      I’m wondering about actual nutritional content. The veggies we consume these days doesn’t have near the nutrients as veggies used to in the ‘40’s and 50’s. Why? Because of the soil. So if these are grown with frickin chemical “miracle grow or other chemical plant food” I would bet it isn’t as good as growing organically in the soil. However I am wondering if (instead of using the plant food that comes with the kit) if someone added liquid kelp and fish emulsion instead if the results would be healthier? I am very impressed by the size. How warm does the surrounding room need to be?

      @@rocketamadeus3730 Had mine for like 5 years now. Still works like new. Lights, waterpump, everything. I got my aerogardens for around $150. Could you build one yourself for less? Sure, probably for around $75 with good lighting. But for 5 years, this has cost me $30 a year to own (if it lasts 10 years, that's just $15 a year). Still growing like new! DIY people can do what they want. Do I wish this product cost less? Sure. That's why I only bought them when on sale. I have a brand new Bounty model not even taken out of the box! Got it for like $120 years ago. Haven't had to use it because my other 2 gardens in this video just keep going! So, it is a quality product that lasts a long time in my experience. Earthling 1984: Pepper plants are among the most heavily pesticided crops in the world (which is why there is more stomach cancer in countries that consume a lot of peppers). Growing them organically is FAR better for one's health, so I'm happy to see you are utilizing natural methods to take care of the unwanted critters. You can also use a combination of neem & karanja oils to take care of pests, with the added bonus of those oils actually being fertilizers as well. And yes, the dirt you brought in from outdoors was probably the source of the bugs, but they can also come in through windows that are open, even if they have screens on them.
    My hydroponics setup has been free of bugs except for fungus gnats that came in with some of my potted plants. However, I did find one HUGE black and white, furry critter that was decimating my green bean plant...it was eating half of a giant leaf, times 3, every day! Just as I was about to use the neem/karanja/soap spray, even though I couldn't identify what type of critter was eating it so voraciously, I discovered the culprit...
    my cat!
    (I had no idea cats consider green beans and their leaves to be salad)

    Great job, remember to tickle your flowers to self pollinate. The reason for the bugs is from bringing in outside soil.

    • @jeannedinovo5543
      @jeannedinovo5543 3 года назад +4

      Linda Hernandez ...... bake your soil in warm 200 oven for two hours to kill all insects and eggs. Then add diotomaceous earth (food grade is best, white kind for consumption) on Amazon or garden center. Sprinkle on top of finished planted soil, to cover most of the soil. This will trap and desiccate any bug going into or coming out of your soil. DE is good for humans to drink in water daily, for better hair and killing parasites.

    Thank you for this wonderfully thorough video. I have been thinking about buying this for months and I think I am convinced now. By the way, jalapenos turn red when they are ripe. They are usually sold in the immature green state, and in a lot of places the growing season is not long enough to get them to the mature state, but in climates where the season is long enough and warm enough, red is supposed to be the end result. Most folks just assume they are supposed to be green, because that is the only way they ever see them.

      +Taylor nolen One thing. I have the Extra LED. I suggest the EXTRA or ULTRA in LED version. The CFL version is ok, but they usually same price as the LED. Amazon's where I purchased. But the EXTRA and ULTRA have 24 inches of height in the light. The other models have 12 inches or less. So if you want to grow tall plants like peppers and tomatoes, I recommend the 24" versions. Lettuce and some herbs would be fine in the other versions that don't get as high.

That being said, sure R/O water wouldn't be bad to use, especially if your town doesn't have the best tap water. I also have a Bounty, but haven't set it up yet. I got it on an Amazon Lightning Deal for $150 (less than I paid for my current models). I love that it has 45W instead of 30W, but, I find it weird it is no larger, same amount of space for 2 more pods. I don't even use all 7 pods because plants are too close when doing that, so why add more pods with no extra room? I guess can help for sprouting plants for outside in spring, but for indoor growing, I usually use 4 of the pod holes maximum.

      That's what turtles do, they beg for food all the time and if you always feed them when they beg they get fat loll

    Good review, LIKED. I was very disappointed though that your chives didn't grow because THAT was the reason I was considering buying AeroGarden (and I was even wondering if it can grow green onions). You got a real jungle going on in there complete with bird sounds. I was dying to ask you if that was your bedroom until you said "the bugs didn't get into the house", and I was relieved on your behalf. Great work, and thank you!

    Jalapenos turn red over time, they more ripe they get, the more red they get. There are brown varieties, and white ones as well.

      You're welcome! Also, just a tip. I use my own seeds now. The ones they provide have all worked well. They just cost more and you have limited options. I've used these for years and they still are working like new! For sure a good investment. Fun and fast to grow all types of veggie, herbs, etc. inside :)

      @@earthling1984 I've been doing my homework on these Aerogardens because I'm thinking of getting one for my girlfriend for Christmas, but I'm wary about it because I've read tons of reviews saying that they've stopped working either a little less than a year or a little bit after. I'm thinking of buying the bounty model and $200+ is a lot, plus everything else, to throw away if it doesn't last long. It sounds like yours has lasted a long time. I hope hers is the same.

      @@earthling1984 that's great to hear! I will be ordering the bounty model through Amazon. I can't wait to try this, myself. I kinda want to order two of them so we can have greens on one and tomatoes, peppers, etc on the other. Have you ever tried growing fruits such as strawberries?
      Thank you for the awesome video and quick reply.

    I WOULD SUGGEST LOWERING LIGHTS ON LETTUCE UPON SECOND HARVEST AND THIRD HARVEST, JUST SO THAT IT WON'T BOLT OR GET AS BITTER, AS USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN TOO WARM.

    • @pwsmommy
      @pwsmommy 2 года назад

      The lights provide next to no warmth, it shouldn’t effect the lettuce

    Awesome grow vid, really loving the growth on the tomatoes and peppers! By the way, (And I know I’m 4 years late) all jalapeños and Serranos turn red when they’re completely ripe. They taste a little sweeter, and a little spicier, definitely better flavor compared to when they’re green.

      I was looking to see if anyone told him that. I was going to comment if I didn't see the comment. Also the seeds in the RED ones are RIPE to the point that they can be used for SEEDS for planting

    I used the 3 pod garden that looks like a ladaybug.
    I remember that thing growing lettuce like a monster.
    Ive long forgotten about it, and today I went to get it from the
    box and it was broken! it fell off teh high shelf.
    Just checking around, didnt know they even had LED versions!
    you sold me on this model, ty.

      +samljer You will love it! The new Extra / Ultra / Bounty models have a 24" light height (other models only 12") and they also have a new system of moving the water. No longer is it just a bubbler but it has a pump. Really great models. Enjoy your garden!

    thanks for posting this - i just got a mini sprout LED and your video is really helpful in terms or what I plant next. Too bad the ladybugs came in after you removed most of the aphid infestation, late to dinner so to speak!

    By the way, if you want to root stems, try removing the flowers and fruit from it. Those take up a lot of energy that the stem could be using to force itself to grow roots.
