I feel like the girl isn't good or bad. She's just there living her life. She's so use to everything being bonkers, that's why she isn't scared. You can even see she is actually sorta amused by the monster at the end. She might also be like a spirit or entity.
Derceto in the remake/reimagining is now a mental health sanatorium unlike in the original game where it was a mansion of private residence - though who knows maybe it was originally a private residence in this one that was built over as a sanatorium or the current sanatorium was built on the grounds of a long-destroyed mansion. Grace is likely a resident of the sanatorium with some type of mental illness, like most of Derceto's other residents. If so, then her seeming nonchalant at the creepy happenings may be a somewhat typical reaction for her in that kind of environment. I was wondering why they had a personal post room. A private residence wouldn't have such a thing, but a communal home institution would, so that makes sense for Derceto having a separate postal room/service. All I know is that I hope Pregzt is still a part of the plot, because his history, presence, & role in the original made the plot so darn interesting. Regardless, I'm so excited to see this game remade/reimagined, because it is one of the major founders of the whole survival horror genre.
Not knowing anything about the game I felt like the hallucinations were her imagination… for now. When she said “stay” to the swamp monster after it tried to eat her that made me think it was actually just their dog and she was entertaining herself. This game looks incredible!
It's also an interesting dichotomy of a question though: -Is Grace a sanatorium patient/resident? -Or, is Grace simply a child who lives at Derceto with her live-in parent who is a member of sanatorium staff (like a nurse, doctor, etc). Regardless of Grace's position, she has run-of-the-mill of the place and I kinda love that for her lol.
I feel like the girl is like that since she grew up in that environment. Reminds me of that game where there was that song that drove people mad, but the old lady whom grew up with that song from when she was an infant was immune as her mind was still developing, and it bent and didn't break rather. Very excited for this! :)
Man at 22:09 when Gab says "I 100% hear something" and then stops to listen, a warbler landed in the tree outside my window and started singing. I had headphones on so I thought it was in game at first, I had to pause the video to make sure XD Anyway, I've been a huge fan of the original Alone in the Dark and this new one looks absolutely fantastic! I'm really looking forward to watching Gab play it (and maybe the original too? One can dream)
I actually think that whole "I thought I heard something" then not hearing it when you slow down and actually try to hear it, is an intentional developmental design. Which, since Derceto is a mental sanatorium in this game, having such sound "hallucinations" is darned brilliant. It goes more to show that as Gab said, the sound team (as with all other devs of the game) seem to have put 110% of love into this remake/reimagining and I am HERE for that. AitD is one of my fave OG survival horror games, so seeing it get proper love is just a chef's kiss :p
Edward Carnby is the overarching connection between the three original games and you can play as him in all of them, although you could play as either Carnby or Emily Hartwood in Alone in the Dark. Emily also appears as a character in Alone in the Dark 3. Grace Saunders is a protagonist in a shorter promotional game called Jack in the Dark released before Alone in the Dark 2 (it makes sense that she is the protagonist of the prologue for the remake) and she also appears as a character in Alone in the Dark 2. Derceto Manor is the setting for the first game, while the second game is set in Hell's Kitchen (not the place in NYC but a mansion) and the third in Slaughter Gulch.
I must admit, I'm not 100% sure why they made Edward THE stand-out character and kept him as the franchise mainstay, not that he isn't deserving of course. But, to me, Emily is just as fascinating - even more so because she is a Southern woman in the 1920s, who is not only one of the first playable females of survival horror, but also as a woman of that era, she has to learn how to be tough and brave in a time when she would've been expected to forgo those natures. Talk about a trailblazer. I remember playing the OG, usually picking Emily, because she is a stand-out on her own. But also in the OG, she has such a compelling connection to the events and people involved.
I am still waiting for this new one. The Prologue looks so great and it is spooky too. Thanks for showing us this game Gab🥰🥰That is why I like your channel so much because of all the content you shared up to now. Great job Gab👍👍
This looks really good! Those statues on the floor leading down to the foyer, it's worth remembering that although they might look quite contemporary, this was the same period of history artists like Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and Umberto Boccioni were taking figurative sculptures and doing really unusual things with the human form. It's cool to see the art direction bear those 1910-1920's aesthetic trends in mind, but still manage to make these sculptures seem unwholesome and ghoulish looking.
This was also the time period where great painters such as Mondrian, Picasso, and Dali were starting to build their main footholds of abstract, cubist, and surrealist art. So, in essence, this period was ALL about art pushing the boundaries of reality and exploring dreams, imagination, and possibly even some of the darker recesses of the mind.
