But what shattered the ability to effectively regulate lineups more than anything were the idiots (mostly the Luanda guys) who took things waaaay too far, forcing the courts to get involved and pass surf rage legislation. It’s always the same story: a handful of jackasses ruining everything for everyone else. As for surf schools, they’re not regulated and have no process for vetting their efficacy. I’ve worked for several and some do a great job while others DGAF about teaching etiquette and proper knowledge of the sport and lifestyle. Codified systems are essential as are effective regulations and the proper enforcement of them.
Kolohe as a grom reminds me of Kalani Robb how back in the days he was a super grom sandwiched between different generations of the best pro surfers there could be on earth older and younger then them.

Big ups to him and mayhem for that one -invisible roller coaster tracks in the air that was one where it all just came together should’ve been a ten. And then you have one of the gnarliest airs that nobody talks about from kolohe at the intro.
Industry like any other really is about who, when, and where, so much undiscovered talent everywhere because the industry wants to keep their circle tight. So anyone with talent really gotta grind outside of surfing just to get on, too many bs politics.
So a Former middle ranked pro who was way overpaid during the Glory Years, thinks 300k is a fair clip, decides to start a clothing brand, so one day he can pay someone 300k.Or to show these Corporate dogs,[ essentially the same guy's who wrote his Million dollar paychecks] how his many years on the gravy train have taught him that he knows best. After a few years of struggling, he realizes how hard it is to make money in the surf clothing game, unless you have very solid financial backing. Enter cashed up investor, arguments ensue between creatives/founder and investor when sales targets fall short, brand struggles- eventually folds. Former Pro sneaks back to his safe place. Finds someone else to blame. Maybe has to devise a way to earn a buck. Good Luck KA - Tough road if your looking for a payday

Yeah. I like Kolohe. Solid bloke. But the name just kinda goes “meh.” And I agree that having an interesting backstory is clutch for any brand, especially a lifestyle brand.
This was so sick. He’s spot on about the industry. It’s just a skin suite of surf culture, a facsimile of more dynamic eras past. It’s so boring when compared to the 70’s - 2010’s, each of those eras were distinctly surfing and distinctly unique. They pushed the boundaries of fashion (some/most was terrible, but we love that!), music, culture and lifestyle. At best these days all we see are plain black tees with small inoffensive 90’s logo’s cheaply machine printed on, made in Bangladesh, edgy. This generation will have nothing to look back on, nothing to look back and laugh about or revel in and nothing iconic enough to become vintage in 20 years time. I’m not shitting on this generation, I worry for them. I am however pointing the finger at the chicken shit corporate overlords too scared to take any risk and invest in the surf culture of tomorrow.

DON"T DO IT, CS; ya KOOK! sad to hear 2% is just one of a list that seemed "cool"; but what's in a name... besides" marketablilty, revenue stream, public perception", etc; and all the other stuff that goes along with milking the modern "surf culture"... hence the frog..?!?
