It amazes me to see how many people willingly drowns ther car?
This crossing must be a gold mine for the local repair shops in the area!
Earns more money than Bill Gates 😂
Yes. The repair shop probably then proceeds to bribing the local government to not build a bridge with earned money😂
Only a couple of miles for a detour without a Ford crossing from what I can gather?
@timemachine194 Amazing lol
Most of these cars will be written off as the engines, once hydrolocked, are effectively scrap. What amazes me is the lack of mechanical empathy and sheer stupidity.

They think that if it dries, the car will start fine xD
@@manucodalunga8893 Denial is the first stage of grief :)
@not today Probably not going to happen. Tolerances are too tight to maintain compression. It is why engines left exposed to the elements will have water in the cylinders.

How do they make so much money
The best thing to do when hydrolocked is NOT try to start it (obviously). Remove the spark plugs or glow plugs and turn the engine over on the starter. Make sure you remove water from any part of the intake including the air filter housing. We all know you can't compress water so by trying to start it every single time you are putting immense force on the internals and it is how you bend connecting rods. You also need to be lucky in the first place and hope that you don't already have a bent connecting rod.
Exactly. Exhibit 1: 1:40
He was getting away with it till he floored the revs and spun up the turbo. At which point it appeared to grab eve more water into the inlet and ruin itself. I wonder if the bottom rungs on the intercooler were filled with water still and when idling it was just breathing through the clear top section of intercooler. When he revved it and created some boost it sucked in all the water. Just a thought. It was a bad strat.....

01:04 The overconfident wave just before the plumes of white exhaust smoke and loss of power. 🤣
I passed my test in the army and when we were getting trained in off road driving we were taught to all ways go through water in first gear so when I see cars fly through and rip bits off and wreck there cars it makes sense like the car at the end just going through at normal speed with no problems.
My dad and I drove up a mountain road in our Mitsubishi Eclipse, and we didn't get stuck in flood waters. Some were below the tires, but eventually, we came to a slow-moving surge up to our windows. But if you go slow and smooth, you will cross that body of water, even in a two-door coup.
@@unwavering_sightseer7818 Depends entirely on the height of the air filter intake.
@@missiontent111 I agree; my Eclipse has a little bump on the hood where the battery and intake are housed. So it has a good amount of air.
that would be a bad idea in BMW's case: he would have stayed in the pit if he was slow; sure, he hydrolocked the engine, but he would have done it even if he was slow, he would just get a shorter distance. Here, however, the first part was good (getting a good momentum), but the seocnd wasn't: if he was prudent, he'd just unplug the spark plugs and cleared the problem and went his way. If he was slow, he would have been stranded in the bottom of the sump
in the SUV's cases - sure, that was stupid to run so fast
Well said, you just have to go slow. Then the water won't go up as height as your fender or even your air filter. They just don't know, putting your gas down on the flood water is a freaking bad idea

Rover, you are competent…
The most enamoured endorsement for Rover I have heard in quite some time!
I like how they lift the bonnet pretending they know what they're doing. That BMW was hydrolocked. Probably won't ever be the same again. Are people that stupid?!
People are that stupid. This proves it.
I guess as soon as it locks up, you could shove it out of the way, take the glow plugs/spark plugs out and spin it over to pump the water out and give it a fighting chance. Not really an easy roadside job tho
It'll be as good as new after a heart transplant and neurosurgery. The insurance company will probably just euthanize it.

I mean they was stupid enough to stick an m badge on the car thinking it makes it better.

BOOOOM..... 10/10
This rivercrossing is more destructive and WAY more costly than a bangerrace!!!!
Only the competitors don’t realise....
And sure it is fun to watch!!!
For overseas watchers, I point out that the second two numbers on the car's plate tell the year of registration (more or less). The Beemer with DX14 etc is eight years old. However, a 70 plate means 2020, just to confuse! Round by Rufford people seem to keep their vehicles in good condition and well-maintained. The downside is that if a vehicle is worth perhaps £4,000 second hand, playing at river patrol through a ford is likely going to cost that amount for a replacement engine. That makes it a write-off. 10 seconds of fun creating a bow wave, and years of regret afterwards...
63? 55?
@@iSd3dde I don't know what they were smoking in the DVLA in Swansea. Those plates didn't mean 1963 or1955. The cars were registered in 2013 and 2005.
@@travelbugse2829 It's quite easy - +50 for the second period of the year (Sep-Feb).
I've checked out various vehicles seen wrecking themselves on this & other channels & frequently there's no trace of the number plate actually existing never mind taxed & still on the road.
@@anniemac3075 Don't get confused by the fact that in many cases the number plate is ripped off and lying in the middle of the river. There was a pile of them kept by the wayside. Maybe other video channels show ppl who used old vehicles, but I doubt that scenario happened much at Rufford Ford.

Always painful to see people that have no idea how an engine works trying to get one going again 😂
Yeah, but opening a bonnet and looking into the engine bay is a quick DIY fix. Especially if you have a small pocket spanner set and tap various parts of the engine...LOL
even driving in the left lane is unique and crazy in the world
White Rover wins points for knowing how to drive through a ford but instantly loses them for not knowing how to use the de misting controls of his/her own car (yes I have a points system for all combatants who choose this path, very few achieve a positive score)
It's an old Rover so every chance anything electrical is just about working at best... Still nice to see one on the road though :-)
First mistake, you don't accelerate fast in the water cause the water would get to the engine easily. You have to go very slowly and pres a little bit the gas pedal. I have done that with my Toyota Avensis Sedan 1.6L Manual 5 Speed 2008 in the river with almost the same amount of water without any problem. You have to go slowly, that's all.
ohhhhh boy a lot of good stories start with a grey bmw....and a lot of these videos also....

The Nobel prize for physics goes to the 1st car driver who can compress water 💦 in there engine 🥴
1:47 - Because repeatedly cranking the engine will suddenly undo the water damage.
There's a new comedy film coming out soon, Carry On Cranking.
In fact it mights only make it worst.
Seems to be two "good" options (apart from taking the short detour lol): real slow yet with more time in water, or flat out with no time for bonnet wash? The ones in the middle seem to get written-off.
2:13 I think water gets into the combustion chambers via the intake path, hence the white smoke.
And water into the footwell, hence the wet feet...LOL

@@Owen-hg3cu what, m wing mirror caps.. and an m badge on the back😂 I know nothing tho I’ve only had a 440 and an m4
Use first gear, and slip the clutch to maintain a low road speed with high engine revs: that way you can keep the bow wave as small as possible and there is less chance of water getting into the exhaust. If the water is too deep, the engine and electrics will conk out anyway; but if it isn't, driving through it like a bull in a china shop is about the most likely way to fail, and you can tear chunks off the vehicle in the process. Shame that didn't occur to a lot of these bright sparks.
You’re totally right, but the high engine revs is wrong . Engine should be as close to idle as possible. Decreases the chances of water intake .
Or take the detour
A couple bent rods are always fun.

Nearly as potent as a combination of arrogance and ignorance, both of which are so evident here.

So, is the consensus that the BMW was hydrolocked or had a bent rod? I need a satisfying conclusion. Btw, thanks for the upload
By how it was struggling to turn over towards the end I'd say there's a very high chance that there's internal damage to the engine.