I have been a fan of games where reality distorts around the main character since as long as I can remember, filled with impossible architecture and unusual locales found in places they should not exist. While some movies emulate this feeling, I feel like games represent this extremely well, as you are in the shoes of the characters as the logic and reality of the situation starts to peel away. Even now, it looks like the voice actors and designers are doing an amazing job of bringing such a world to life.
I was a massive fan of the original game when it came out in the 90s (i was about 15) and can recall (before the internet) talking with school friends also playing it to try and figure out the puzzles together. I have a very very vivid memories of the original game, and was so excited to hear about a reimagining of it. It was the game that started the survival horror genre. The opening room in the prologue - is perfect - all the items in the room i recall from the original game are referenced in this new version. Can't wait to pick this up in October.
You mentioned the art being very modern - it seems to take inspiration from Giacometti, a Swiss sculptor who had his debut in 1922, so it's actually period accurate! (edited to fix me getting his nationality wrong)
Yeah, it's always like that. Everything we may perceive as "contemporary" was actually already done in the 1920s and 1930s by one of the avant-garde movements.
Gab if you're looking for a nice cosy game to play, I've just played one called Alba. It reminds me of a short hike, but you run around an island taking pictures of birds and trying to save a nature reserve. It's so cute and lots of fun! Also the sound effects are so nice and calming ☺️
I am so stoked for this! New Nightmare was my jam back in the day. I loved how you had to do play throughs as both characters to get the full story. Hopefully this one will do that as well.
I hadn't heard about this remake..I'm very glad you posted this! You're absolutely right - It looks like they're putting so much hard work into it! ..Such a rich atmosphere, so many incredible details, great casting, amazing music and gorgeous environments all meshing together flawlessly! I'm actually really excited about this now - Thank you for letting us know it's on the way!🙂
Gab I would love for you to have this kind of trailer review on RUclips before playing the game on the channel! it makes me so hyped up and look forward excitedly to the game play
Really looking forward to this one. The setting, the ambience, the time period. Animations and physics look amazing, voice acting and writing stellar, gorgeous detailed environments. Now we must wait for the story, gameplay and mechanics. Fingers crossed!
The original Alone in the Dark 1993 was one of the first games I ever loved! The first true survival horror! I remember the creepy noises the 3d polygon monsters made...I'm so excited for this!!
Though when I've played it in more modern times, the OG has now adopted a bit of silliness when compared to modern views of game mechanics haha. I still think about how you have to/should block the attic trapdoor and window, otherwise the goofiest-looking monsters home in on you by entering from one/both of those lol. While the design is a tad silly now, it's really certain things that make me feel the aged goofiness more prevalently, like: -Numerous monsters (bathtub octopus, various ghosts) that have no indication of being unkillable, so you have to die enough from them, get tired, and just avoid them instead. -Getting soft-locked by forgetting to remove the wedge from the barrels in the cellar so you can leave at the end, otherwise you're stuck and can't finish the game, oops. -A lit cigar that's so overpowered that just being in the room with it drains your health and can kill you. -A book that has very little warning that just opening it and reading it will insta-kill you. When I think of those, yeah sometimes the olden days of survival horror could just be silly.
Gab that’s Jodi comer!!!!!!! Playing Emily! If you haven’t seen killing eve she was an INCREDIBLE actress in it as a psychopath international assassin! Give it a watch it seems like something you’d like!!!
This looks like it's going to be awesome! I'm 100% all for you replaying the original. I think that would be the perfect lead-up, just like with Fatal Frame.
Omg the writer for Amnesia and Soma?!! Man, that sounds scary. I've done many horror games and I gotta accept that Soma hit a nerve or something, so unsettling, also Amnesia Rebirth, haven't been able to finish it since I put it down months ago cause it was so anxiety inducing hahaha. If this is gonna be as scary as those games, I think I'll wait for your gamplays and watch that story with a little less stress 🤣
Not had a great day today! Especially for me cat Chase that's got an abscess so she had a visit the vet's!! Drained and full of pain relief and antibiotics, she's not gonna be happy with me cleaning her for days now! But the ray of sunshine is watching this! I love me horror games and love me some Scouse too!! Looking forward for October 😻😻
I hope they knock it out of the park with this game. The original was so many firsts for me and so many others. I was my first horror game, first survival game, first Lovecraft game, its puzzles challenged me in a way unlike any game I played before. It completely changed the way I looked at video games, and it was a big part of what formed my taste in games now. It seems like a lot of respect is being paid to the original without trying to make a direct copy. Very Exciting!
This is such a Gab game! I’m absolutely loving it! Congrats on 1mil btw ❤ you deserve it, I can’t wait to see you continue to grow and evolve as a creator!
