  • When it comes to amusement parks and theme parks, Universal Studios Orlando has been a beacon of innovation and thrill. Among its prized attractions is the legendary Jurassic Park Ride, Jurassic Park River Adventure. Jurassic Park River Adventure, a cornerstone of Universal Studios Orlando, had enchanted visitors with its immersive storytelling and thrilling encounters. It was a nostalgic journey through the world of Jurassic Park, capturing the magic and wonder of Steven Spielberg's classic film. However, the allure of new and technologically advanced attractions, like Jurassic World: The Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood, have begun to overshadow the aging ride. Plus, with dinosaur animatronics and effects slowly falling apart or just breaking all together, it seems this Jurassic Park Ride's days are numbered. As Epic Universe Orlando continues to get closer to opening, the Jurassic Park Ride remains to be a stain on the Universal Orlando Resort as a whole. Even with VelociCoaster, a thrilling new addition to Islands of Adventure, offering a fresh dose of adrenaline, it is still imposwsible to overlook the falws with Jurassic Park River Adventure. Universal Studios Orlando, with its ever-evolving landscape, continues to captivate visitors. Yet, the demise of the Jurassic Park Ride marks the end of an era. It's a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between progress and preservation, and the enduring impact of beloved attractions within the world of amusement parks and theme parks. The question is, what comes next?

As a former islands of adventure employee that worked when it opened I can tell you that when this ride first opened it was incredible. Everything looked so realistic. But now it has damaged effects and broken and rotted animatronics. They have got to revamp the ride but they still have to keep the original Jurassic Park theming

I’m on team refurb and redo all the animatronics. As much as I love dinosaurs, Jurassic World is just not going to age as well as Jurassic Park, so I don’t think they need to continue to convert rides to the second franchise. If the original could be restored to its former glory, and maybe with some new effects, it would be worth the investment without being nearly as costly as a full replacement. I also personally don’t mind the lack of continuity between park/world in the land, it’s still the same world. I would rather there not be a specific timeline than to have all attractions themed to the inferior trilogy.

However, the park has been tight lipped about what the renovations would be like if they are going to make it the same attraction but with new technologies or that it’s going to be completely re-themed to Jurassic World like the one in Hollywood.

As I said with Poseidon Entertainment's video on River Adventure, I wouldn't mind if the entirety of Jurassic Park was rethemed to Jurassic World, but I would prefer if Universal chose to completely overhaul River Adventure and the Discovery Center, keeping them both themed to the original trilogy. I feel the island would be a fun novelty if it had a balance between JP and JW on it, keep with the timelessness of the entire park. And with the inevitable Universe profits I'm sure it'll be possible.

When I went to IoA for my first time two years ago, I was so excited to do the Jurassic Park River Adventure. I saw the original JP in theaters six times in 1993, and had heard everyone talk about how cool the ride was. I was so disappointed to ride it and see the animatronics in such disrepair. We went again this year and it was even worse -- the ultrasaur's neck moves at an angle that no living thing ever has, the hadrosaur is gone. And when we rode, the timing was off on the T-Rex. That might not have been a usual thing, maybe the boats got stacked weird. But the boat in front of us went down, and the animatronic never reset itself. We were staring at a T-Rex who was looking down the drop, looking not fearsome but just disappointed that its dinner had gotten away. What a disappointment.
I'd love for them to really put something new and fun in there, especially since Jurassic Park already has the best ride in the park in Velocicoaster. I'd love a clone of the ride in China. Or, close down Kong (without the 3D, it's just a shell of what it was) and combine the plots and make it an extra long Jeep journey with animatronics. You'd go down in ride count, but you could make it the best dark ride in the park.

    • @procrastinatingvaledictorian
      @procrastinatingvaledictorian 19 дней назад

That sucks. I will say that when I went back in 2014, the timing got off & we had a similar issue with the Trex. I commented bc I've never seen anyone mention that b4. But yeah the animatronics were not as bad back then. Sorry that was your experience.

