It worked well, but it’s detectable. New versions of plagiarism apps are detecting this technique, so suggestion is to instead of putting an i while replacing to just keep a space on both write options that might prevent the i from showing up. Or better yet to just use snipping tool although it does take longer and formatting might change every now and than and you’ll just have to re adjust it
After doing the scan on Paper Owl, it shows 0% plagiurism, however, it still shows "i" before each letter. I'm afraid teachers will see the "i". Any other option?
It doesn’t work on portals or websites of specific institutions as they dont take upload because they has recognized it already in their portal so they don't even take this upload while giving it.
If you tried to modify it before applying this technique it might say 0 replacement, do it on your back up copy that you haven't edited and keep a copy of your original work. It will work
Another trick is using the "Snipping Tool" then copy the text, replace the text with the snipped picture, as the turnitin doesn't detect pictures with text, then finally convert the word file to PDF
Thanks so much for sharing this with all of us college professors! Now we can quickly reverse engineer this in less than thirty seconds. Also, if students try to submit in PDF to "avoid" detection, I just press "select all" then copy and paste so that I can more easily work with them in Word during the grading and commenting process. As soon as their essays exist again in Word, these workarounds are readily detectable. At this point, any misguided student subscribing to these tactics can no longer claim "accidental" plagiarism. The student is then not only booted out of my class, but the entire school because any leg to stand on is completely undefendable. If any of you want to roll the dice on this, I will be the first to acknowledge your good luck if you succeed, but I will also be first to send you an "I told you so" if your academic career unravels. BTW--if you want to calculate your odds of success, about 80% of my fellow instructors use this same strategy, and this number is growing daily.
