Best for me from this video. 1. Playing and guiding the wash. 2. Pick focal point of painting before I start (I have trouble with this). 3. Spraying with water to loosen the hard-lines. 4. I don’t think you said this but I find if I don’t fight with the paint or process but play with it, interact with it I have fun. Do you have a video on how to stop overworking parts of the painting? Often there is one part of my painting that I really like and then POW! The other parts I overwork and overwork and still overwork until there’s a hole in the paper.

I like to watch and paint tutorials for a couple of paintings or to work on a particular process and then try painting my own photo or something I’ve found on line. Thanks for your videos!

This was enjoyable to watch how your process of painting this. The part that I struggle with is the wet on wet technique and allowing the paint to flow the way it wants to flow. I love doing the dry techniques and details the best with my paintings. I have definitely learned a lot from watching this video. Gorgeous mountains! Thanks for sharing this.

I love watching the dry brush technique on mountains.. the texture it creates looks so realistic. I also enjoyed the beginning wash of the sky, and how you moved the paint around to sculpt the mountain peaks. Excellent job friend!

As we all strive to get better at whatever we are doing let me give some advice: Do not waste time for stressing over and over again that things can be made differently. That is a) self-evident and b) superfluous, as people who feel competent to paint in their own way will not watch videos with tips for beginners anyway. Instead explain even more the technique (moisture of brushes in various moments, departures from wet-in-wet etc.).

On the looks front - It’s very vibrant, but still plays the role of a slightly muted, dark valued yellow (and many yellows naturally just don’t have a good range - aka can’t get as dark as necessary). But more importantly - it rewets very easily and is smooth rather than grainy (as is the case often with Yellow Ochres…). So it’s a bit about what it looks like, and a lot about how it handles! I got a lot from learning how you prep your paper by doing a big wash. I’m kind of a beginner, but have had much success with my guide teacher. When I take a break from this medium, I find that I’ve lost my technique skills. One thing: perhaps you have another lesson where you add more detail to make the inner workings pop out. I’d like to see this painting completed with more of the finer details

quick question- maybe I have asked this before? do you pre stretched the paper? I noticed the paper I am using if I am just using masking tape and a mix of wet and dry areas stretches and bulges in most inconveniet ways at times causing pooling that is not nessarily wanted. It does dry back flat again but until dry it is a little annoying sometimes. I always used to stretch properly first but have been noticing lots of artists including the urban sketchers are just using masking taped edges rather than actually stretching the paper first. SO have been exploring this as an option for me.
Nah, not a great Liron methinks. The obvious streaks in the sky and right side of the peak unsettle me. Always love watching though! Just one question: do you squirt your tube paint into the pans and just let them dry then re awake them with water?
This is actually a great example for a scene that requires VERY minimal drawing skills (: If you take a few measurements - you should be good! (where the mountains meet the edges of the paper, what height the peaks are and in relations to one another, where the big shadows are) And there are plenty more scenes like that. So I’d argue you can do quite a lot 😉🎨
I don't draw well either. If I start to get frustrated because I just can't get it right, I see no shame in tracing. It lets me get to the part I enjoy faster :)

I used to paint mostly ‘water running over rocks’ but need to work on skies. Can’t hide in the woods forever.

or maybe it is just the quality of paper I am using ??? -( its not 100% cotton but a mix )
140 cold press paper by Arches works best for me. Just a suggestion.

So I have no drawing skills, I have to wonder how much I can do with watercolor without drawing. Otherwise I use stamps.
