Fighting the Ocean Currents for Underwater Treasure! (Beach Metal Detecting)

- Today I'm metal detecting mostly in the water with my Minelab Equinox, to see what coins and treasures I can find. I fought the strong ocean currents to find some beautiful old pre-decimal Australian coins and even some modern treasures - it was an exhausting, yet fun day out at the beach!

About DirtFishMish (Dirt Fish Mish):
Hi, I'm Mish (DirtFishMish, Dirt Fish Mish) - a metal detectorist, treasure hunter and adventurer from Australia!
My videos are about beach metal detecting, land metal detecting and even underwater treasure hunting with my Minelab Equinox and Nokta Makro PulseDive. I also like to explore Australia, so you'll see hiking, camping and outdoor adventures from me when I have opportunities to travel.
It is important to me to keep our environment clean, so you will see me performing cleanups and removing trash from our beautiful beaches, oceans, forests, parks & other landscapes. Развлечения
On filming the digs, I would keep filming, and just edit out the digs that are normal. By normal I mean the one where you scoop and find, or dig for a little while and find. The ones that have interesting back ground noise (children singing) or you scare a fish, or something startles you with the dig (like the current, or see something swim past, or even find an interesting shell) keep in the post.
This is your channel. You get to decide what YOU want to post. People watch your channel (and subscribe) based on their likes and dislikes. Wo really cares what they like or dislike. It is important for you to be you, and show what you want. For me, I like watching how you go about deciding where to look, and what you find. I like that YOUR channel is different than other Metal Detecting channels. Some one once told me that if we were all the same, some of us would not be needed. In the end, you have to go to sleep at night remembering what YOU did or did not do. If you are not satisficed with what went on, then do something differently. I had to learn that myself.
Thank you!! As someone who never really set out to be a RUclipsr I'm forever second-guessing myself, I like hearing about what people are enjoying the most when it comes to my content and while I'll never reshape it to fit someone else's ideal, I do try to listen out for popular requests or feedback and tweak if they suit my tastes also.
I'll keep on adding my own unique spin to things, don't worry. Normal is overrated. ;)
Cheers RKE!!
Mish, I started my chemo, for were I had lung cancer. Pretty weak and sick, your videos lift me up and brighten my day! God Bless, (Glen). WV. U.S.A.
Take care, Glen - glad I can give you some positivity. :)
10:03 - Gandalf: "Throw that RING back to the water, Little Hobbit"! :-))
🤣 I did think of that when I found it!
How could anyone dislike this video?? You're killing it mate!
Water hunting is not for everyone, and that’s okay. On the other side, I’m glad so many people have enjoyed this hunt as the wading hunts are my favourites. 😍
Woahhh that's rings almost big enough to be a bracelet!🙌
Definitely one of the largest I've found!
Looks like a river Mish. Tough recovery day. Great video again. So much fun.
It’s very river-like in its nature, but definitely open to the ocean. Thanks Thomas 😊
Congrats on the nice silver finds. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thankyou and no worries. :)
Better be safe , so we can see you tomorrow 👌👌👌
Safety first, always. Thanks mate. :)
Nice to see you in the water, always the excitement of a possible jewelry drop.
It's nice to see some of the full digs, I like the comment about using your foot as a marker, it's sometimes difficult pinpointing the finds when the surface distorts where the bottom is.
Thanks Steve. It can be very tricky to get the scoop in the right spot, especially if the water is murky - the toe trick helps me with most targets. :)
Love how you show a picture of the coins. Another great video 👍👍👍
Thanks Tracey, this year I’m going to try and add a few more pics to the blurbs as I think it’s handy for those who are unfamiliar with our currencies old and new. Appreciate the comment! 😊
Love the old coins Mish. Good work. 👍
Thanks Angela :)
Hey mish . Happy Australia Day champ . 🇦🇺🇦🇺. keep the silvers coming champ. Brad Dove..👌👌
Cheers Brad! Had a great afternoon down at the beach, no better way to spend the day. I'll keep those silvers coming (hopefully 😂). Thanks mate.
Love that giant titanium ring 👌 awesome work on the 1925 floz too 👍
Cheers Kris! In love with the flozzie, a coin like that beats gold for me any day. :)
Nice Mish! Anytime you can find the old silver is a great time! Congrats! 👍
You got that right! Cheers Ray.
