They are a Dutch symphonic metal band that started the same time as Nightwish 1996. They are considered one of the pioneers of female fronted symphonic metal bands. The lead vocalist is Sharon den Adel who founded the band together with her partner Robert Westerholt. She applied, and was admitted, to the conservatory for opera training but did not like it so she changed over to the arts-academy within her first semester. So apart from that short stay she is complete self-tough. There she studied clothing design and management and completed it successfully. She has mainly used these skills in designing outfits used on stage. They have had a rather successful run in clubs for couple of years where their performances were constantly sold out.
Because of that they got invited to the biggest festival in the Netherlands "Pink Pop". Even though they had a very early start the concert was a huge success. They released their single "Ice Queen"shortly after expecting it to be very successful but it did not do much until somewhere in December that year a dj played it on the radio. Suddenly the song shot up in the charts and even took the number 1 spot. Now other countries started to pay attention.
The next song to take a look i would recommend "The promise" from their Black Symphony concert where they were supported by a full symphonic orchestra and choir. ruclips.net/video/39k1IQoeLAU/видео.html

Within Temptation is great . Yet another amazing Dutch symphonic metal band. Sharon has such a distinctive and angelic voice. They are not known very well in the U.S. and it’s a shame...kind of like Nightwish. You should check out the official video of Angels. You will like it I’m sure.
It’s definitely a shame.. we’ve missed so much great music over the years.... Growing up I always heard that the best music came only from America 😂😂😂😂 Nope great music is everywhere..... We don’t get great music on the radios really anymore over here 😥

WT has far too many songs that have never received airplay in the states. I have 20 or so on my permanent playlists: Faster, (video clip version), Shot in the Dark, Angels, Ice Queen, and too many others to name. The mystery of "why?" remains unsolved.
It will forever remain unsolved!!!! That’s why I don’t listen to the radio and the same 4 songs they play on it.
Ice queen is the song that got me into them, unbelievable.
@@Babewatcherbob It actually took me awhile to appreciate Ice Queen, but like many of their songs, if it doesn't hit you right away, it could mean you are not really listening to the music, and the talent of Sharon behind the lyrics.

I definitely recommend the songs What Have You Done, Our Solemn Hour, The Howling, Jillian, The Truth Beneath The Rose, Covered By Roses, and Angels. All are equally incredible and show Sharon's incredible vocals.
The Black Symphony live performances are extra incredible, because looking at her dancing on stage and hearing her singing powerfully, you wouldn't think she was very very sick at the time and had only just gotten her voice back in time. To your point about not being a forced collaboration…apparently WT had written and recorded their portion of the lyrics and sent them to Xzhibit and basically asked him to write his own part into the track, rather than first providing lyrics to him.
Hallo i have a Question? What is in the Water in the Netherlands? So much awesome female Singer, Floor, Sharon, Anneke, Charlotte, Marcella..i dont understand it..i am from Germany, and when i hear our vocalists only scary...
haha it's true about Netherlands, but what about Jennifer Haben from Beyond the Black ? She is beautiful, talented and from Germany :) I saw BtB live two years ago, they were supporting Within Temptation and they did great job!
Can I get some of that water please 😂 maybe it’s not too late for me to become a great singer.
