I agree, no need for paint. Maybe varnish or stain to a lighter color depending on the final look of your walls, but right now I would leave it. This was open for everyone to give our opinions on, right?
Looking good James, love that you are re-using all the random bits you have, I have learnt loads watching your videos, I keep looking around the house at things a can make/fix. Thank you for keeping us all entertained and me sane 😂😂 through the last few months.
Afternoon James. Looking good buddy and love that you’ve recycled the wood 😃 I’d sand them down and put a light wash over them keeping the natural wood look 👍🏻
Four storage jars ( square ) are on their way for your tea , coffee and both sugars. I hope you find them useful. Galley is looking great , waiting to see whether varnish or paint finish wins!!!
The medieval dungeon that James built....admire your ingenuity James but please get some paint on those doors! Personally I’d loose the long strap hinges too.
The galley doors look fantastic James, if I could suggest you sand them all down and give them a coat of stain and varnish them that would look so much better than painting them.
Love that you used the hinges and the reclaimed wood. Looks great. I have a friend that used reclaimed wood for there kitchen floor. He put a good finish on it. They just give it a mop. Really easy to clean. It is different sizes and colors, but look charming.
For storage of your glasses.... If the glasses are tapered, you could drill a hole in a board that is big enough for the bottom of the glass to fit through, but not the top - the glasses would sort of hang through the hole, and be quite secure, but still on display and easy to access and remove for use. You might be able to do that with your fancy decanter, too! Looking GREAT, BTW!
I love those hinges! And the cabinets and drawers look great! I’d love to see the wood stripped and then have a cool colored stain on them instead of gobs of paint.
Great camera shots from inside the cupboard James 👍 Like the repurposing idea for the galley but I'm not keen on the finish however it isn't my boat. I would paint them in a strong colour to make a vivid contrast 😊 As for cats, I like them but early mornings are the best part of the day so be grateful 🐱
Nice as they are and its almost a qity you went with a dark coloured counter surface as a white/light coloured one would frame the feature door fronts.
@1;42 you mentioned using the door hinges for the added table , I think thats a great idea . I was going to suggest that last time , it makes sense to use something strong .
The Narrowboat that James built Hi mate ,no boat being built yet mate .Our house buyer pulled out on Tuesday morning so couldn't start our build. The plans and costings have all been signed off so we just need a buyer for house again but we have two viewings tomoz so hopefully in the next few weeks we can start our build at collingwood.
Always impressed with how straight you manage to cut just using a jigsaw - if I tried it would end up looking wonky as f*** ! I reckon the galley looks smart 👍🏻 you can always tone down the contrast my painting the upper walls a slightly darker colour, then you could make some window trims in a similar wood to tie it all in. I think if you white wash it that’s a lot of white ........
It's looking good, I hope there's no issue with the fridge and hinges? Some strips of wood for runners so the drawers pull out straight. Do some trimming of the tongue and groove, cut to size add supports and legs, bingo a table for the dinette. ;-)
A suggestion: what if you put the fold up table on the end of the board you just cut that frames the stove and let it have a fold down leg for support. Don't you think it would look better folding up on that side rather than the wall side?
Love the doors James~ For a bit of Aussie quirkiness have a look at Last Cab to Darwin. It’s got it all! Cheers from us down here DownUnder🙃🙃🙃 where the days are balmy and the younger Neil Young is entertaining the neighbours 😊😊😊😃
Think you should have mounted the screw side of the hinge perpendicular to the long face side. Would have hidden the screws and looked more finished. Also I would have mounted a false moulding strip under the gas hob and shortened the second door and not taken that strip off the outside of the melamine end piece. It looks unfinished now. You can get iron on melamine edging to replace that though. Might have to just smooth it off.
looks good my friend you need more wood for the other cupboards so it all matches then that bit is matching can you do me a favour can you repaint the white its a bit patchy and it be so much nicer pure white bud
Looking good. Are you going to put the black stove paint on the hinges because otherwise they will surely rust. Perhaps try Liberon black bison paste wax as the door finish available from the ever favourite Screwfix.
Can you put a poll up so we can all vote on the cupboard finish? 😄 I would go with a paint finish. A definite colour and not a wash. I guess it all depends on the colour you are painting the interior of the boat?
Although, like you, I'm tending towards a solid paint finish, it's James home, and we ought to leave the choice entirely up to him. Besides, this is the internet, and I wouldn't trust anyone on the internet. ;o)
Hi James, I'm sure you've thought of this but, is your fridge going to sit flush in its space? If not, you're not going to be able to open the cupboard door.
Hi - you seem to have taken to the paracords, let me know your favourite colours/ style and I can make you some more ( also it will give me something to do) and I now know how my cans of beans feel - looking at the back of doors all day
Hi James just started watching your vlogs very interesting r u going to live aboard or is it just holiday for u and family if living r u going to do traveling vlogs
Shit the bed, almost literally. Who'da thunk that James would be scared of a pussy? :oD The fit was better than I expected, and the finish is entirely up to you. _Good enough for now_ is all that matters. All the best, mate. Crack on.
Sand the doors and varnish them leave the rustic look , galley looks lovely 👍

