That junkyard that I watch on one of episodes, the Ford pickup with the hood welded bring that one alive yea it looks ruff but you can do it faith in you, your videos are new to me i never heard of IronTrap Garage till 3-23-20 I stay up all night watching love it🚘
I'd add a bead that goes around the latch after you cut the area out, maybe in reverse of the other beads, that would not only add strength to the area, but aesthetics as well. Looks amazing from what you started with! I enjoy your channel!
Coming along nicely, all that to look forward to in the Merc coupe, I’m keen to see what you have planned for that one, cheers guy’s, from down under 🇦🇺😎👍👍
Very true! Most of the time when a panel or project doesn’t go how I want it’s because I rushed a part of the project. I’m still learning patience every day!
How many extra steps are you taking to move that camera over the course of a day? Thanks for putting in the time and effort to bring us this content, Matt.
It really worked out nice for you and I like the idea, to do it this way it will surely lessen your workload in the area below it. I think it will make the car look better than the original in that trunk. good quick thinking there Matt.
your videos make my day, my week, since my own shop is small, cramped and cold at the moment. it sucks. but always a delight to see your shop and dream of better days to come ... some day
Really nice work! Thank you for teaching me to be realistic about my wishes for my own rides (65 El Camino) shortcomings, as parts are either not available, I can't afford 'em or don't have service shops in my area to help anymore!
It's coming along nicely. I like the idea that you are finishing the floor and rear body pan before you do the firewall. That's going to be a major project in itself. Can't wait for the next installment.
Looks very professional as always. You got to love the Wiss hand snips. Power tools are great but the hand tools make the job. You even got a carpenters framing square that anyone can find at a flea market or grandpa's garage. If you make the cross members yourself please show that process. Thanks guys.
I like how you show us most of the work you have done and what you don't you tell us what you did, so thanks for that and for the newly opened floor space you can now care a lot more stuff. Great job.
I am enjoying this channel more than I originally thought I would. Thought you guys were crazy attempting to revive this rust bucket, especially after watching it get pulled from the swamp, man that was gut-wrenching! In my youth, I worked as a sheet metal man for a couple of heating and A.C. shops so I always find your metal fabricating vids the most interesting. That said, Matt I am certain you have manly forearms what you need is to either replace or sharpen those snips, (some of the old-timers called them ("compounds"). It always seemed like they would wear out after a couple of years use.
Can't tell you how much I enjoy your channel and the hands on videos. I feel like I know you guys and share a love of all things traditional in hot rod lore.
Too bad I don't have my mom Lois' ashes. She would enjoy a ride in that trunk for her 100th birthday this Dec 16. Her boyfriend at the time Palmer, let her drive his '39 Ford Phaeton for a while back in the day in Berkeley Ca. Thanks for the show, '40 Ford 4 door Paul.
That is some serious dedication gentlemen... nice work....Demonstrates I was a hack back in the day with pop rivets and fiberglass...fixing rusty floor pans...
Did he say dead puppies in the trunk??? Nice video Matt and Mike, all the detail is appreciated. The floor looks really good changing it to a completely flat floor. ~Pat
I think the 39 hot rod will make the perfect car for mike to haul his camera gear to locations so thoughtful of you to optimize that trunk floor for camera gear! Flat and simple floor does work well.
Matt, I go through so much of the same when custom fitting costume pieces. One thing I would suggest is that after all that work, you retrace the final pattern on the cardboard, label it clearly and save it for future ‘39-‘41 builds before welding the original piece into the car. If anything, it will serve as a great starting point for similar projects.
Great work as always man. Following this build closely and trying to learn something. That metal shear is awesome! im still at the aviation snips level.
Hey Bud, I love watching this kind of video. Watching how you make shit is very cool and educational. I wish I could be there and see first hand how you do it. Please keep doing these types of videos for all of us to learn (somewhat) how to do them. Later
The trunk floor looks good as does the other stuff yall have done. Personal choice I would like to see the spare tire holder in rear of the trunk by the latch and lea vfc ed the rest flat. Bu th you do very nice work.
You do such great work. Cant wait to see the next one. Loving the extra trunk space. My power wheelchair will fit perfectly in there with room to spare
I've gone back to binge this series over the holiday weekend. I am really enjoying it..but this episode gave me heartburn as it made the trunk smaller not bigger. Looks cool though. But like you said its a hotrod.
I really like the look of that floor. If there was (or is) a way to leave out the cross brace and have a removable or fold down rear seat, you almost have made yourself a true "sedan delivery" forgotten hot rod shop car. Haul people when the seat is in, haul stuff (or big shop doggies) when the seat is out...
I love the BIG FLAT, ((( BUT ))),,,, I think it would be really cool to make the last foot to the back hinge up and have storage under it for tools, jack etc. Maybe even lockable!! Dare to be different........
I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT VIDEO FOR THIS CAR!! ....THANKS MATT!! ...I'M PUMPED TO SEE THE MERC COME BACK TO LIFE ALSO!! .....I'M WAITING FOR THAT ONE!!
Nice job Matt much better now you can actually use the trunk for something, the way it was before was really crazy if you ask me. A perimeter bead might look good on that pan also?
Great video and good info around gauge thoughts. I was kicking around your idea of the kick down and also see the flat version for room. If you were into extra work you could always put a compartment under the floor? Great video though and great progress. The new trunk floor looks great.
Hey Matt, another great video, I agree with you on a few things or I will say we do them the same way, first is the aviation snips, a good set of right, left & straight are worth the $$$ to buy good ones, I also use 18 ga. material on floor & firewall, great job on the floor.......still hope you pick up the 35 ford truck..build on guys!!!
Why not put a hinged section in, right towards the back so you could use the drop down section for storing your jack & other tools rather than waste the space?
I like the idea of a flat floor pan, but wonder what the space underneath will be used for. Possibly used for the fuel tank? Or a larger front to rear tank that is shallower?
heck if you make the floor strong enough you could haul the scooter in there, well it looks big enough to do that. I like the flat floor better than what ford had originally in the car. keep do the job good and I'll keep watchin.
Like it, might be cool to have a little storage bin in the rear right in front of the latch area. Like an old station wagon had. But I know you’re trying to keep it simple.
I'm not sure about the dead bodies, but you could probably get two or three people in there to sneak into the drive-in movies ( if there's any left near you). That's more nostalgic!
I would have stretched a flange onto the rear corners and maybe along the rear . Also,I find it better to put the details like beads etc into the panel before trimming the edge .
That junkyard that I watch on one of episodes, the Ford pickup with the hood welded bring that one alive yea it looks ruff but you can do it faith in you, your videos are new to me i never heard of IronTrap Garage till 3-23-20 I stay up all night watching love it🚘
I understand your explanation concerning repairing the firewall! Makes sense to me!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing. It means a lot to those of us who have no one to show us all the process.
Thanks for watching!!
That's amazing job on the trunk floor
Looking good. Heaps of space back there.
Yes, I concur. Structural first, cosmetic later. Nice trunk floor. It looks cool, one flat continual floor.
Thanks Howard!
@@IronTrapGarage you're quite welcome.
Thanks for the show, have a 59a and 239 y block in my barn glad I found your channel
Excellent metalworking! There was a really good lesson for you guys that arent confident in panel repair & fitting. 👍
I'd add a bead that goes around the latch after you cut the area out, maybe in reverse of the other beads, that would not only add strength to the area, but aesthetics as well. Looks amazing from what you started with! I enjoy your channel!
More detail is not boring, that's what I want to see. "Here's one I made earlier" is why TV shows are dying.
Coming along nicely, all that to look forward to in the Merc coupe, I’m keen to see what you have planned for that one, cheers guy’s, from down under 🇦🇺😎👍👍

