Health care profession is kind of stressful job indeed. Doctors and nurses need to be recognized for thier effort and dedication on their job. Payment is one of the main causes of unsustainable and shortage of healthcare staffs.

plus all the extras including an extra £6,000 of extra funding for the poorest. plus extra money they can claim if they are single parents, caring for someone or disabled and even travel cost support.
none of this is available to other students, only NHS nursing students. You were a nurse before they even required a degree, so as usual and just like most nurses you don't know how good nurses get it in the current job market.

@@happyjonn9242 You do have to pay tuition fees to study Nursing. This costs around a total of £9,250 a year, totalling £27,7750. Although this is paid via student loans, Nurses are expected to pay this back gradually throughout their career. Much like all other students. Nurses also need to complete 2300 practice hours as part of pre-registration in clinical placements as well as the theory hours. As a minimum, nursing students receive a non-means tested grant of £1000 a year. They can can also access a means-tested bursary, and the amount available varies up to £5000. They do not all get $5000 or all the other benefits you mention. Assistance with travel is to help them attend clinical placements that may be many miles from home. Students of other subjects are also entitled to support as well as Nursing students.
I may not have needed a degree but I do have one, completed post registration which I funded myself! Because nurses are required to continually up date and improve their knowledge. Not only to maintain their registration but also to maintain safe practice.

I'm about to qualify as a nurse. Throughout my journey to becoming a nurse, I've experienced firsthand the dedication and hard work required to meet patients' needs, even with the burden of heavy caseloads on a daily basis. It's frustrating that student nurses receive a mere 0.28p per mile for fuel costs (if it’s further away than the distance you travel to uni from your home/accommodation so if you live close, you get nothing), and the time spent traveling to and from placements can be quite challenging. However, it's a relief that full expenses for parking, bus, and train tickets are provided when receipts are kept. If staying in accommodation, you get partially refunded.cAs students, we don't receive any pay during placements, and we need to complete at least 2300 hours to qualify as nurses.
Nurses handle diverse responsibilities across different fields, be it inpatient, community, or GP settings. The demand for our services continues to rise due to an aging population and an increase in multi-comorbidity.
Working as a nurse in the NHS can be highly stressful. The never-ending paperwork and frequent understaffing put immense pressure on us. I've witnessed scheduled appointments being canceled, leading to a backlog of work and healthcare professionals sacrificing their breaks to meet the demands. To cope, many nurses I know take up bank shifts alongside their 37.5-hour full-time hours to manage financial burdens, as NI and tax are deducted from our monthly salary. Despite all the challenges, my determination to work as a nurse remains strong because I deeply understand how essential our role is. People rely on us, and the opportunity to be there for our patients drives me forward.

Why should education and training programs for the essential front line service roles such as nursing, only be available to higher education students (after college/sixth form)? When the UK economy could benefit from having a nursing educational system available for college students.

I hear you! However , registered nursing has always required a high educational standard even back in the days when its wasn’t a degree! Interesting to note that nursing is actually easier to get into than it used to be! Students nurses knew very quickly what the job entailed and there was always those few that dropped out when they realised how demanding the job was/is . There were a few that even actually failed their state finals! Back then you had 3 attempts and then you were out! You’ve always had to have half a brain to be a competent RN! There are many in the field back then that advocated for the training to undertaken at uni instead of teaching hospitals with nursing colleges. The reason being that all professions go the uni and this would give more leverage in terms of pay and conditions!, What a load of BS that has turned to be! When something not broke don’t try to fix it!

Taking care of others, it is one of our humans' natural abilities. It is inborn and it should be inherited from our parents, who took care of us when we were still children. We are all inspired by them, no matter whether you are nurses or not.
However, then, what tells nurses apart from laymen? As everyone is supposed to know what 'care' is about, especially now we all can access so much information online via RUclips and Wikipedia etc., nurses are still different from the general public.
We know how to care, and how to do it right. We know how to give medications to our patients in a safer way. We know how to take care of patients with different physical and mental illnesses.
We also have a holy commitment to our profession. We stand with the poor and the needy. Just like what a famous Japanese writer, Haruki Murakami, said, between a high, hard wall and a fragile egg, we, nurses, should always stand on the side of the egg.

They've had the applause, now the striking nhs workers need to get back to work, it's not like their on the minimum wage like a lot of carers are who basically do the same job, also they get full pay if they are on the sick, and they are working in nice warm conditions, its like everyone who is striking at the moment, they don't realise how easy they have it.

So because other people have it worse they shouldn't ask for better conditions? Maybe those other workplaces should strike as well.