You certainly found the sweet spot. Nice work!
Thanks Dug!
Fantastic Video Mish! Congratulations on your finds! Best of Luck on your next metal detecting adventure!
Cheers Chris! :)
This looks like so much fun and you are cleaning the oceans too!
Water hunting like this is very therapeutic for the mind! Thankyou :)
Great dig in the water hunt and cool finds out that and nice video
Like 127 Full Dig Mish!i prefer, Amazing coins, Amazing fishing lure,my favorite Items🍺🇮🇹💪😁
Grazie! My father has told me that he would like the fishing lures. 😂 I love these old silver coins so much. Thank you :)
@@DirtFishMish the coin from 1938 is Amazing, my father was born in 1938.I as a child went fishing I always looked for fishing lures lost by fishermen.I think that going into the water to make metal detectors you will find more interesting things💪😁🇮🇹
A nice selection of finds, a bit cold for beach detecting here at -1 this morning.
Yep, definitely too cold for detecting! I think the coldest hunt I've ever filmed was a beach hunt and it was around 4ºC, meant that I had a nice empty beach to hunt. 😂
Nice one as usual Mish. The casing looks like the base of a 410 shotgun shell. Cheers.
Cheers mate. 😁
Great hunt fighting the current and it payed off nice ring and a great florin congrats. Look forward to the next video 🍺🍺👍👍
Thanks Scott, I'm so stoked with the Florin! 👍
In Brazil 🇧🇷 Gold abundant ,
👏👏👏👏👏💎⛏️🌹
Lucky you! :)
Great hunt!
Nice little water hunt 2 silvers makes for a good day. Still stuck in lock down here in the UK itching to get out digging
Hang in there mate. I'll keep sharing some warm and sunny Aussie hunts to get you through. Stay safe :)
Always a pleasure watching your vids, nice finds with the silver, can't complain about that.
That deeper water does hold some little treasures, well done Mish.
That ring is off one of my chickens 😂 no it's not, just kiddin, bloody big fingers maybe Andre the Giant lost it.
Cheers
Brad.
Cheers Brad! Just got back from doing a water wedding ring recovery actually, pretty tired now but hopefully I can salvage the footage (I was being smacked around by the swell). It was a massive ring hey. Happy hunting :)
love the beach hunting that is what I do here in Texas , the waves and current make finding our targets hard sometimes , as for the video show the start and end , that way we get to see more finds ,
Cheers Darrell! Yes sometimes it can be so frustrating to line up the target with the scoop underwater, thankfully the beautiful ocean takes away all that frustration and more. 😊
Hello beautiful! Great dig, congratulations on the old silvers. The rings are cool too. Excellent video! Always a pleasure. God bless you! Your friend and fan, Kevin
Thanks Kevin! I love a good water hunt. Cheers mate. 😁
Nice video Mish and congrats on the vintage silver! 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Thanks Jason! 👍
Hello from NJ. I love the style of your videos. I like how you id the find on the left and show the image on the right. I also like the way you show the vdi and take a guess at the find and narrate your thinking. Thanks for another great vid.
Thanks Mike for sharing what you like about my vids, I love getting feedback like this. I try to present them in a format that appeals to both those who care about VDIs, and those who don't detect but are curious about the hobby. A tricky balance :) Happy hunting mate.
Awesome video Mish nice coins to. That current was nuts
It was the strongest I've seen in a while, glad that no-one got swept out that day (it does happen). Cheers Charles. :)
Nice work DirtFish Mish...... awesome video
Thanks so much! 😄
Great video Mish, well done on the Silver great finds, wow can understand having to be careful with the current like that, glad you had a fun day though. :-)
It was a little crazy that day, people don't realise and send their kids in without checking for them - I've had to catch a few kids on body boards in the past as they've started to drift out. Thanks Deb :)
great video, really enjoy watching your digs. keep up the good work cleaning up the ocean.
Thankyou for leaving me a comment, glad you're enjoying them. Always happy to take the rubbish with me. :)
Thanks mish another great vid ,great finds 🤗🤗🤗stay safe out there 👍
Thanks bud!
