For some, the hike is just a challenge to overcome, often as fast as possible. For others, clichéd as it is, it's the journey that matters; the hike itself, the friends, the introspection, and most of all the experience of everything. I fall into the latter and see double zeros as just a stop along the way, not a barrier or cheat or anything like that. Besides, sometimes you need a little self care that they provide, whether that be a little healing of physical or mental wounds, or as a pick-me-up. And Gatlinburg is a place you almost need to do so.
When I hiked in '05 I had 55 zero days, and don't regret a single one. I had two separate one week stretches of zero days to visit friends along the way. Unless you have a hard deadline to be back, do whatever your body/spirit tells you and what your finances allow 👍🏻
There’s no shame in 8 miles for the day. It’s your choice and after the late snows they’re getting in New England this week there’s no rush to get there unless you like to hike in mud and snow . Enjoy your hike.
Smart decision to take it easy and stay safe for the night...with people you know. All these small, smart decisions keep increasing your chances to make it all the way!!! :)
Please could somebody tell me what the guitar music was? I know this so well but can't remember the name or any words yet can hum the rest of the tune, very frustrating.
What are your guys thoughts on double zeros? Just curious

I’m not a thru-hiker, but do as you wish. It’s your hike and experience.

Nothing wrong with it. If you need an extra day of rest or want to do something in town do it.
Double zero in Gatlinburg.... U rock... Noce to put a face to your wonderful Boyfriend... The hike up and out of the Smokies is well remembered...

God i died when i got to cici's piazza in that town. Im not from the south so i never heard of the chain, but all those calories for 15$ was magic.
ICYMI - there is a norovirus outbreak on the trail; make sure you're scrubbing your hands really well. I'd hate for you to get sick!
If I did it again I would get extra snacks at Fontana and push on to Standing Bear
Please could somebody tell me what the guitar music was?

Do you have a messenger or other account to contact you concerning some trail magic?
