    You will also require another Isolator Switch for on there too, One for the Engine Start Battery and One for the Leisure Battery Bank!

    His face was a picture, opened the box and all he got was a box of sponges. Just like a kid at Christmas expecting PlayStation 5 only to receive a pair of socks.

    One for start battery and one for main bank as close to batteries as possible and yes a second main switch 2 bat sets 2 switches

    • @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt
      @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt  3 года назад

      So the starter batt needs a switch too does it

      @@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt BSS allows a 'combined-switch' by which I suspect they mean a 2-pole switch, a single device with one knob that operates two separate sets of contacts, one set for each battery bank.
      Extract from BSS:
      Battery isolators must be fitted to each battery or bank of batteries.
      Battery isolators must be located as close as practicable to the batteries.
      NOTE ‐ accessibility takes precedence over proximity to the batteries.
      NOTE - if there are separate circuits connected to separate batteries, each of them must have a battery
      isolation switch. A combined‐switch can be used, for example, in two battery system, where one battery is
      used for starting the boat’s engine and the other used for domestic services.

      @@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt yes it does or a combined switch commonly called a 1,2 both off switch. perhaps more important is a fuse as close as poss to main battery terminal on each bank. its a big fuse obviously but protects against probs that might result in fires if a major ground fault occurred

  • @rebbward
    @rebbward 3 года назад +1

    I don't know if this is what hmarc417 was saying but it's worth repeating; the fuse should be as close to the batteries as possible but must not be inside the box, nor above a ventilation (or cable) hole.

  • @Cat-ni6fm
    @Cat-ni6fm 3 года назад +1

    Only thing that should be connected directly to batteries is the bilge pump. Everything else should go to the electric panel. Nav lights on a separate fused circuit with a switch. Same for your tunnel lights and separate from the nav lights. Water pump on another separate fused circuit. Same for your cabin lights.
    Why are you putting the battery isolator/switch outside on the battery box? The location makes it darned difficult to use. Put that inside on or very near the electric panel. That way when you leave or enter the boat that switch is right there and it’s state is very visible.
    The last thing we do when leaving our boat it to always check the electric panel and make sure the batteries are off.

    Just asking...do the batteries have to be tied down? Or the top of the battery box latched? In the states, or at least WI, they have to have a strap over them in case of capsize so they are recoverable.

  • @robg3545
    @robg3545 3 года назад +3

    Nice one. I think Ive seen in other vlogs that people recommend putting a layer of dense foam or rubber under the batteries (or under the battery box itself) to absorb vibration. Given its going to be close to the engine, wonder if this is worth a thought ?

  • @alipuk
    @alipuk 3 года назад +2

    Just an aside you have 4 leisure batteries and one starter battery. You will require an isolator for each bank.

    """OUTSIDE""" DO TO UNEXPECTED SPARKING IF A FUSE SHOULD BLOW, THAT COULD CAUSE FIRE IF IGNITING THE HYDROGEN THAT MAY BE SITTING IN THE BATTERY BOX. AT ANY GIVIN TIME. SINCE HYDROGEN IS A FLAMMABLE GAS. and those are not sealed batteries. just sayin. RESPECTFULLY since i do have solar power powering my house... on land...
