Offcuts and shortcuts, nothing wrong with that James. A job well done. It does bring tears to my eyes watching you using power tools on your lap. The drill was bad enough but the multi tool? 😲
You are admirably managing to do a lot with a little. Kudos. You could glue/attach plastic strips on the underside of the drawer carcasses thereby making pulling and pushing the drawers much easier.... especially once those drawers are weighed down by their content. In reality .... you don’t need to worry about the drawers moving on their own at any time .... simply because a narrow boat never attains any sort of speed or direction change that would cause any undesired movement as is the case in pulling a holiday trailer. Godspeed. Canadian viewer🇨🇦
Nice and love the handles! Although, just worried about whether the cabinet blocks will be able hold the weight of the shelves as they only ever go partially into the wood. You might need to screw the shelves in from the other side, unless you've done so already?
Drawers look fine as they are (which is my way of saying those pine cottage doors look shite😂). Love the fact that you're building a practical home, not a made for youtube showboat. Have you considered using some of the mountain of 5mm off cuts to cover/protect the gas pipe as a home made ducting? - Perhaps only in the potential 'high traffic areas'? Should be able to rip it up in a few minutes on a table saw and remove the risk of damaging the pipe.
James, are you able to secure small, timber-block backstops to the cabinet frame at the back of the drawers to stop them hitting the gas-line etc? That way you might scrounge enough room to have the drawers flush at the front as you previously planned. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and suggest curved handles, someone suggested roping, a soft landing is better than a pointed one! Your vlogs are thoroughly enjoyed by us down here on the River Derwent in Tasmania, Australia.
Morning Jame. Well Feodor Ingvar Kamprad (the Ikea founder) would be proud of you with your draws especially without sagging bottoms lol 😂 The oak fronts I'll look fantastic mate 👍🏻 Shame you didn't measure the middle draw and make it a little shorter 🙄 But this is what's fantastic about this RUclips channel, The narrowboat that James built, it gets made as we go 😂 I made a mistake with my garage doors yesterday as I didn't measure my wood properly 😆 Hopefully it won't be long before we see all your family on the board and expressing their appreciation for all the hard work you've done and being away from your loved ones while you build your boat 🙂 Keep safe until the next fantastic episode cheers Stevie 😎
You need the holes in the bit the screws are going through to be clearance holes like you did on the mast blade otherwise the wood won’t cramp together well.
Hi James. I watch a RUclips channel called Sometimes I wander. It’s about building a motor home not dissimilar to you build your narrow boat. I’ve just watch this morning’s episode and they’ve done a really fantastic window frame surround.......😀 It’s worth a look 👀 for your windows mate 🤔 Take care Stevie 😎
You mentioned the battery box having to be something more substantial with a cover - Honestly that's not the case... I made a 2" deep tray and gunked that to the base, and have a bit of rubber mat as a cover over the top. It passed the BSS and really easy :-)
I don't know who's doing these BSS inspections but they are having a laugh. Extract from clause 3.1.2 of BSS inspection procedures: All batteries must be incapable of movement in excess of 10mm in any direction. NOTE - restraint against vertical movement is generally required. However batteries may be secured by means of a cradle or framework sufficient to ensure batteries remain secure under any condition up to 45˚ to the horizontal. Recesses, cradles or frameworks extending to half the height of the battery meet this allowance
Just wondering are you putting a door on the cabinet under the cook top?? Was thinking about it and thought maybe a sliding door if the space is right. Things are moving along, soon you will be ready to hang curtains.☺️ Have a great day.
I never had a problem routing melamine but the way you did it was prob quicker anyway specially if you are not used to it. The drawers may be quite difficult to open once you get weight inside them. B@Q do full extension drawer runners proper bearing types not the usual 4 wheel thin rubbish. Cheers
Ok, if I understand correctly (probably not), Melamine is sturdier than Pine from the doors? ;-) I was thinking (oh, oh), that you could use the thinner panels but glueing them together with their grain 90 degrees from each other?
Job well done i agree with you they just need to do the job and that they will do once the faceplates goes on them who will ever know to anyone else they will be just galley drawers .. I built a camper van and in such a small place when you can gain space it's always a big help what i did on my drawers is use small rope as the handles turned out great and there never in the way just a thought is all ... Keep up the great work enjoying the videos very much
Hate to break it to you, but unless that is a special purpose glue, it has slim to no chance of sticking to melamine long term. The screws will be the only thing holding the sides together.
I would’ve made the middle drawer a bit shorter, just like the bottom drawer, to protect the gas pipe rather than banging up against it. They will look nice with oak fascia and nice old handles. Time for a sunday roast James, put your feet up and have a rest, you are working too hard 👍🏼
Hi James, Galley work looks fantastic.
Offcuts and shortcuts, nothing wrong with that James. A job well done.

I know - I nipped my knee a few days ago
It's not your knee you should be worried about 🤣
Wow, Carol must ba a good friend. She sends a lot of things to you and good meals. Can't beat that. Jane, Philadelphia

UHMW Tape is a miracle for drawers without glides like this.
"She is looser than an MFI wardrobe" LOL, I always remember that line, looking great mate coming along nicely !!
I’m too young to be dating women whilst MFI traded but I can certainly see how that gag worked !!!
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Now I feel old LOL
I must say, what an adrawable job you’ve done there, James. 😉
Nice
Well done mate. That’s one job that you have been dreading down. Hope you slept well, you look like you need it
Nice and love the handles!
Although, just worried about whether the cabinet blocks will be able hold the weight of the shelves as they only ever go partially into the wood. You might need to screw the shelves in from the other side, unless you've done so already?
Done it - good call 👍🏼
I love your wood work James. It is not refined but practical! And oh boy are you going to do a lot of trimming in the coming year! :D
Great job!

James they look stunning and you can come and sort mine kitchen drawers out
Nice one mate. Could tell it was a ball ache to do. Came out alright in the end.

They look good - and will last you much longer than the IKEA/MFI readymade sort. Will help keep your kitchen tidy too now!
I think you need a decent night's sleep, James. Great job on the drawers--
He needs to stop smoking and eat a healthier diet! : o)
if ever their was an exhausted man here he is

good vid keep up the good work on you canal boat
Who is Carol?????
You need the holes in the bit the screws are going through to be clearance holes like you did on the mast blade otherwise the wood won’t cramp together well.
Exactly what I said to the wife.
Functional James. I suppose you could get some wrap to cover at a later date.
You should marry Carol, while you have the chance!

Really coming along nicely! Drawers will look great with the oak facings x
They would but sadly I don’t have enough oak so I’m using pine. I’m leaving the oak for the fireplace !
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt that's a shame but they will look just as good in pine and the fireplace will look amazing x
I would have used cheap drawer runners. When them drawers are full they will be difficult to use.

James put some bees wax under the drawer to help slide
What happened to the pocket hole jig?

GOLDEN KOOLZ CHEERS
Good job rather better than MFI and you must be older than you look as they went bust years ago. You are certainly getting on with it.
He looks about 50! : o)
James, using off cuts is good, take care and get a good nights sleep.

I thought you'd broken your leg. You spent the whole video sitting down... ;o)
Had a hard day?
Just unscrew the gas pipe clamps and move the line down 30mm. I forget these comments always come too late
