    "A political-science professor at one of Idaho’s top universities has sparked outrage after openly calling for women to be kept out of engineering, medical school, and law so that they can instead focus on “feminine goals” such as “homemaking and having children.”
    Boise State University Scott Yenor, who previously served on far-right Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin’s task force investigating right-wing claims of “indoctrination” in schools, made the bizarre declaration during the National Conservatism Conference in Orlando in late October, the Idaho Statesman reports."

      I was once asked by a conservative coworker why a man describing himself as a feminist is a good thing. I said that if being a feminist means you believe a woman should be paid the same as a man for the same job, they should be able to control their bodies and birth control, and have paid maternal leave guaranteed regardless of their job, then I'm alright with that label.

    I had to threaten to sue my university when the engineering teacher wouldn’t allow me to take his class because I was a girl and wouldn’t know how to hook up the equipment. He also told me I’d never be an art director or production designer , perhaps a writer or producer was a possibility . As the only female in his class , and knowing he was pissed and didn’t feel I had a right to be there made the 9 person classroom feel very very small. That teacher was a very short man and clearly had “the complex.” I did excellent at the engineering class and became an art director and production designer in the heavily make, misogynist Hollywood film Industry. I suppose he was just getting me ready for the trials I was to face in Hollywood . My blood pressure still goes up when I think about that little man.

      I had a professor like him years ago and as it turns out was the only woman in the class. It was a broadcast writing class and I poured my heart into doing my assignments, my male classmates didn't. I also did the extra credit he gave us and my assignments were excellent, my classmates even told me so. Grades came and I got the lowest grades in the class, a C, and I NEVER received C's, not in high school, college, or graduate school except in his class. I asked him why and he told me to deal with it. I went to the head of the department and the guy refused to say why. Years later he died and I wanted to expose him but chose to remain silent while people were talking about his death. Recently the radio station he worked at had a discrimination case against a misogynist disk jockey and someone mentioned he worked there and saw nothing wrong with paying women less because "they shouldn't be there anyway, they take jobs away from men". So yeah, these men don't belong as professors at all.

      2. Do you think it's better to go through your entire school career without facing a roadblock or to sometimes face adversity? This professor you had - intentionally or not - gave you a valuable lesson, but it was up to you to learn it. He taught you that there will be people who try to block your path to success. You can let them beat you down, or you can figure out a way to go over or around them to reach your goal. I don’t need a woman in my life to find purpose. I choose to have a woman in my life, as is my right. Women are free to choose as they want, just as much as men are.
    Perhaps somebody should ask the professor what his marital status is, and if he feels like less of a man at the prospect of being single. This entire argument is based on nothing more than patriarchical religiosity. If individual people want to choose to live like that, fine. It should not be a model for the entirety of society, especially if people truly value freedom in this country. What he proposes is not freedom at all, and is one step away from the world depicted in Margaret Atwood‘s novel, “The Handmaid‘s Tale.” This professor certainly demonstrates his superiority complex, and how authoritarian he wants this country to be. Quite simply put, this is extremely un-American, fascist thinking.

Without them in healthcare, we would not have better patient outcomes, especially with inpatient admissions, and we would be in a very stark situation where medical knowledge and access would be limited. Engineering, law, and actually every field benefit from having women bringing a different perspective and consideration to the workplace and how it affects others.

      @RealRyanFlynn Very well articulated!
      Your comment about women having empathy, made me think of a conversation I've had with friends that are women.
      I've been a single parent for 9 years. Many times over, I've had to request due date extensions for paying bills. Earlier this year, it donned on me in all the years of doing so, more often that not, employed women have been more empathetic in granting extensions. Not to say, employed men have never been empathetic or not want to help. In contrast, it was rare for a woman to not be helpful or empathetic. It really seemed like 9 times out of 10,most women were absolutely willing to help.
      I began asking friends that are women, if they have noticed and experienced this too. (No matter their personal, economic or social standpoint) I received an astounding YES. They have noticed the same. I found it quite interesting!
      "Story time" aside, thank you for being an ally. It is very important everyone has these discussions.

    For a party that literally said that mask mandates inside of a retail store during an infectious pandemic was an invasion of their rights, these people love to force their beliefs on what an ideal family would be. They don't take into account the complications of life. Where some fathers may not be fit to be head of a household. Or maybe they died and now it's only the mother? Also, why is it such a bad thing that a woman would want to have a choice as to when or if she gets married? The hypocrisy from these individuals is maddening and in the breath that they point to the constitution, they completely ignore its tenants of: rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Not my original idea, but for added context: our constitution gives you the right to swing your fist wherever you want, but your right to do so ends at the tip of my nose. Once your fist hits the tip of my nose, you have violated my rights. Likewise, you are free to believe whatever you want, but your right to believe something ends at the skin of my body. You cannot force any belief onto anyone.

    Is anyone else tying together the concepts around the economic panic about decreasing birth rates and the accelerating push to end abortion rights in this country? Corporations buy whatever else they want in this country, if there’s the chance that their wealth could be adversely impacted by a shrinking workforce, you think they won’t manipulate that to get what they want? I mean, the alternative to FORCING women to produce children (i.e. future workers) is to increase wages to encourage couples to CHOOSE to have children because it’s economically more feasible. Which option do you think they prefer, human cattle churning out a slave worker class or cutting into their own profits to expand an actual middle class?
    And the right-wingers who love to glom onto conspiracy theories don’t even see this actual conspiracy taking place right in front of their eyes because they’ve been brainwashed by religion to believe all of this is good and righteous.
