I bought mine from Amazon www.amazon.com/dp/B09HJZMQV5?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details and paid $13.99 ea., but it looks like the supplier has changed and the price jumped also. you might have more luck watching Ebay for better deals.
If you use the cold shoe accessory of the DJI MIc and place the receiver in the cold shoe of the cage, you can turn it front or rear, depending on the direction you want it in. The audio interface is also present in the USB charging port of the receiver, so you can just run a USB-C cable from the receiver to the camera. Yes, the cage has that recess, but I still find it more sturdy and secure in the cold shoe.
You are correct, I should have included that option in my video, I use that option once in a while when I want to turn the receiver towards the front of the camera. I appreciate your feedback!
Agree use the cold shoe adapter with the receiver and a 3.5mm to USB-c cable. Also I don't worry so much about overlapping the shutter button, I just use the voice command to stop and start recording. I also have a remote for my Action 2 that is compatible with the action 3. Good video, you bring up excellent points on both cages.
Great informative video, recently bought a DJI Action 3 and was looking at various accessories. This video definitely helped me in choosing a replacement cage to the supplied one. Keep up the good work!
Greg, nice comparison - I selected the Small Rig case and am pleased. I was wondering who makes the magnetic car mount that you showed? Thanks on much.
Great video! I love the quick mount on the DJI's - but being someone who puts it on a motorcycle helmet and rides fast, should I be worried about the mount failing? I just bought the action 4, so I haven't researched too much yet. Again I love how quick it is to go from my helmet to a tripod mount and back again.
I really enjoyed watching your excellent video! Your channel is like a gem! Also, the camera you used for filming the review seems to have a really good image quality. I was truly impressed by its precise focus and high resolution. Could you please let me know which camera you used for filming the RUclips video?

i planning to get the smallrig cage, because the same reason you have. the usb c mount for mic is something i need it to be properly mount. aside that, the pgytech and ulanzi is very similiar to each other. i am using the ulanzi j12 mic and i found a small work around by using a usb C L shape extension. and it works good. but i can't do that if i use pgytech and ulanzi cage, and i have to use the same extension u did, which i want to avoid (same reasons). the L shape extension is more safer and solid compare to the regular extension. after doing some watching around i found out the smallrig cage would be the best option for me. the only downside for smallrig would be the extra 20g weight (maybe a big deal for drones fpv user). but for me, i am only using it for my pov vlog shots, so the smallrig would be my 1st choice, since it doesnt add much weight when i walk around. also, you definitely need to use the dji OA3 mount because they are taller.
Thanks for your feedback, I agree, it is slightly heavier, but the advantages still "outweigh" the added weight in my opinion. Glad I could help you with your research and decision!

The only thing I'd add to your excellent review is using a short USB C to C lead like the ones that come with DJI drones and using that to link up to the receiver mounted on the cold shoe on top of the SmallRig cage, rather than that extension, that looks a bit fraught with danger. Best Dave
thanks for the reply Dave, I agree that is an option I should have included! it also would have shown how the shutter button is exposed whit the reciever in the cold shoe. I appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching!

Thank you for this very informative video. I agree with everything you said, I just purchased the dji Osmo Action 3 and love it. I also noticed how cheap the original cage is and the Small Rigs cage is the only cage I really liked. That being said, I use Small Rigs components as well and was why I was choosing their camera cage. Now that I actually got to see a review of it and comparisons made, the choice is clear.
That was a great review, thanks. I bought the PGYTech and found later that it didn't fit the DJI mic, was so annoyed. Also I have invested in a number of Ulanzi Quick Claw mounts that use 1/4 20 so I can switch different cameras over different tripods, selfie sticks etc. So the Smallrig will be perfect for me. seems like the SmallRig (last cage) cold shoe location covers the mic at the top. So if I were to use the mount, my videos would be muffled somewhat correct?
The cold shoe is over the camera speaker, not the microphone, so it will not muffle your audio input, but you might not hear as well during playback on your camera. hope this helps!