Wow I know how truly difficult that hunt would have been with the current. You definitely earned your keep. Well done XD
It was so strong that day! Thanks mate.
I don't live near the ocean so that current really surprised me. A great video for a cold damp Missouri morning though.
It surprises a lot of people - this particular tidal current has taken lives in the past, so it is definitely something to be respected. 😊 Thankyou!
Mish the current was so strong it could take a coin right out of the scoop. Silver is always nice especially when there are two. I enjoyed the hunt as always. Stay safe and well
It was the strongest current I've dealt with there in a while, it kicks in really suddenly if you walk into a channel. Safety first always :) Cheers David!
Nice finds! I have the exact same Detect-Ed pouch for water hunting too. ;)
They're great pouches, a few days after filming this I actually received the 2.0 version of it as a present so you'll see me rocking the new one in some future videos. :) Cheers mate!
Risk taker Mish. Take care.
I'm pretty cautious these days. Cheers Nick. :)
I just noticed you are now monetized!!! Congrats!! You may have been for awhile now and I haven’t seen it.
Good hunt and good finds!!
hehe, yes I am! Hopefully this will allow me to keep upgrading my gear, branching into new gear (gee a hookah diving system would be nice) and provide better quality content for everyone. Cheers mate. :)
Rapidly becoming a big fan..Good luck
Cheers Tinx!
Awesome stuff mish 👏👌 and of course the whole thing
Cheers mate!
Good going Mish. Silver from the see. Who is Neptune’s favourite hey 😉 you could almost start up water aerobics detecting classes too. Just as a side income. Well done mate 😁
You can have the old goldfields and I’ll have the sea. 😂 Cheers mate.
Nice 👍
i always watch what the current is doing in a couple of weeks the tide will really low good time to hunt around. The current will be at its strongest as well. Good score as well Mish
I’m always cursed when it comes to the tides - never available when they’re at their best! That’s okay, I get by... but hopefully I’ll catch the next round. 😊 thanks Leigh!
Lovin the silver 😊👍
Thankyou! :D
Really nice video Mish 😎👍💥
Cheers Dave!
that was one hell of a ring! I know plenty of big blokes and even that ring would Male their fingers look small lol.
Yep, one of the largest rings I’ve ever found. No wonder it slipped off. Cheers DK!
Hi Mish, Big congrats on your 2 silvers and I enjoyed watching your vid :) I don't know what you use for a camera but when I watch your movies on my big screen the quality is excellent.
Thanks Darren! I use GoPros typically because they're waterproof, and I film in 1080p (HD) because I also like to watch content on larger screens and am a little fussy about it. 😂 Thanks mate!
Awesome hunt mate 👌😎
Those silvers are great finds, you must have petite hands 😊
I thought you had dug up a golden penny when you held that $1 coin lol.
Nice work sorting through the junk and battling the elements 🍺
Thanks ADZ, you're not the first to say I have petite hands but I typically wear a medium in unisex gloves. Short fingers though, I don't reach the end of my soil digging gloves. 😂
A golden penny, how cool would that be! hehe... cheers mate.
@@DirtFishMish lol, on second thoughts it may just be the gopro playing tricks on me.
a good lure for Trevally in the surf. nice coins pity about the tide. Go at low tide next time for sure.
My father benefits from the lure finds, I’d sooner be swinging the detector than a rod. It’s a win-win arrangement. 😊
@@DirtFishMish Lucky Dad.
Good morning 👍👍👍
Good morning David!
SUPER 👍 😃👍
Thank you! Cheers! :)
Приветик красотка коп как всегда супер!!!
Thank you! :)
there s a lot of junk digging in order to put together a video. it might be boring for some, but the reality is that some of us dig 90% junk. Tough deep digs as well. You can fast fwd through your toughest dig and even some of the junk that fools us all. I like the tips that eminate from vdi, tone and actual find. Good finds, nice silva. Hope there s no salties around where you hunt.
Thanks zed. No salties down my way, plenty of sharks and rays though. Eyes are always open! Thank you so much for the feedback.
Happy Straya Day mate :)
Thanks mate 😊
Congratulations to you Mish on the silver and the ring! We surely need to go back to this spot at a warmer time and get the rest of the silver hiding there, thank you!
