You know, even before they became a Mining Kiith, they used to be a religious Kiith. They've come a long way from their days as pilgrims of the Shimmering Path. Hell even after Homeworld I, Kiith Nabaal opposed the construction of the Kuun-Lan, Faal-Korum and Clee-San, having wanted to absorb the Kiith into their own. They barely lost that argument in the Kiith Council. I'm fairly sure they're glad about that now.
Chairless I never pre-order anything but I just broke and did exactly that for the remaster after watching your series..now, to search the entire house for my old Cataclysm discs ..
You certainly ended that dramatically, blasting the Naggarok from point blank with the siege cannon That's now canon for me how Kiith Somtaaw destroyed the beast, thank you
"One ancient monster is as good as another" It cuts deeper when you learn that it was the Bentusi that caused the exile of the Kushans. Sure, the Hiigarans were as bad as the Taiidan empire back then but when you put it into the context of this scene, it resounds so well. Also that 'This is Kiith Somtaaw ++WARSHIP++ Kuun-Lan' rings so well into my ears, I can't help but tear up. Especially when you consider the fact that these are miners that took it upon themselves to end an eldritch cosmic horror.
I love these voice actors! You can clearly hear sadness and regret from the Taidani admiral @33:12. The loss of their world and life, and their regret of having to resort to siding with the beast. I'm pretty sure that this Taidani realizes the horror he is about to help unleash but sees no choice.
The story was by far the most cinematic, well presented of the three homeworld games, in cataclysm. I think the original had better tactics and more gruelling campaign but this installment was just so well put otgether and well structured, the voice acting was relateable and the music on point. Awesome stuff. Shame they lost the orignal code, so we'll never see a remastered edition :(
that point blank shot from the siege cannon in the end.. epic! this is how I have done as well; first sending away my ships, then blast that damned thing. The addition of siege cannon was a really good one in this game: it made the last missions feel grandiose, heroic, marching into battle with a huge, powerful but flawed weapon. mounted on a mining ship.
Props to that voice actor. In an age where performances often felt phoned in for games like this, it sounded like he was truly invested in the character he was playing.
@@GRODON7 He only did a bunch of small parts here and there from IMDB, he was in a couple episodes of The Outer Limits, and a bunch (and I mean like over 50) TV movies and episodes here and there. I think Cataclysm might be his biggest part...

This game is the best homworld game, also in that it feels like you are all the time developing some little new impovements for your fleet. Somehow the other 2 games don´t give that feeling.
Thanks for making this series. HWC has never been my favorite of the whole franchise yet I still enjoyed it a lot and so I enjoyed revisiting that adventure via your videos. :)
i remember this battle it took out all of my fighters, then my frigates, then my destroyers i had some captured ships from earlier missions i kept safe through the entire campaign i dont remember what i had left, but the last of them took down the beast ship
That Mimic deserves all the respect. Going inside the most aware Beast ship of all to get a sample. If that were me assigned that task, I would of thought it was a suicide mission. Edit: ....I completely forgot the Mimics' main source of attack...
+Presidentovich Well that's pretty much what they did for HW1 remastered because they rebuild it completely using HW2 engine so there is still hope...especially if Deserts of Kharak sells well...
Great story and vid. I recommend cutting your intros down to 5 seconds though. It was kind of annoying to sit through 30 seconds at the start of each vid to see a preview of the last vid I already saw.
I could see a high priority base having something like this but it would be more of a one shot... Maaaaaybe two if you are lucky and thats just to buy time for a allied fleet to come in for reinforcements
@@bolothegiantfriendlypillbu4075 their ships were ancient most likely they lost the technology at some point the Nomad moon was also a prototype station not the final product of its kind
+The Glorious GeneralDerpSide The story I heard was that they really wanted to include Cataclysm, but somewhere along the line as the series was bought, sold, and moved between companies, the source code for Cataclysm was literally lost. They don't know where it went and re-writing the whole thing would have been beyond the scope of the remastering effort. There's a Steam Workshop effort to rebuild it, though obviously that's not nearly as exciting as a fully licensed remastering like HW1 and HW2 got.
@@jdtesch86 I'm pretty sure Blizzard claimed ownership over the word "Cataclysm" which resulted in a bunch of legal battles. Now it's called Homeworld Emergence. Still being sold on a site called GOG.com

Well while the code is lost the game has been salvaged thanks to GOG who didn't need the source code to make the game playable on modern computers. So it's had minor tweaks and polish but is basically the same as it was back in 2000. It's called Homeworld: Emergence now to avoid legal trouble with Blizzard
this game would make one hell of a movie
TV series!
"This is the Kiith Somtaaw Warship Kuun-lan!"
I always stand a little taller when I hear that.
i still get goosebumps.
Yes with a masculine voice like this you get motivated ^^
That was always the point to play again and again
@@internetgas3263 Yes! Absolutely. Yes.
I got goosebumps all over my body when I heard that in my first playthrough, lovely memory.
Going from a mining vessel to a battlefleet leading men and women who fight for their lives against an unknown being... God damn this game is good.

Watched the whole series in one sitting. Thanks for letting me re-live one of the greatest gaming experiences I've had.
I had a lot of fun making it. Can't wait to do some videos on the remake of 1 and 2 out this month

helios1276 haha! Good man! And good luck with the search, hope it's easier than mine. Found the disks for cata and 2, the original still evades me.
And now we got homeworld 3 coming out in 2021
I lost my charger and ran around to the neighbors to get one, so could keep watching
You certainly ended that dramatically, blasting the Naggarok from point blank with the siege cannon

That's exactly how it happened for me, when I originally played this game, oh so many years ago.
Ka-me! Ha-me! Haaaaaaaaaaaa!
I don’t think I’ve ever killed it that way; it’s usually either a capital ship pile on or super acolytes. They really tear it up.

Kuun-Lan deserved to call themself warship. And it is not about weaponry - it's about their spirit.

The way the huge Naggarok just starts and stops at crazy speed is just spooky with these old graphics.
I really liked how the attitudes of the other Hiigaran factions/kiiths changes as the game progresses.

Toffee Crisp GOG just released it. It has been renamed to Homeworld: Emergence. It costs $10
Thanks for the info! Shall check it out ;-D
It's so epic that in all of the missions Command login in as "Mining vessel".
But in this mission he is badass as his WARSHIP now :D

The Bentusi are so strong, but so innocent.
That moment when you introduce yourself as "Warship Kuun-Laan" makes the entire campaign worth it.
Thank you for making this. One of the most memorable games I have ever played.

1 Dreadnought beats 2 Destroyers. Dreadnought also get Repulse in the last mission.
It's better to max out on Dreadnoughts than Destroyers.