You have a passion that’s very addictive, it makes me want to restore.
I agree. I'm not really into this era of cars, but I watch every video.

Much better use of space in the boot area with the flat panel!

Great information as you work the project. Not that I could do anything like that, but at least I know why you are doing what you are doing

Great Video. Regards from Holland

Hi Matt & Mike looking good 👍🇬🇧
Nice job Matt much better now you can actually use the trunk for something, the way it was before was really crazy if you ask me. A perimeter bead might look good on that pan also?
Good place for form to follow function 👍🏻
Looks real nice, what happens to the storage space plan underneath the floor? I will not mention the firewall again..
When you said they don't show you this stuff on TV is why people that have RUclips channels like yours are better than anything on TV!
Thanks so much for that! We’re trying to show the stuff real car car guys and gals wanna see!

I agree, we never have enough space, deleting that cubby hole space is going to come back to bite you. Great space for tools and spare parts.
Yes a .good spot for a tool box and possibly one for the battery, as I recall the engine compartment looked too tight for the battery
Good work man , I like the way you fabricate you work , looking forward for the next episode
Thanks for watching!
Great job you make great videos. New to channel but really like this 39 build as well as the others. Thanks for sharing.

Super nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like it very much , don't make floor shine . The patina must be the star of the show for this.
It's looking good as always,
Keep up the good work
That trunk is huge. You may consider making the seat back flip up. You could sleep in the car then.
Nice job Matt
Thanks Richard!
cant wait till friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
can you use the extra space under that floor for a bigger gas tank now? love the bead rolling it just gives it a real feel to it.
Good Morning, Guys!
Great job on the trunk floor, how do you keep the panel from warping when you bead roll it without pre-stretching it?