Thanks Steve! The weather has improved considerably since filming this. Just need to find the right tides to get back in there :)
Yo Mish, lots of good finds. Love the silver finds. The casing looked like a part of a smaller caliber shotgun casing. Maybe a caliber 410?
I agree def a 410 gauge ✅
Cheers guys, appreciate the ID! I can spot a 12ga, 22cal or .303 pretty easily these days (and occasionally the odd 9mm round!) but the rest always have me stumped. :)
Out in the water seems to be the place to hunt
It's hard work but also peaceful at the same time. I really enjoy getting out there. :)
Excellent hunt, it's not every day you find silver and a ring...
This is true! Either makes for a great day out, but to find both is just awesome. 😊
I want to see the hole dig. God bless.
Thankyou! :)
I like the way you present and edit your videos.
You certainly have a nice spot there, a good variety of old, new and even foreign.
Do you ever dive with the detector? It’s something I’m thinking of doing but I’m not properly equipped, I wouldn’t scuba but enter from the beach on low tide to get to the slightly deeper gutter.
Thanks so much, I appreciate this comment! :)
I am almost to the point of diving with it. I have snorkel hunted with it a couple of times, and I wade with it (like in this video) quite often, anywhere from hip to chest deep. I would like to start hookah diving this year to further progress my ability, then maybe tackle scuba also. So many things to try! Happy hunting. :)
You got a Floren that isn't 1947 ? Wel done Mrs 👍
Hello 👋🏻 hope everyone is well from ya crew 👌
Hope you're well also! Cheers mate.
Just a heads up you need a lot more weight to go down with a Nemo than normal diving gear. Huge congrats on the silver and a cool ring
Good to know, just as well I've detected a tonne of dive weights during my time with the hobby, I've never needed to buy one. 😂
Mish , you go girl , nice silver !
Thank you Wayne!
@@DirtFishMish Mish I prefer the target located with a read out , dig and then the reveal.
Sometimes the target ID will change while digging out the target for what ever reason
( target with a peace of trash ) makes for a better learning video.
@@lewis1141951 thanks for the feedback 😁
@@DirtFishMish Mish there's a little trick that I do with my 800 , check out this video I made.
ruclips.net/video/rm6fGQ3xTx8/видео.html
Pretty sure the bullet casing is a shotgun shell and a two silver coin day is great. Hopefully you can find that heavy target spot during a low tide. That ring is small for me LOL I wear a 16 1/2, wouldn't you like to find a gold ring I lose.LOL
hehe, I've found a lot of large size rings but that one was right up there with my largest! I'll be hitting up that spot again in future, just need to keep watching for the ideal tides. Cheers Steve :)
Great work Mish, the florin made up on silver content for the titanium ring, good find anyway,
would have belonged to a surfing enthusiast , for some reason they always wear titanium lol..
just in case someone reads this
Not all do🤣🤣 I don't want to offended anyone 👍😁
hehe! Looking into it, titanium seems a pretty good choice for a ring. Tough, super light, doesn't corrode and it's affordable. The Florin was one of my favourite finds for last year (filmed in December), man I love a beautiful old coin. Cheers Jim.
Nice hunt. Hope you can find the owner of the ring.
Thanks Dawn! I hold on to all ring finds, you just never know when a local conversation will turn into a “I lost x ring here a year ago” and ultimately result in a successful return. 😊
@@DirtFishMish that is so kind of you.
Good hunt Mish nice finds whent down me self 6am couldnt get a park had ta walk down with in an hour couldnt move mate packed up and went home still got a few goldies and a nice ring hey i like to watch the whole dig mate makes me feel like i'm there feeling the pain ha ha
It's getting the same way down here now that the weather is picking up, have to start going at weird times, but not easily possible when you're the family matriarch! hehe. Thanks for the feedback too Jeffrey, cheers. :)
@@DirtFishMish What was that when your the old chook in the family he he xxo
@@jeffreyrobinson5769 I am definitely the old chook in this house 🤣
Hi Mish. Maybe do what I do, dosome short cuts of finds, justb presenting what you have, and then throw in some full digs. I try to do this onn the better sounding targets, which don't always come up good, but it saves a lot of drag in your videos... live digging everthing can get tedious. :P
Yeah, I think I'll stick with my current mix, and just chop out the bad audio and excessively long digs. People really like seeing the VDIs here so I'll keep those going :) Just watched and enjoyed your latest park adventures, loved the ruins!
