      By 1979 most likely 3/4 of the sled brands were long gone

    My dad and uncle sold them as "Morrison Bros" and did their own tune-ups, etc. My dad's 440 crushed a 640 Ski-Doo from the factory. They were blown away and had my dad and uncle do their tune-ups from now on... Great times!

    That announcer used to call our 3wheeler races in the mid 80s. Can’t remember his name, but he was fond of saying that he would be announcing from “the tilting Hilton”.

    I owned a Scorpion and brand loyalty was high as they were the "underdogs" of the industry. I saw the "Scorpion Squad" race at Eagle river and the machines were just leftover Arctic Cat SnoPros with Arctic Cat and Skidoo powerplants (depending on the displacement class) painted in Scorpion livery. They were not really Scorpion race sleds. I remember when the "Sting" was introduced to much fanfare. I looked one over and the butterfly carburetor, primitive clutching and drum brake were giveaways that they were machines who's time had passed before they even made it to production.

      The early Artic Cats ran Sachs and JLO power but switched to Kawasaki I think in 1973. The Kawasaki engines had a lot of problems with the chrome plating coming off the cylinders and seizing the engines so they switched to Suzuki power. Don't recall ever seeing anything but Sachs engines in Scorpions and neither Sachs nor JLO were overpowering race engines for sure. Never heard of a Rotax powered Scorpion either. Not saying it didn't happen but if it did they were just factory only race sleds and never production models i doubt.

    Range whip when I was a teenager. 400cc was almost as lite as a yamaha Bravo! Very close in weight. It had 40hp. That thing was fast and incredible in deep snow! Loved it and would buy another one now if I find one.

    Scorpion needs to start up again and make an affordable sled that doesn't look like something out of Star Wars! Had a Scorpion in the 70's and loved it. I raced a buddy of mine . He had an Arctic Cat. I beat him. He was upset. Too bad!!

      I read or heard Scorpion was going to start building sleds again maybe 8 to ten tears ago then that was the last i heard. It is going to be tough for the 3 or 4 companies that still build sleds to justify to keep building them. Winters with snow are fading fast all over the US and with sleds costing well over 10 grand now the only people that will buy them are ones that live above the Artic Circle and actually need them to get around. Mostly ain't like that in the lower 48...

    Those were the days! Sno Pro was a great series. Brad hulings was a hell of a racer even if it was a rebadged cat. Ted Otto without the hat. Lots of fan pride and brand loyalty.

    I have always been a Scorpion fan, but the cheerleading is a bit goofy. I wonder what Brad thought about it? Did the Scorpion team build and develop their sleds separate from the Arctic Cat team?

    • @mikeskidmore6754
      @mikeskidmore6754 5 лет назад +4

      Scorpion built their own Race Sleds just before Artic Cat bought them .. Artic Cat filed Bankruptcy about 1 or two years after purchasing Scorpion.. They sold off Scorpion in their bankruptcy ..
      You can thank Scorpion for inventing the molded rubber track

    Scorpion never did win the I- 500 race in Sault Ste Marie Michigan. I watched it every year from 1969 to 1974 then I moved away.

    I raced flat track motorcycles against Brad a round this time . I beat him in a pro 250 race in upstate NY one time and all he did was chirp at me about rough riding him. If anyone knows anything about Hullings and his motorcycle career he was one of the roughest riders around .

      @@dennybarlau8065 Motors and suspension??? That sounds pretty dumb. Scorpion ran Sachs engines which anyone could and did buy and run of the mill boggie or slide suspension. Certainly nothing Artic would have cared about.....

      Don't know about their race engines but their production engines were Cuyunas, similar if not the same as the JLO fan-cooled engines.
