Saw these guys in 1972 and have never recovered. Their live performances are truly overwhelming. I have seen them perform in small nightclubs, theaters, and larger arenas. No matter what venue, they come to perform...........AMAZING!!
I would have to disagree with the negative comment(s) concerning Carlos Santana. He's not the least bit out of his league. He brought one style into another and if you listen to the changes, he was right there. As a bass player in an extremely hot Gospel R&B Band, I would love to play with Carlos Santana. It's all about merging the styles, folks. We don't have too many real musicians left out there, folks. Enjoy what we still have.
It's a different style that really doesn't fit the band. That doesn't mean it isn't good. But if TOP were looking for a guitar player, and a guy showed up who wasn't Carlos Santana but played that style, he wouldn't be hired.
Horn bands Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire certainly wrote more hits, but TOP's horns can't be topped. The level of talent in this band is through the roof, and even their live shows are tight. One show in Lincolnshire, Illinois was a small room with a low stage. I stood about 15 feet in front of the horns and am now bald. Their dynamics are phenomenal.
This band is as tight as two coats of paint! So great to see the 1972-79 rhythm section reunited on this gig. David Garibaldi, Rocco Prestia, Bruce Conte and Chester Thompson are kicking it!
I've listened to lots of versions, but keep coming back to this one. I smile EVERY time CT starts hittin, wobblin, and holdin his keys. So awesome when they get lost in their own energy. 4:53 & 5:08, as good as it gets. David, Rocco, and Chester in a perfect groove! What a magical mix of talent on one stage. A rare tour stop in little Greenville, SC at The Handlebar on June 5! Can't wait! Pray that many will come. We live in a dying land and so many are in need of the soul vaccination.
Knock Yourself Out - Tower of Power Live and Living Color 1976 Sacramento, CA. Lenny Pickett (LP) was amazing and a half! This one is nice and slick but that one was real & raw and also included CT with an outstanding solo!
Why these guys aren't in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is a crying shame. But this rendition of Knock may be the hottest yet. The battle of the monster B3 organists in Chester and Roger, the killer vocals of Larry Braggs (the baddest cat in the land, bar none) and the best horn section ever assembled -- AND Carlos Santana on guitar! Mercy this is just too hot!
Absolutely my favorite band of ALL TIME!!!!! David Garibaldi is truly one of a kind. THE best drummer in the world. This band is so tight. Everything works. And Larry on lead vocals. Wow!!!!!!
They MURDERED Train in Aarhus (Denmark) in 2002. People (including myself) went totally apeshit in ecstasy for 2½ hours... It was a VERY long travel home that night...
SAXJAZZED---THIS IS THE LAST,OF THE REAL THING CALLED A BAND...WHAT BAND,TODAY IN 2011,CAN FUNK WITH THIS (HORN SECTION),NONE!!! I'M WITH YOU SAXJAZZED,THIS IS THE LAST,OF A REAL FULL BAND...STILL THE FUNKIEST!!!
I've had the chance to see them Live, and I can say that I personally know them and David G. is a good friend. I first saw them in San Francisco, I was introduced to them by a DJ named Tony King ! Their energy runs through your body, you have to "Move"!
I wonder what it must feel like for someone who is musically inclined who has never heard this band before. If that person had any musical soul in them they would be blown away from what they hear. I remember in the late 70's I would be in Washington DC and the cats there would be blown away from what they were hearing. What the Tower does is very hard to duplicate and they work hard to keep the standards up. This band has inspired many good musicians to keep playing!
I'm not getting the negativity on Carlos. He's never been a shredder, always very melodic. He shows his stuff here in a big way! But to have two of the best B3 players on the planet on the same stage - good LAWD that's too hot! Kinda wished they still closed their show with this, but even if you don't know the band do yourself a favor and see these guys in concert! You'll feel their professionalism, talent and soul though your entire body!
This band is the one of the best' solo Hammond by the two of my mentors Mr Chester Thompson and Mr Roger Smith mainnn im dancing and Mr Larry Braggs best T O P vocalist ever phenomenal
i saw them many times. LB is my favorite singer. If I was there, I would have broke into sweat and danced my ass off. Some europeons are too polite. TOP was meant for all out blood gushing fun!!! It's rebirth with a TOP concert!
all I have to say is chester thompson is one of the best musicians ever. santana would not be what he is today with out the incredible organ skills of Chester. Tower of Power still has it after over 40 years. Do your self a favor and go see them live ASAP.
Hey there Mr Ernie ....it IS Chester Thompson & Roger Smith ... Rogers been TOP's resident organ Player since 1998 and he does the first Solo at 1min 17 and is wearing a blue stripey Shirt ...Chester Thompson in Red T Shirt Kicks in @ 4 Min 13 secs and Larry Braggs Name checks him at 5min 26 secs and Carlos Santana steps up towards the end ..Top ...in the house "Knock yourself out" and playing live In London Shepherds Bush .....Sun Nov 19th ...I will be there....
En mi Col. Existía en 1968 una banda de rithim ando blues llamada SOUL MÁSTERS el ritmo casi de igual manera que tower ando power la Col Mixcoac en su entorno con otros grupos fueron iniciadores del rock
We do not say anything about Santana because of his career, but if his name was Juan Perez, we would recommend that you go to study or dedicate yourself to another activity linked to the music industry, businessman, producer. In this context it is evident