I’ve never heard of alone in the dark until now but this little demo was so beautiful, you can really tell how much of a labor of love this is going to be, the sound design really adds to the atmosphere of it(love you doom jazz) I really like sections where you can play as a child in video games, especially horror, not only can the movement get more creative but also because you feel small compared to the world you got put it in. I feel like in horror games your weapons are a sense of comfort and suddenly you get all that stripped away and you have rely on your little legs, tiny crawl spaces, and your wits
you probably haven't heard of it because all the previous games were hot-dookey! check the receptions for each, especially the few disastrous attempts at multiplayer 😬 this game looks like an INSANE improvement!!!
So I've been rewatching your old playlists of the first and second game playthroughs to prepare for this release, so I'm up to date. And imagine my surprise when I heard Aline talk for the first time, with Kate Walker's voice lol. I looked it up, and it's actually the same actress! Sharon Mann.
I'm currently watching your original play through of alone in the dark and then saw this video, the new version looks so good! I'm glad you get to go back to it!
Yeah, I love the inspiration behind the ambiance, the maker sought a specifically Southern gothic feel to its imagery, sound, and design, partially reminiscent of Lovecraftian horror. And best yet, it shows, the gothic-ness is evident and fully-realized, it's almost even its own behind-the-scenes character of the story.
Thanks so much for this sneak peek. I love getting to know the actors and writer. It looks fantastic, and there's only one place to see it played in October, here with you Cheers!!
I'm so glad you love these "past" games LOL! Throughout this video i was thinking, this was the first horror game I played on my own PC - but didn't finish due to my 3D card being ass LOL! And today a german TV did air the "oh so hated" Uwe Boll version, hence this remake had to be in a shelve somewhere! But, jeez am I glad, the makers decided to bring back the original!! With my 2 fave actors!! I'll be getting this game for sure! LOL I might asked this before, but have you played Indigo Prophecy? It's a mind bending game, really worth it!
I just got a Turtle Beach Stealth Pro gaming headset and I am SO excited to play this game with them, the Doom Jazz is going to sound incredible and I love David as an actor, so that sultry voice of his in high-def sound is going to be amazing.
I must’ve gotten that trailer before, because I certainly remember seeing that girl hang her dolls and put the noose around her neck while singing. I’ve forgotten when that happened, but it was so eerie, haunting and intriguing I really wanted to watch a let’s play of it. Now I know when the release is and I have something new to loom forward to :)
This is freaky, I just randomly decided to play the old game boy version of alone in the dark today, after never thinking about it prior… And what do you know, Gab plays a new remake for a game I didn’t know existed until today. FREAKY
i already love love grace and i would like to think it's the same with the lady Ariadne legrant from song of horrors, she was just too young to understand what fear is, but nah I'm so thrilled to know more about her character, I'm so damn excited the game vibes are immaculate !!
Gonna call it now. Jeremy didn’t write the letter. It was the dark man pulling the niece into a trap as it needs her to escape the land/house as the dark man will probably be connected to the family via a curse.
I am so excited to see you play this game. I remember watching you play Alone In The Dark The New Nightmare on PS1 a good while back. You've actually been there for me my whole life now (even though you probably will never officially meet me) which is crazy to think about cause I'm 20 now. Anyways love you Gab I appreciate you Sis. 💜
Its so wild to me that this came before Resident Evil. Like growing up I definitely thought Resident Evil was like the first survival horror! Also was confused why I had subtitles until around 8 mins in😂
i knew nothing about this game and this honestly has me so excited to see it! it looks amazing and the little girl has me intruiged and i love a good puzzle game with a mystery!!!!!!
Kids are usually very aware of the things around them and are pretty dang smart so it's possible she knows what's going on probably better than any of the adults
Gab, you are so well spoken and easy to listen to.

So excited too but now it’s january first 2024 that they release it, but it was previsible because of another game who was supposed to come the same day and that’s what must had happened but they have a pair of month to magnify it ^^ i can’t wait this one ^^
I feel like the girl isn't good or bad. She's just there living her life. She's so use to everything being bonkers, that's why she isn't scared. You can even see she is actually sorta amused by the monster at the end. She might also be like a spirit or entity.
The little girl might possibly be a host for a Lovecraftian parasite, but who knows...
Derceto in the remake/reimagining is now a mental health sanatorium unlike in the original game where it was a mansion of private residence - though who knows maybe it was originally a private residence in this one that was built over as a sanatorium or the current sanatorium was built on the grounds of a long-destroyed mansion.

This game looks incredible!
I think so too, she is an explorer! 😁
Interesting theory! That doesn't explain why she would see a corn field in the bathroom or why the guy just totally disappeared though.
