- This is the great soul band, Tower of Power, practicing their beautiful soul ballad "Sparkling in the Sand" in its entirety (originally released on their "East Bay Grease" album in 1970) during sound check at River City Casino, St. Louis, Missouri, on August 11, 2018. The band celebrated its 50th anniversary on August 13, 2018, so this St. Louis show was the last show of their 50th year of touring the world before their 51st year began on August 13 in Atlanta, Georgia.
This video was shot with a GoPro HERO 5 Black using a RODE VideoMic shotgun mic mounted on a small tripod on the front edge of the stage. As a result, it is not a perfect mix; the horn parts stand out quite clearly, especially the trumpets. But nonetheless, I hope you find it enjoyable.

Nice job Bob. Super Clear. I have been lucky to be able to be at several TOP soundchecks. Never videoed any of them. I do have this song in a video on my account , a performance at Lake Tahoe featuring my friend Jody Lopez TOP's original guitarist and co-writer of Sparkling. Only shot it with my iphone 7 so not as high quality. Check it out if you get a chance.
Thanks. Just a GoPro mounted on a little table top tripod.
Thanks, Bob, can you upload it to Facebook so that we can share it? FB is blocking YT Videos.
Robert A. Velarde It's on Doc Kupka's Facebook page.
Thanks-a-slot Burchieness.