The T-Rex at the end used to be hidden behind an actual waterfall. At the last moment the waterfall "curtain" would split down the middle and the T-Rex would quickly emerge loudly and in your face. Terrified me as a child, yet I loved it so much.
Also, the "bubbles" under the boat at the part where the Hadrosaur knocks you off course were always there, with and without the animatronic. It's there to give some type of haptic feedback that the boat did in fact come in contact with the dino.
One time years ago our boat was out of sync and the effect went off before our boat reached that point and it shot water up like a geyser and completely drenched all of us. It was funny. Slightly startling because it was the first and last time I experienced that... and we did not realize at first what was happening. Probably more in line with how that would actually go with a real Hadrosaur. Lol

The trex doesnt move much, some of the dilophosaurus’ didnt move much/at all. And a few times we had to stay in line pretty long because the ride was delayed due to errors.
80% of the time the beginning doors were either stuck open, or were just super delayed to open.
The box was ALWAYS delayed aswell.
The stegosaur (big one) always looked a bit “rotten” to me, dunno about others tho.

I've been saying it for a bit now, but I guarantee you that their next big move after Epic Universe opens will be a refresh of IoA. They're building the park at an Epic (pun intended) pace, they've been rushing through to finish new projects and rethemes at the USF, but all they've been doing at IoA is closing down attractions with no announced plans for replacing or refurbishing them. The last time they even gave the whole park a literal fresh coat of paint was nearly ten years ago now, after the runaway success of the Wizarding World. Half of Suess Landing is in as bad a state of disrepair as the River Adventure, the Lost Continent is basically just a randomly placed shopping district without any anchor attractions anymore, and those rumors are still swirling about Disney potentially letting those legacy agreements for Marvel and the Simpsons lapse when the contracts run out. If Epic Universe is as much the runaway success as people are expecting, they'll need something to pull people back to the main resort. What better than announcing a bunch of new updates to Islands of Adventure on the heels of all these family-friendly updates to Universal Studios?

Oh man I rode this so many times as a kid when IoA first opened. The T-Rex was scary every time, it felt like she was leaning down to grab a snack from the boat! It's so sad to see the shape this ride is in now.

wife and I were on this ride 6 weeks ago. 3 boats including ours all got stuck before the big drop at TRex. ride shut off, lights came on and it took 10-15 minutes for them to bring these 'planks' to escort us off the boats and through the whole attractions inner building back to main area. still love the ride but an interesting experience to say the least. we all got a free exprass one-time pass

It’s one of my favourite attractions of all time and I’m sad it’s been in such disrepair for so long. My blue sky dream for it right now is to get the same Jurassic World overhaul that Hollywood got, but then for the new Epic Universe Park to get its own retro throwback Jurassic Park land with some brand-new attractions, like maybe a couple of the cancelled attractions that were originally meant to be built like the helicopter safari or a rebranded JP version of the attraction in Beijing but based around the T-Rex breakout scene from the original movie.

What I don't understand, is what are they actually doing when this is closed for WEEKS for maintenance?! I remember going on this for the first time in years, the day it opened from being closed for ages for maintenance, and I was so excited to relive my childhood memories, and the first thing was the doors at the start were just stuck open. I said to a member of staff when I got off "This has literally just reopened from a maintenance closure? What have they actually been doing?" And he said "We ask the same question."
But I'm genuinely curious to know!? Is it just all "saftey only, zero show" things that the eye would never see?

If Universal Creative is smart, they should get rid of all the old Dinosaur animatronics and replace them with modern, stronger Dino animatronics to give Jurassic Park: River Adventure a longer lifespan. I understand that Universal would need to spend more money and manhours to make that a reality, but I think it would reinvigorate interest for the ride. I know there's some Jurassic World themed attractions (such as Raptor Encounter and Velocicoaster) in the Jurassic Park area of IoA, but Universal (in my opinion) should still maintain the Jurassic Park IP for IoA. If they decide to go in that direction, then you don't piss off or alienate the Original JP fans and can still cater to the JW fans.

