You are absolutely right. I try and be good. Not because it earns salvation, but because I hate being evil. Yet I fail every day, and still Jesus died for me.
I am so fired up after watching that. I have been going through some tough things lately and that's fine. I will get through them. But it was a well needed reminder of what I already knew...ain't it something how we tend to commune a little less when things are going great and when we hit a tough time the prayers spring out like a well overflowing. Maybe that is the lesson He has been trying to reaffirm in me. Anyway, thank you for this sermon! God bless.
Great word, Pastor. (Why do you even let that John guy in the pulpit?) jk I heard it preached in the context of shame. The younger son committed shameful acts which are obvious. Less obvious is what the father did that would have been considered shameful in that culture. It would have been expected that the son would have arrived in town and fallen under the scornful eyes of the locals. He might have set outside his father’s house for several days being derided for his behavior by passersby. Then after a period of time he may have been given a job by his father…. perhaps through the message of a servant. Instead the father runs to meet him (considered shameful for a man of means to run anywhere). He covers his son’s shame and protects him from the derision of the people. In the same way Christ came “despising the shame” and died the shameful death of the cross that we might be elevated to sonship. Praise be to God!
Best sermon ever on this parable! Thank you and God Bless y'all's ministry!

We have a loving Father, we deserve nothing and he gives us everything.