Thank you James for letting us out of the cabinet .
Looks great, something a bit rustic and vintage about it makes it all fit in well. Good going!
Looking well , and even better when you think about the cost. Good job done.
Really coming along. Looking forward to the finished boat on the cut. Fun to watch from afar (USA). 👍
I quite like the look of the doors. Didnt think I was going to but yep, I like it.
Afternoon James. Looking good buddy and love that you’ve recycled the wood 😃 I’d sand them down and put a light wash over them keeping the natural wood look 👍🏻
James the Galley is wonderful and the view from within the cupboard was different.
I like the rustic look mate, spot on that👍👍
The doors like amazing as they are. A further sand, varnish and gloss black paint on the hinges and that will look amazing! Great work James.
Four storage jars ( square ) are on their way for your tea , coffee and both sugars. I hope you find them useful. Galley is looking great , waiting to see whether varnish or paint finish wins!!!
Cabinets looks great
Like that you reused that wood and hardware. Keep on keeping on
The medieval dungeon that James built....admire your ingenuity James but please get some paint on those doors! Personally I’d loose the long strap hinges too.
sanded down and oiled like in bedroom hinges painted black should look nice
Hi James, I love the wood look on the kitchen cabinets, nice job.
James you have done a good job
No matter what every body says .. it yours and you put all your time and effort into your build.. well done James 👏🥃
Looks really good. Think they would look nice a pale blue or light grey.
Great bit of problem solving james
Looks good! If anybody asks, tell them you went with the distressed look. LOL
Laughed out loud about the cat story, nothing worse than an "instant" wake up !! cack is a great word, looking great mate
Cacked myself, oh that's well on the pi?? and can't be bothered 🤭😂 love it James ✊👍
A light gray paint would look good...with black hinges
The galley doors look fantastic James, if I could suggest you sand them all down and give them a coat of stain and varnish them that would look so much better than painting them.

Evening James love those hinges mate came up well.🎥👌👍
Looks great man
I love those hinges! And the cabinets and drawers look great!

Galley is looking very good another option for finish is use a coloured wax which will protect both wood and hinges. Just a thought.
Great camera shots from inside the cupboard James 👍

Good job!!
modern worktop with garden shed doors, what a mess
Nice as they are and its almost a qity you went with a dark coloured counter surface as a white/light coloured one would frame the feature door fronts.
Looking much better the draws don’t look out of place personally I would paint them but your boat your choice
@1;42 you mentioned using the door hinges for the added table , I think thats a great idea . I was going to suggest that last time , it makes sense to use something strong .
"The bit without the moss." . (Very Cask of Amontillado on that camera angle, James.)
Imagine the top edges of the doors and drawers painted black. Just a thought. Cheers
Paint paint paint paint lol! Just a suggestion 😬
At least now everyone knows that you James aren't unhinged!
Fantastic job James .they look good as they are for the time being .plz sort your wifi bud .
I will. Sim on its way.
How did you guys get on ??? Have you swapped a fat cheque for a key and a windlass ?

Looks great I would paint it so it makes it look bigger the dark Close is it in
Cupboards look great as they are - bit of varnish and that's fine 🙂. Please don't paint them 😀 xx
James, I think staining would be your best bet. That way the paint won’t chip over time.
There is something to be said for living with it for a while before deciding on the final look
Worry about finishes later. You need to get this so you can live in it properly. Painting can be done later.
It's looking good, I hope there's no issue with the fridge and hinges?
Some strips of wood for runners so the drawers pull out straight.
Do some trimming of the tongue and groove, cut to size add supports and legs, bingo a table for the dinette. ;-)
I think you need a small gap on the hinge side of the second door as it’s binding slightly, i think they look good.
A suggestion: what if you put the fold up table on the end of the board you just cut that frames the stove and let it have a fold down leg for support. Don't you think it would look better folding up on that side rather than the wall side?

Hi maybe an idea for the reclamed wood, you could make a wall mounted can dispenser to place in the gally under the gunnel?
James. Have you thought about backing the doors with something more slim than the bits on there now?
For glass storage how about a shelf with slots cut for the stem of glasses and then the top used for normal
Two tables, one big one smaller, for the dinette? With a clear epoxy layer on the top to create a smooth surface?
Barn door for the bathroom.
Top Early Rising Young James :-)
good vid
When you get done with the boat you can begin making fitted kitchens, or maybe you already do?
Will James ever use the remote mics? 🤔
💙👊😎
Hi James, I'm sure you've thought of this but, is your fridge going to sit flush in its space? If not, you're not going to be able to open the cupboard door.
Yep it’s ok
Hi - you seem to have taken to the paracords, let me know your favourite colours/ style and I can make you some more ( also it will give me something to do) and I now know how my cans of beans feel - looking at the back of doors all day
Why didn’t you put the hinges on the other side ? What’s going where the washing up bowl is ? A door ?
The fridge is going there - this was the only way of hinging and accessing the cupboard easily
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt ah ok 👍
Nice Nice Very Very Nice. RE---SPECT.
Well it’s different I’ll say that