Then I won't post anything spoiler-y from the OG game
It's also an interesting dichotomy of a question though:
-Is Grace a sanatorium patient/resident?
-Or, is Grace simply a child who lives at Derceto with her live-in parent who is a member of sanatorium staff (like a nurse, doctor, etc).
Regardless of Grace's position, she has run-of-the-mill of the place and I kinda love that for her lol.
Doesnt explain why she said "Jeremy what have you done"
I feel like the girl is like that since she grew up in that environment. Reminds me of that game where there was that song that drove people mad, but the old lady whom grew up with that song from when she was an infant was immune as her mind was still developing, and it bent and didn't break rather. Looks like she did play the original! I just searched it up myself :) 7 years ago, but still haha

is it just me or do the characters look like Jodie Comer and David Harbour? (searches the game up) IT _IS_ THEM!? my excitement just shot way way up
Yup
Says soo at the start, you must’ve missed it
@@wafu6058it was actually my reaction when I saw just the thumbnail 😅
Duuuuuude I was so happy seeing Jodie in this 😭
Jodie comer is amazingly beautiful!! ❤❤
I can't wait to watch Gab play the full game 🔥🔥🔥
I love the actors they are so good, Jodie is perfect for this
*Get out of my brain-hole! I LOVE Jodie Comer!!*
I had to do it. 😉👍
+1

I still think about how you have to/should block the attic trapdoor and window, otherwise the goofiest-looking monsters home in on you by entering from one/both of those lol.
While the design is a tad silly now, it's really certain things that make me feel the aged goofiness more prevalently, like:
-Numerous monsters (bathtub octopus, various ghosts) that have no indication of being unkillable, so you have to die enough from them, get tired, and just avoid them instead.
Man, I'm old enough to remember playing the _very_ first Alone in the Dark game on the 3DO console in the mid-1990's.
"It almost feels like she knows a lot more of what's going on". Well, her expression at 26:20 just says "Oh c'mon, not you again".
I was hoping you would play this! I still remember that stream you did of the original all those years ago. Looking forward to the full game!
How could she not play
This is such a Gab game! I’m absolutely loving it! Congrats on 1mil btw ❤ you deserve it, I can’t wait to see you continue to grow and evolve as a creator!
Just started the video and OMG JODIE COMER she’s such a good actress!!!!
4:31 Gabs is 100% me haha *“mmmm pretty lady”~*
I think grace is the original grace and is "Alan Wake-ing" everyone back to the mansion, and this is a secret legacy sequel.
This comes out on my birthday ! Can’t wait !! My birthday is always a hard day so this will give me something to keep my mind busy
I am SOOOO excited!!!! Soma is one of my all time favorites, mostly because of the story! I can’t wait to see what Mikael Hedberg does with this one
So I've been rewatching your old playlists of the first and second game playthroughs to prepare for this release, so I'm up to date. And imagine my surprise when I heard Aline talk for the first time, with Kate Walker's voice lol. I looked it up, and it's actually the same actress! Sharon Mann.
I can't wait for this! The prologue is fantastic and I can't wait to play through as Emily. The music is great too!
Looking forward to you playing the rest of this!
I'm currently watching your original play through of alone in the dark and then saw this video, the new version looks so good! I'm glad you get to go back to it!
Can't wait for the full game. Never seen an Alone in the dark but love spooky classic pieces so right up my alley.

And best yet, it shows, the gothic-ness is evident and fully-realized, it's almost even its own behind-the-scenes character of the story.
OMG SOMA's WRITER???? HERE WE GOOOO!
Haha A Little Night Music (she says it at the end after the radio is turned on) is a reference to Mozart, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
Thanks so much for this sneak peek. I love getting to know the actors and writer. It looks fantastic, and there's only one place to see it played in October, here with you Cheers!!
Gab, when are you going to play the full game? It's a great game. I really enjoyed it!
Huge Twin Peaks vibes from the music. This looks like its going to be awesome!
I'm so glad you love these "past" games LOL! Throughout this video i was thinking, this was the first horror game I played on my own PC - but didn't finish due to my 3D card being ass LOL! I might asked this before, but have you played Indigo Prophecy? It's a mind bending game, really worth it!
The new alone in the dark full game comes out in October!🎃 I can’t wait for you to play it! this is going to be so exciting! thanks for the video gab!
Duuuude this looks so good!! I’ve been avoiding stressful games but I’m deff gonna go check out the demo ty! 🤘💜
Villanelle and Hopper team up? I'm in
I just got a Turtle Beach Stealth Pro gaming headset and I am SO excited to play this game with them, the Doom Jazz is going to sound incredible and I love David as an actor, so that sultry voice of his in high-def sound is going to be amazing.