@@DirtFishMish Thanks. Yes maybe film all digs but only show the really good targets, and use clever editing to show others. Especially repetitive finds such add when you hit lots of goldies. I don't normally film brown buggers either unless it's a slow hunt like the latest video.
I try not to store show to much rubbish, if at all. N people I think like to see good finds over rubbish. But rubbish is part of the game. Sometimes I'll show one, maybe two, just so people don't think I never dig bottle caps.
Great video! Great finds! I'd like to hear your opinion about something in which I've heard two compelling arguments.
When it comes to cleaning your coins, do you try to restore them to a new or near new appearance, or do you merely clean them of debris and let them retain the discoloration and patina? I've heard that removing the "age" of certain objects actually makes them lose value. While I've also heard that for display purposes, cleaning to a near new appearance shows off the details and makes them more enjoyable to look at.
What do you do with your finds?
Hi there! Ooh that’s a contentious issue for sure. Firstly I check for key/rare dates (the rare ones don’t get messed with). If the patina is nice, I keep it that way however as a primarily beach detectorist they’re usually pretty rough looking and those get cleaned and/or tumbled. I keep all of my coins anyway, so ultimately it comes down to personal preference for me. Cheers 😄
Have you seen those mofus scoop handles they make it a lot easier to handle the scoop and i think they are only $14 from Extreme scoops USA
I have seen them, my other scoop has a handle but I haven’t gotten around to putting one on this scoop. I think I might just add some grip tape though. Thanks Phillip 😊
Nice finds! I was wondering what gopro you use?
Thanks Casey! I use both a Hero 6 Black and Hero 8 Black (I think it may have been the 8 in the water on this hunt, but not sure). Typically keep one mounted on a stick and the other on my chest harness. :)
Hi Mish, where did you get your trash bag? I really like it. Also, can I buy that 1966 one penny from you? I love your videos my friend, always excited when you pop up in my notifications!! cricket
Hiya Cricket! The good folks at trshbg.com will hook you up, please do slip in a note that I sent you! ;)
Do you mean the little 1¢ piece? We don't call them a penny as that's our predecimal currency (and those are the huge copper coins I find occasionally). I'd have to find it in a massive pile at home but I'm sure I can help you out mate :) I'll have a forage through my finds and get in touch! 💖
@@DirtFishMish thanks for the link to trash guys.com. I will mention you. And yes, the 1966 1 cent!
Nice silvers, That ammo looked like the head stamp from a small gauge shotgun possibly 410 or similar, Are titanium rings worth Much?? Also don't mind shortening up the digs but as a Nox user like to see the numbers..cheers
Thanks for the ID, a few people have said 410 so I’m going with that. 😁 Titanium is relatively inexpensive, not far above junk value. Cheers for the feedback too. 😊
Geez Mish you have been very busy producing videos.
The production line doesn't stop very often here! In reality, I often have bursts of hunts followed by time off, but I schedule them to publish on a regular basis (Tues & Fri AM my time). :)
Subscribed. Im just checking out various people for collaboration purposes.
Welcome aboard. 😊
Hey Mish do you wash down the detector after each beach use? 🤠👍
Absolutely, salt water can be really rough on gear. I have a trigger hose setup in the yard so when I get home it's easy to hose everything down before popping it out to dry. Have to wash the GoPros etc too. :)
Hi Mish what sito scoop do you use pls am looking into buying one
Hi there Kevin, this one is the 200mm mixed hole scoop. :)
First!
Love it!
Mish did you end up finding your ground hog you lost on the rocks
Sadly not - however not only have I replaced it with another, we also purchased a third for the husband's kit. Maybe it'll turn up again one day and surprise me. :) Thankyou!
Too cold to go in the water here. Brrr. ..I, myself, usually watch the entire video. Cheers.
The undertow.... thigh workout, for sure.
Yeah, the undertows can be quite strong huh. People just don't realise they are there, as the water looks rather calm on the surface. Thanks mate!
