Church of San Salvador de Soutomerille on the Camino Primitivo | Santiago de Compostela

Located on the Camino Primitivo, about 12 km before the city of Lugo and situated among the ruins of the houses of Arriba and Abaixo, you'll find the church of San Salvador de Soutomerille
Though its year of construction is unknown, the building has been showing up in historical documents since 897
Several inscriptions to be found in its slate flooring suggests existence in some form since the Visigoth period of the 5th to 8th centuries
The most recent reconstruction in the Mozarabic style in 1619 can be seen in the style of the windows and in the nave, presbytery and rectangular apse

Love to know why this church and the surrounding village was abandoned. I had an uneasy feeling about it when l peered inside the broken front door