I'm so excited for this. This is gonna be an amazing October.
just finished watching other youtubers in the Alone in the Dark haunted house experience! can't wait for gab to play the full game
Jodie was in Free Guy. That basically makes her Gab's bff via Sean's involvement. That's how that works, right?
Jodie Comer FTW!!! I cannot WAIT to play her! This is wonderful. Thank you for the vid, Gab!
This is freaky, I just randomly decided to play the old game boy version of alone in the dark today, after never thinking about it prior… And what do you know, Gab plays a new remake for a game I didn’t know existed until today. FREAKY
I haven't seen Jodie Comer since Villanelle and I love David Harbour!! This is exciting!!
DOOM JAZZ!!!
The way the lines are delivered by the young actress is so good. Everything has a little new orleans lilt but not too distracting.
YOOOOOOO THIS GAME LOOKS AMAZING omg thank you for sharing Gab! Absolutely cannot wait to watch you play this!!!!
I came here after the recent upload, trying to stay in order. So much hugs and care for you and Sean Gabs
Love Jodie Comer. Such great expression and skill in her work
I just realized that the papier maché mask Grace is doing is the Carnby from the original game
So excited- I can't wait to see Gab playing it in October!
😂 right up my street great looking game🎉 can't wait to play it I played all the old games was born in 1959 have been gaming since gaming
Lmao, when Gab said "Dude, I 100% hear something" my cat started running around making tons of noise 😂
i already love love grace and i would like to think it's the same with the lady Ariadne legrant from song of horrors, she was just too young to understand what fear is, but nah I'm so thrilled to know more about her character, I'm so damn excited the game vibes are immaculate !!
gab has balls of steel herself considering she chills and hangs out in the room when something is on the other side of the dooe
Gonna call it now. Jeremy didn’t write the letter. It was the dark man pulling the niece into a trap as it needs her to escape the land/house as the dark man will probably be connected to the family via a curse.
I can't wait until this comes out, hopefully more Alone in the Dark games will come out after this one
Thank you for this preview! I'm going to pick this up for sure!
Looks like a super cool game, look forward to watching the play through!
cant wait for gab's eps. of this game, that's gonna be awesome.
This game is astonishingly good at setting the vibe, the same way that new Amnesia game does, but different. I mean obviously, but still i'm spooked
I played and still have the original on Panasonic 3Do. I am too ready to play this, but I will after I watch here 1st. Thx for sharing u rock!
Please play the old games Gabs! I’m new to the series and you are my favorite gamer to watch!(my second favorite is actually Sean 😂)
Its so wild to me that this came before Resident Evil. Like growing up I definitely thought Resident Evil was like the first survival horror!
Also was confused why I had subtitles until around 8 mins in😂
I can't wait for you to play this!
Yesssss I am so excited for this game and so happy you're playing it!!!!!
The dolls remind me of Resident Evil Village in the doll factory/house
VERY Intrigued by this! I feel like its a going to be a similar vibe to the Sherlock game! ❤
Same day is FNAF and the day before my birthday! Super excited!!!!
I'm looking forward to this playthrough from you. And you're right, this one is definitely up your alley.
i knew nothing about this game and this honestly has me so excited to see it! it looks amazing and the little girl has me intruiged and i love a good puzzle game with a mystery!!!!!!
The original survival horror game. I hope it goes well.
I am so excited. I might actually play before watching her eventual playthrough!!
Today was the day I learned that Jodie Comer is actually a scouser - did *not* realise that lol. This looks so awesome. Can't wait for Gab to play it!
I LOVE JODIE COMER!!!! ❤
That's honestly the closest thing to how I would like to be seen. No names, only descriptions.
Great review and break down of the demo... thanks
Honestly haven't been this excited for a spooks magooks games in so so so long. This makes me so fn happy ❤
Gabu Gabu-sama is no stranger to being alone in the dark, watching books and dishes rearrange themselves in dark houses.
Kids are usually very aware of the things around them and are pretty dang smart so it's possible she knows what's going on probably better than any of the adults
I knew I recognized that face! Yay Jodie 😊
Gab, you are so well spoken and easy to listen to.
So excited too but now it’s january first 2024 that they release it, but it was previsible because of another game who was supposed to come the same day and that’s what must had happened but they have a pair of month to magnify it ^^ i can’t wait this one ^^
My reaction went straight to 📈😦😯😱 towards the end. Can't wait for the full game release, excited
I played Alone in the Dark New Nightmare on my Play station when I was 18! [now 39] and still gaming hehe. I Can not wait for this!!! EEKKK
