Miss him still. Miss seeing him ride down the street on his long skate board with Kim on the back giving him power, Jay, with that big goofy grin. Surfing out there with him at Pleasures. J Mo' with the two stroke take off. One of the most compassionate and positive people I've ever met. It took me a month to admit he was gone. But I didn't care. As a shrink, I knew it was the denial stage of the grief process, but I just didn't care. Denial stayed as long as I needed it to. Live Like Jay!

@@paytonhilscher4606 Yes, not well, but we'd surf together occasionally and we joked about how a patient of mine had a grandmother who actually saw Freud so "Dr Freud messed up and I had to fix it". At 1st I just knew him as Jay at O'Neill surf shop. He never let on about who he was or did but finally I figured it out. But it never changed our relationship.

On my way from San Francisco to Santa Cruz to surf pleasure point i stopped at Mavericks to see if guys were surfing. When i was walking through the parking lot a guy with a big smile asked how i was doing. I told him great and asked how he was and he said the same thing. As i walked away i thought man that guy was friendly. At this point i didn't recognize him. I went down to pleasure point and surfed for a couple hours. When i was getting out of the water i see the same guy coming down the steps with a big smile, he asked me if i had a good time, he seemed like the most stoked person I'd ever met. This was around 1998i guess, it hit me where I'd recognized him from after i got back to my car. My point is, the guys in this video talking about Jay Moriarity are dead on... genuine good person. Wish i would have gotten to surf with him...

The risk is worth the reward..Jay lived life to the fullest. This long time surfer had a few near death experiences on big days as most of us have. When you're young you have that invincibility feeling and as you get older and see too many friends die from accidents it makes you much more cautious and have an appreciation for life..

He reminds me of one of our mates, who unfortunately died the same way, a shallow water blackout but in a waist deep swimming pool seeing how many laps he could do under water on one breath, was a life guard for years also at one of the wildest beaches in our country, he also didn't show up for dinner.

I was never really into surfing, but I love swimming and the ocean. When I watched this movie and this video here, his story really moved me too. Especially in the movie where the actor said something like "I always had a feeling I wouldn't be here for a long time", I wonder if they got that from Jay's diary (if he had one) or if he actually said that. I think his story affects not only "children of the tides" but others who have a passion for something, whether it be surfing, cooking, running, or painting. Like 61wills said, Jay's story makes me rethink my life and how I could be a better person. Jay taught us to be happy and passionate about things we love in life and to just go for it.

Uplifting story that should be shared with the world. Jeff Clark’s story of surfing Mavericks all by himself is revealed to be a faith based foundation of a trust with God. His faith allowed himself to over come fears that would have stopped anyone else. This is not a religious film but the stars of the film believe in God and their trust in the divine has shaped their surfing lives and their desire to ride the biggest waves in the world. Thank you Jeff for sharing your story and your faith with the world. I am better person for knowing your and Jay’s story.

J taught me my work ethic and to work hard to yeah it's hard to see what he was going through at that age yeah at age and juggling all that at once I know I had it easy growing up had everything I ever wanted you know only bullshit was that my parents were divorced but they made up in that with materialism. It wasn't until I was 25 where I think I really learned the value of a dollar. So I'm thinking about the simple shit I went through and I'm looking at Jay like Superman God-bless him and everything he did while he was on this Earth, Yeah especially taking care of his single mother because I grew up with the single mother and it's not easy I think it's actually harder for the mother

There's something incredibly beautiful and nostalgic about the ocean. It's hard for me to put into words, I guess the last words of this video sum it up best "the wave never changed, the people did." I was a month away from my 8th birthday when Jay passed, a birthday I spent on the beaches of North Carolina ironically enough. As heartbreaking and tragic any loss of life is, there's something eternally immortal about dying at sea. Beautiful, nostalgic, eternal. RIP Jay and all the the men and women who conquer the big water.

What a fine fine guy, He was a real Aquaman!!!! I think he loved the Ocean so much that he decided to stay down there in that magic world beneath the surface, and that is how they found him, peaceful sitting on the ground of the Ocean floor.... Rip you beautiful soul! 💜🙏🌊❤️🌊❤️🌊❤️