I did not have a Ulanzi cage to review, but I did go over my thoughts about it at the 16:40 mark in my video. Is there a specific question you had about the Ulanzi cage? I can try and answer if I can. thanks for contacting me and watching the video!
I have a smallrig cage and while i have my manfroto tripod shoe i cant acces battery or card slots Its supper annoing that i have to take camera out of cage everytime to acces card to transfer files on computer
I'm pretty sure if you open up the battery access door at the same time as the rear door you don't even have to remove the rubber ring as it will give you enough room to install the camera into the case
Having a metal case than hard plastic? Personally I like the high density plastic that comes with also I brought the 2 years accident replacement warranty which enough not to woory but also Body mounting with the metal case can be anointing specially with Colar which I love & use most of the time Anyway that's Me!!
Attention: The cages are great and have different mounting options and side openings. However, they are not to be used when riding a motorcycle. All metal cages with a metal lever or slider for the side openings will rattle and rattle. From a certain speed you only hear a rattling and rattling. It even gets on my nerves while driving. The sound of the recording can no longer be used.
I have not experienced any rattling noise when recording directly from the camera on either my E-bike or motorcycle. If you do, i recommend trying the DJI Mic or Rode wireless mic rather than the built in mic (or any wireless mic). Thanks for the feedback!
I wouldn’t call it a design flaw, maybe my fat fingers are the flaw 😊. When the camera is mounted on anything besides a selfie stick, you may not be able to just spin the camera or change hands. It’s just an idea that works for me but may not be for everyone. I do appreciate the feedback and taking the time to watch!

So, as you said, the magnetic mounts of osmo action 2 works on the action 3? Nothing to do about the cages but anyways...
Yes they do, regardless of if you use a cage or not. I hope the bonus info was helpful! Thanks for watching!
what is the name of the screw? If possible a link to buy...
@@VishnuNaraine it is a #10-32 x 3/4” socket head cap screw, you can get them at any hardware store
@@greghoerter much appreciated
What about the Ulanzi cage?
I did not have a Ulanzi cage to review, but I did go over my thoughts about it at the 16:40 mark in my video. Is there a specific question you had about the Ulanzi cage? I can try and answer if I can.
thanks for contacting me and watching the video!
I have a smallrig cage and while i have my manfroto tripod shoe i cant acces battery or card slots
Its supper annoing that i have to take camera out of cage everytime to acces card to transfer files on computer
What about the tilta cage?
Sorry, I don’t know anything about it so I cannot offer an opinion, I’d love to hear yours!
Does it fit will action 4. Pls give me an answer
Yes
Interesting,thanks.
Your very welcome, thanks for watching!
I'm pretty sure if you open up the battery access door at the same time as the rear door you don't even have to remove the rubber ring as it will give you enough room to install the camera into the case
The battery access door is on the opposite side of the camera, The lens is on the end with the USB and SD card access.
Yes but when you open the battery access door you have room to move the camera over so the lens clears the other side of the cage?
Having a metal case than hard plastic? Personally I like the high density plastic that comes with also I brought the 2 years accident replacement warranty which enough not to woory but also Body mounting with the metal case can be anointing specially with Colar which I love & use most of the time Anyway that's Me!!
Great Video...
I appreciate that! thanks for watching!
@@greghoerter u welcome…
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for commenting, I have not seen the Tilta cage, let me know what you think of it.
No the rubber rim is not for protection. It is for grip. And good luck replacing them when you do need it for grip during temperature changes.
Anyone here who is still deciding for Smallrig or Ulanzi Cage?
Buy 2 products, use them, make a RUclips video reviewing them -- then return one when done with it 👍
Greg sounds handsome, I like older men.
You can't get your thumb on the release tab so 'its a design flaw?'? Seriously? Then spin the camera around, ffs. I'm out. This is dumb