Saw them in Ft. Lauderdale this month. Great show!!
😅😅
Chester Thompson on the Hammond organ is awesome.
Dave G was the drummer who rescued me from a coma-inducing boredom of 70's rock drumming.

Saw them at the bottom line in NYC, gotta be 47 yrs ago . Like an out of body experience, the best live concert I’ve ever seen
I was there also.
Chester Did his thing that night!!!
after you see these dudes in concert you are hooked for life...wouldn't it be refreshing to see TOP perform at grammys or superbowl..
🖤🎼🖤👻🍿🎬💋

I think they did perform at the Superbowl back in the '70's
@@shelbykindred7773 thanks!!! And they still around!!! bad boys!
I am deeply ashamed of what I have been listening to up to this moment. This is THE MUSIC!!!
You are redeemed. Carry on...
It's never too late for some soul vaccination!

It's all a matter of taste, but for my money, TOP Montreux 2006 is one of the greatest live sets of all time.
Knock Yourself Out - Tower of Power Live and Living Color 1976 Sacramento, CA. Lenny Pickett (LP) was amazing and a half! This one is nice and slick but that one was real & raw and also included CT with an outstanding solo!
Yeah, I've got that, too. LP is awesome for sure!
I am Knocked Out! Love this so much.
Boomer from the bay.😊
THIS ......is the funk .....hottest band on the planet ......
This is what a complete band sounds like… MASTERCLASS … Insane musicianship …👍🏽
I remember hearing the live version of this song when I was a teenager and falling in love with this band. Still loving this groove today!
Hardest working Band in Bay. Went to see them and whoeverelse!! Always A MainAttraction.

They're the very best of all, and I have been playing Saxophone for 36 years.
This is so great. Lots of past posts knocking Carlos' solo. I think it gets better every time I listen. A great blend of styles in the same song.
He found his groove though.
Unbelievably AWESOME... What soul and wicked groove!

God has no more funky and tight band on the planet earth EVER.. In the history of the world..PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i saw them many times. LB is my favorite singer. If I was there, I would have broke into sweat and danced my ass off. Some europeons are too polite. TOP was meant for all out blood gushing fun!!! It's rebirth with a TOP concert!
Larry is so amazing that without him it must be, so very hard. WHAT A GROVE, The drummer David is also amazing. Jimmy Strassburg.
Chester' Solo out of this world. Love these guys.
Amen to that!
Actually, that’s Roger Smith on organ and Keys
My bad! Roger Smith AND Chester Thompson!
all I have to say is chester thompson is one of the best musicians ever. santana would not be what he is today with out the incredible organ skills of Chester. Tower of Power still has it after over 40 years. Do your self a favor and go see them live ASAP.
Wasn’t it Roger Smith on the first keyboard break and Chester Thompson on the second keyboard solo break
Just a thrilling band. Fifty-two years, not a beat missed.
CT puts it down!! LB what a great performer! And no we’re not leaving TOP out at all!
Hey there Mr Ernie ....it IS Chester Thompson & Roger Smith ...