I'm a huge Jurassic Park fan, always have been, always will be.
Islands of adventure is my favourite park ive ever visited. The two have a huge part in my life. I havent been in this ride in 7+ years, however im going in a few weeks time. It absolutely breaks my heart to see one of my all time favourite rides look like this. Jurassic World really isnt that great, compared to Jurassic Park but i went to universal studios Hollywood last year and i can honestly say the refurbishment of their jurassic park the ride was insane. The animatronics were scarily good, and the ride felt fresh. If this is the future of river adventure i definitely wouldnt be sad, as sad as i am with the state of river adventure today!

You should do a video on the Cat in the Hat it’s in similar disrepair. I did a lot of research on it lately, comparing old and newer videos of it it seems that the cat animatronics you see on the ride today are not the same when it opened, they have different color schemes and some of have slightly different face shapes. I suspect the original animatronics was replaced around 2015-2016 to what you see today. My only guess is the originals broke and the new ones was made by a different company (the original manufacturer AVG animatronics went out of business in the 2000s) or they had spares in storage for exactly this situation. You Definitely should take a look into it.
Now for another ride, Dudley do Right’s Ripsaw Falls, it seems universal been giving it alot of care recently, ALOT of the effects have been fixed and majority of the animatronics are back in working order almost like new. Last time I rode 2 weeks ago almost all effects was working again minus a few. The snidely animatronic on the tracks you see outside now has a ton more movement and his arms work again, the Dudley in the canoe now actually moves again, and much more. So atleast we know they are taking care of some opening day attractions.

I don’t think this ride is beyond repair, and suggesting Universal replace it is a bit much. The real problem is that these companies seem greedy as fuck these days, so they opt for the cheaper options for rides (screens/CGI over animatronics). I don’t know of many other newer or good rides that use animatronics these days, and it’s sad; there’s no love put into them, they’re clearly just there to make as much money as possible. No doubt the animatronics are extremely difficult and expensive to maintain, but come on, Universal, how much have you milked the Jurassic Park franchise? They owe it to the IP to properly maintain this one

If they wanted to play the middle road, retheming the ride to the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World series "Camp Cretaceous"-"Chaos Theory", would be interesting to see.
You could have Darius guiding a group through a dinosaur preserve. Taking a EPCOT approach and being educational about dinosaurs. Keep the "something goes wrong" element (pack of raptors cause a stampede, Rexy disrupts the tour), Rexy is now guarding an actual waterfall!
I think it would be a neat idea, but all the ideas from dedicated fans won't mean anything if Universal refuses to maintain up keep of the original ride or give vast improvements!

I wish they would just retheme skull island as an extension of Jurassic Park/World. Just put “electric fences” up on the sides of the land “it’s an expanded paddock, that’s why it’s outside the gate.” Then use the existing Kong ride as the jeep tour. Then they can either retheme the river adventure to World OR knock it down for the dark ride. Skull Island just seems so out of place.

I used to love that baby stego, she used to do a fun little shimmy when the geyser went off. The raptors were missing limbs and tails last time I rode as well. Just because they're in the dark doesn't mean we can't see how awful they look now. It's a shame, I was an opening day passholder.

The Jurassic World retheme in Hollywood was so shockingly bad. All they had to do was upgrade the animatronics and they would have been okay for a bit longer, but instead they made the ride actively worse by removing the dinosaurs and removing any internal logic (why are we entering the T. rex Kingdom inside a big dark building with a jungle inside?).
Personally I think even at its best, the Jurassic Park rides have always been a little flawed. Provided a brand new ride is still really good, I wouldn't be too disappointed if they scrapped the river system, so long as it's still a Jurassic *Park* ride, not World. Jurassic Park has staying power, it's beloved and iconic. No one will remember Jurassic World in the same way in the decades to come.

For example, he helped with the Stock from 2010 to 2017. And maybe why he purchase on Frontier City, Darien Lake, and Six Flags Qiddiya (even know he drop the stock because of that). Also talk of his "strategy" plan to have different rides (including the RMC Raptors)
