  • Episode #47. In this episode, I finally dig the ditches on either side of my driveway, using the Kubota B2650 and the Rhino 5.5-foot box blade. It took several passes and even some additional passes on another day to get it in good shape. While it may need some more adjustment later, it is in pretty good shape right now, and should keep water off the driveway.

    Jeremy I am in the process of making the same exact video. Box blading a swale to get water out of our yard. It’s funny how all these channels are getting into the same projects around the same time of year. I hope this solves your problem

      I know! I think most everyone in North America has had a lot of rain these past few months. Now that I have the ditches dug, we've had very little rain, of course! I think it will help a lot when it does rain but I'm glad to have the chance to finally dry out a little.

    I will save this video. We benefit from you taking the extra time to record this, and I never sat on a tractor. I live in suburban San Antonio, and hope to make a homestead in SE Oklahoma someday near lake Tenkiller. Wado (Cherokee word for 'thank you').

      Thank you for the comment! The area around Tenkiller is really pretty. I haven’t been up that way in a few years but have camped there and traveled there for work. I hope the video helps you someday, and I hope the channel is entertaining in the meantime. Thanks for watching!

      The box blade will definitely do a lot of work for you - it's just a matter of figuring out how to adjust it first. And sometimes that can be trial and error!

    Just subbed....our situation is a little different....10% grade on 450 foot driveway......that keeps washing out not only our driveway, but our neighbor's driveway directly across from us. Water and gas lines on either side of driveway, so can't go very deep.....we are also about to scream, since our fixes seem to get sabotaged by county highway dept. and helpful friends who regrade the driveway and take out the berms put in by hand/back.....arghhg!!!!

    • @JeremyTVOK
      @JeremyTVOK  4 года назад +1

      Yikes! Sounds like quite a challenging situation. I’m guessing the gas lines are several feet deep so they shouldn’t be an issue. And I know my water lines are about 30 inches deep. Maybe you could add a 12- to 18-inch ditch to help keep the majority of the water off the driveway. With the grade you have, I would think getting grass growing quickly would be required so you don’t have your work eroding too badly. With mine, it’s a very gentle slope so if grass didn’t grow in immediately, it wasn’t critical.
      Good luck with whatever route you go! Let me know how it goes; I’d be interested to see! And thanks for watching and subscribing - I truly appreciate it!

    I would be interested to see the dirt scoop and bucket working together. I have thought about picking up a 3pt scoop for just such jobs.

      Hey, it’s good to hear from you again. One of my next videos will show me moving all that dirt and I will include a picture of using the dirt scoop with the video, as I was not able to video that part.
      It was very handy for an older tractor that had no front-end loader, and is also handy to use with the new tractor to help move more dirt. Thanks for watching!

    From watching other videos with use of the box blade and having some experience myself with a 4x4 tractor putting weight in the bucket will help with traction .

    • @JeremyTVOK
      @JeremyTVOK  3 года назад

      It usually does help if there is some weight in the bucket but sometimes it can be a hinderance. The main problem I have with the box blade is digging too deep and bogging the tractor down. I’ve gotten better about it over time but it’s a learning process. My older tractor was heavier, had ag tires, and better at pulling than my Kubota so it handled the box blade a little better.

    You need to have your tractor in low gear when pulling that box blade!

    • @JeremyTVOK
      @JeremyTVOK  5 лет назад +1

      Ha! I DID have it in low! And 4-wheel drive and full throttle! I had to be careful not to get too aggressive with the box blade but sometimes I would drop it too low and it would stall me out.

    • @StubProductions
      @StubProductions 5 лет назад

      If that is true that tractor is pretty weak. Should be able to slip tires easily.

    • @JeremyTVOK
      @JeremyTVOK  5 лет назад +1

      It’s really not weak for its size. That box blade is just a little big for it and I had it pretty deep in the ground at times. If it was a 70-horse tractor and was having the same issue I would agree with you, but for a 26-horse tractor, it works pretty damn hard.

    i think i would have come 1ft more toward the drive on both sides to crown it a bit better and shed water into ditch quicker. nice scrape tho, i learned a bit on you diesel dime!

      Thanks! Yeah, it could have been a little better but overall, I was very pleased with how it turned out. I was mowing it today thinking how happy I was with it for the most part. It has accomplished its goal of keeping water from standing, and keeps it off my driveway. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