What a Keyboard Duo !
THIS...is music. So kids today would not understand it, because, well, it's MUSIC!
GREAT horn section, GREAT rhythm section, GREAT singer... what more could you ask for in a band??
Отличная работа - мастерство, темп, импровизация, сценический образ !
Thanks for this post! Grateful for RUclips!
this is awsome reminds me of the funk of the old tower, bad ass solos
Love love love it...especially when the (imo world's finest) horn section breaks into dance at 7:10 :-D
Son espectaculares los solos de los organistas ! De coleccion !
Oh it's Just still so good in 2024 :) Enjoy the Music :)
thank you for posting this.......... quality
both hammond players are just insane.
Arriba! Tower of Power! Grateful for RUclips!
You guys really "Funked-Up" that Jazz festival !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Talk about a cure when your down...Holy smoking hot damn!!!
No one can duplicate this groove
I call them the bay areas oun my homies from Oaktown,,awesome,,,
No-Body pumps harder than my favorite Band the boyz of T-O-P!!
In my opinion, LD was a perfect fit for TOP. But what a great group of musicians.. They know how to groove.. Keep rockin fellows..
0:52. David...you always nail it home.
I saw these guys on long island they were great
Phenominal, every single time!!
I, for one, love Santana's solo!
The best singer The Tower ever had!!!
Sounds like East Bay Grease and The City brought some very tight soul to our friends in Switzerland! Santana AND TOP!? Just too much!
Tower of Power and Carlos Santana ... Burning up the stage!
Spectacular!! Man... what I would do to be in that band.
His solo took all of the energy built-up right out of the performance.
Просто нет слов...... Потрясающая сыгранность и вкус
Super
Now we're Listening to Music with a Beat n one Bad Ass Guitar Man
Spectacular! ❤
Let the drummer get some! Dave Garibaldi is one of the best drummers ever! Happy Birthday!
Thanks for this post!
Larry Braggs may or may not be the greatest lead singer in Tower of Power's history, but he sure does sound fantastic to me.
Ooooooooooooooweeeeeeeeeeeeeee tearing those horns drums and organ up and guitars
That's me on the trumpet in my room when nobody's home. The sax solo on the red album will make you weep.
TOP rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and beyond.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooow!
Absolutely cooking 7.20 !!
Legendary !
Larry Braggs!!! Knock knock knock knock What!!!
TOP IS A JAZZ BAND .MORE THAN SOUL BAND.. INDIVI DUALS IS A HOT PLAYER ... SAX... TRUMPET AND ORGAN PLAYER AMAZING....

SO So GREAT. BEST JIMmy Strassburg
Hell yeh!!

すげーー・・ I'll be able to get involved in this atmosphere in Sep @ Tokyo Jazz Festival . amazing...
If you know someone whose feeling low make them listen to this.
And STILL not in the Hall of Fame?
Not Carlos’ genre. He is a legend though!!
Hot groove!!!
The fellas don"t put out no trash
Brilliant stuff
Which video r u lookin at? because that is Chester Thomas. I met him in person, and trust me, THAT IS HIM.
Some serious players on that stage. And nobody can do what David Garibaldi can do!
En mi Col. Existía en 1968 una banda de rithim ando blues llamada SOUL MÁSTERS el ritmo casi de igual manera que tower ando power la Col Mixcoac en su entorno con otros grupos fueron iniciadores del rock
killer RnB music machine
How many horn bands can claim to have not just one, but two B3 Virtuosos playing cross-stage AND have Carlos Santana sitting in? Damn what a set.
But there are two of them, Chester on the real B3, Roger on New-B3... Chester is sitting on the left of the stage, Roger on the left!
Bruce Conte is L O C K I N' IT D O W N!!!
❤
