among many many others had awesome sets with Daryl
Hi Jamel, love your channels. I've been a pro musician for 40 years and I feel I have to explain. When a musician makes a mistake in the right setting, he/she wants to redeem themselves. So they sharpen their focus and try to deliver. When they do, it inspires the other players. With just the right number of mistakes you create magic! I've been there, it's real. Love and peace. Take care and be well.
Brother if the world would just watch your poets and let the music work its magic everything would be Good. Thanks, Brother Jamel for keeping the music A Live. Keep on Rock-In. We Love You here in N.C.
thank you jamal...it doesnt get any better than this...and bringing back......i love them so much....they are so full of talent love them in concert....
I keep forgetting how many great songs Hall and Oates had. Totally forgot about this one. What's going on with John Oates by the way, if anyone knows? Why isn't he on any of these Daryl's house video?
I was wondering the same thing about John 🌻 and how did I forget about this awesome tune, man I love it, the beat is impossible not to feel it and smile 😁🌻
They were kicking off a tour in February. They played one concert in Hershey PA and then sold out Madison Square Garden and then came coronavirus. I was planning to see them in MD in August but oh well.
When you are lucky enough to be in the company of musicians with lots of road miles on them the first run through is usually the best because they know how to stay in the groove but are less inhibited. It is a really magical experience how humans can sync up to make music.
No matter what my mood is or how my old body feels, when I practice with my band, it just all goes away. Chemistry with other people has such a healing property. Love you my brother!
I'm so glad your getting to listen to all this wonderful music. Cliche as it is, it's true, you don't hear this music made like this anymore. Peace, Peace, and Happy Thanksgiving.
Thank you again, Jamel. Total aside, and not sure if you have seen it (I only found them last week, and they have been around for a decade) Postmodern Jukebox. Their cover of "Creep" is just astounding. Thumb is up, obviously.
Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones said once about live performance's that you get it warts and all. That right there is the best part of a live on the fly performance. Because it' s all good and fun to hear!
This just showed up in my feed. We have NCAA basketball on and I had this on my phone at the max volume. Hubby walks in and puts out his hand & we’re dancing around our den; just like we did at our wedding reception.

Just a couple of points...Daryl has been doing this song for 30+ years...also, they are trained professionals - do not try this at home...
In any key. "Whatever key you want, Ken."
They rehearse on their own for a week (usually, the guest chooses songs from a list, they make suggestions on what to do and then they have a week to get ready). So, it is improvised, but they are pro's and know where they are going.

That’s why concerts were invented.
