I don't understand the amount of dislikes you get on some of your videos. I mean, if you don't like the guys videos why are you clicking on every one of them and downvoting them lol, just click elsewhere.
I grew up and live alongside the Leeds Liverpool canal, so many great species to be caught in what is a relatively small stretch. I’ve caught large perch, roach, eels crucian carp and pike on there over the years. There are many beautiful parts of the canal, around haigh country park in particular. Perch has always been my favourite fish, it was the first one I caught when fishing with my late dad as a kid, and caught many since . They’re just a beautiful fish . Freshwater bass apparently? Makes sense
@@ryancollins694 little jacks up there from my experience, go down the the green bridge towards new springs. That’s where I grew up, on what we call the top length. Personally I’ve only had little pike there but know a few people that have had big ones there.
Ah the little hump back bridge over the canal I'm guessing? Looks a good stretch, I play golf at haigh hall and I like to wander down to the waters edge when I'm on my own to see if I can see any fish
Lucky You ! In Edinburgh , Union Canal - where I m fishing , slowly getting empty water ... 😢 Two years ago , I we got nice pikes , perches ... and last year some roach . But in winters appeared otters , kormorans ... and the worst : some guys who taken the fishes ... ( not local persons) ... The canal getting full with rubbish ... metal wares ... etc. This year only saw a few pikes ... and small perches . 😢 I we no idea ,where it is going to ... 🙄🤔😟 Some videos on my channel ... about my fishing . Have good luck !
Beautiful perch and that last one was a stonker. I’ve never really seen the point of measuring the length though. 42cm doesn’t mean anything to me, I would prefer to know the weight as that is more accurate. What I mean by that is, you can can have a long thin fish that can weigh less than a short fat one, so therefore is actually a smaller catch. Obviously though, weighing them is more of a faff 😊 Great video as always!
me too i'm old school and don't get this length thing that everyone is using now because you can get a long skinny fish that isn't as heavy as a stubby fish.
As you say it's a faff and he's fishing lite so doesn't want to carry extra gear nor stress the fish unnecessarily. Unless it's a record or close to a PB what does it matter anyway we all know it's about 2lb/1kg give or take.
Another cracking video ...what a fantastic canal that is crystal clear more like a chalk stream spotting the target fish must be great all the canals in the Midlands are like soup with all the boat traffic during summer even 1st light so chucking and hoping is the key round likely areas I've been doing well on various lures for zander perch and pike ....would be nice to see you target a muddy brown canal after a lot of boat traffic so we could pick up some tips 👍

Hello mr. Ginger fisherman. My name is Nez . I've been watching your videos and well done on an amazing Channel, I will be travelling to the UK within the next week and I will be there for 1 month. This will be my first time in England and I will be fishing the Exeter canal. I am all the way from South Africa and I was wondering is there a small chance that we could meet and have a fish together looking forward to hear from you
Best "small" species of fish in EU fresh waters, we have them in great numbers here in hungary. I managed to cach a couple around 1kg and let me tell you they are ferocious. The one i caught with a spinning setup was capable of taking a curly tail grub sized for pike. The other come on a light feeder rig, it nearly towed my rod into the river, i had to jump after it. They are strong, fast and very hungry. 100% recomend going for them, you will have a blast.
This stretch of canal is gorgeous. Near me, the canals are just so busy it's always cloudy because of the boats constantly going up and down. I've caught 1 fish on the canal in about 3 years. Awful.
@@elwooddestiny11blues20 Thanks for the advice. Not to seem ungrateful, but I have tried that several times. I got an ultra light set up specifically for that reason. No luck. The only time I've ever got a fish on my local canal was when I used an absolutely massive lure and got a 6lb pike. Once. I honestly think it's just a bit crap around my area. My local rivers on the other hand are excellent. It's rare for me too blank on a river session. The chin round my area are huge. I've got out oike, barbel, perch, tench, carp and a few more from the rivers.
@@mattandsharks I thought there was no perch in my canal until i scaled right down using 5lb braid and 2lb fluorocarbon leader . 1-2g jigheads with a size 6-12 hook . Proper ultra light . Had perch to 3lb now and plenty of 2s . Canals can be funny though . Hope you crack it or find a water with fish . Nothing more frustrating .
West Midlands/ Birmingham not biteing well yet :D 2 weeks ago cought one Perch 37 cm on 2g jig head / white "ghost" soft lure :D Hopefully will start bitng on canals :D
There's videos on RUclips dedicated to explaining it, it's mostly about controlling the speed of the line leaving the spool, there's normally 2 or 3 gears to stop the spool when you cast. When the spool is too loose or if you cast into the wind is when you achieve the worst bird's-nests, but if you use your thumb to slow down the spool when casting it lets you control the spool until you can dial in the correct break or gear to use for the weight your casting. The lighter weights are harder to cast, but tend to be more fun. Birds nests are normally quite easy to fix taking seconds when you get used to the reel.
Don't know if you can help me haven't fished for over twenty years. carp on commercial lakes. And would love to do a bit of spinning, lure fishing on river and canals, for medium to large pike and big perch. I know nothing about spinning or lure fishing. What weight rod, reel size, braid size and lure size? Ideally looking for that one rod and reel that is most versatile for it all
I'm up Northumberland and we don't get perch or pike in any of our rivers such a shame really we only get grayling brownies and flatties even further up stream they must be hybrids as there in freshwater for sure would you fish for brownies with these or not ?

Casters are better for casting accuracy with short rods on cramped waters and of course you can operate the cast with one hand and control the spool line very easily with thumb. They take more practice to master but very handy when there isn't much room to operate.
