I've been catching shit for saying that for the past 3 years. In fact, I'm not sure these guys are even FBS caliber. These are mistakes that an FCS caliber QB makes when playing an SEC defense. It's not going to get any better. It's downhill from here.

Auburn needs a real coach stop with the high school coaches
My thoughts about Auburn after the Arkansas loss…
Let’s talk about 2025.
Have I given up on Auburn in 2024? No, but most of the issues with Auburn in 2024 aren’t going to be fixed in 2024; they can only be fixed in the off-season.
First off, the good…
Hugh Freeze is a good coach and doesn’t need to be replaced: The existing issues aren’t on him. The cupboard was bare when he got to Auburn, and he’s restocking quickly. His offensive scheme works. He has a good DC, defensive staff, and defense. Auburn recruiting is the best it’s ever been, and recruits will be more enticed by the possibility they can play early (meaning the current execution issues won’t hurt recruiting).
Auburn is way more talented than they were last year: Losing 2 “power 4” games by 7 and 10 points respectively, when they gave up 5 turnovers in each game is testament to that. And in both games, Auburn outplayed their opponents. Playing a lot of freshmen. And the fumbles can be fixed (more about the INT’s later).
The defense plays well, is getting better, and adapts: In every game this year so far, the defense has played better in the 2nd half than the first. Also, the D has been getting better each game. In the Arkansas game the D had everything but QB scrambles stopped for 3 quarters, they just couldn’t overcome the deluge of turnovers from the offense. The “worst” part of the D is the secondary, and they stepped up big against Arkansas.
The offense can run the ball: Against the 8th-rated Arkansas run defense, Auburn ran for 146, and were averaging 8 yards per carry in the first half. Imagine what they do when they don’t kill half their drives with turnovers.
Now, the bad…
Auburn won’t make a bowl game in 2024: It sucks, but their path to being 8-4 this year included beating Cal and Arkansas and they didn’t. So even if they start playing like we thought they were going to play starting next week, they can’t lose to another “lesser” team. But they can’t pass without giving the ball away, and while their talent is better, that talent is freshmen and transfers who will still make a few mistakes as the year goes on.
Auburn needs to add 2 quarterbacks after this season: I’m not gonna bad-mouth Payton Thorne or Hank Brown, just point out that as of game 4 both QB’s have been benched for turnovers, and this is Payton Thorne’s last year. Neither is living up to Hugh’s hope of a 3,000 yard QB (250 yards per game). Meaning after this season is over, Auburn will need either a starting QB or a ready-to-play backup for Hank, or both. And we won’t know if Hank is ready to play in 2025 until play starts in 2025 so… Auburn needs to add 2 QBs.
The offense: The offense was the reason for the losses to Cal and Arkansas. And while the run game is good (and could be great), the coaches inexplicably won’t commit to the running game… but only have QB’s who throw INTs. Outside of that, they run an RPO scheme yet 2/3rds of their formations either don’t have a running back or don’t have wideouts. Unless we’re at the goal line or facing 3rd and 10 or more, just stick with the base formation and motions to make the defense wonder what we are doing. But seriously, invest in the run game. Our current QB’s cannot carry the weight of the offense and half our wideouts are freshmen. We have 3 good to great running backs. A consistent run game is easier for the offensive line to block, it builds momentum, and it kills opponent momentum. If and when the defense starts loading 8 in the box, then go nuts with passing.
Offensive run play calling is predictable: If the ball goes to Jarquez, it’s between the tackles. If another running back is in and we run, it’s going outside. It’s a shame because while Jarquez is great between the tackles, he’s better in open space (first defender almost always misses). Mix the plays up with all the running backs. Also use more draws, sweeps and running back screens to keep those RBs rolling and the D playing honest.
Defensive pressure: When our defense has them at 3rd and long and 4th and long, we switch to some weird contain defense then we get burned (2023 Iron Bowl, anyone?). If the opposing QB can’t pass under pressure, then give him freaking pressure. Yes, he may beat you with his mobility or whatever once in a while, but he won’t be able to consistently maintain a drive.
Fumbles: The players aren’t carrying the ball correctly in traffic. Teach the players how to hold a football securely and make them practice by carrying a ball with them all week (not in practice): ball in the left arm when walking on the left, ball on the right arm when walking on the right; transition the ball when moving from left to right or vice versa, and both arms on the ball when walking past someone. The goal is to become so proficient they don’t think about it, and it’s less embarrassing to carry a ball around campus than it is to fumble on Saturday.
Tipped balls by receivers: Auburn receivers keep tipping passes up in the air because their hands are low when they turn to face the ball instead of at chest or head height. Practice turning with the hands up, the hands should be in the triangle, and ideally be at or above the ball so the hand adjustment is down to the ball (meaning a dropped pass goes down to the ground, not up like a volleyball set).
Auburn needs a “real” offensive coordinator: Maybe that’s Derrick Nix, maybe it’s not, but while Hugh Freeze can do it, he doesn’t have the time and there’s some huge disconnect between whoever is coaching the players and what Hugh is expecting the players to be able to do scheme-wise and execution-wise. Hugh needs to find someone he can trust to play call, who can also innovate, and Auburn needs to be able to pay them.
I’m sure people will disagree with a lot of this, but we can all agree Auburn is not playing up to expectations. These are things Auburn can do to fix issues they are currently having.

Positive note...i just don't see one. Freeze is making the same mistakes weeks in a row. Nobody seema to be taking care of basics. They got a great back. Run & protect the ball. Everything else flows from those 2 things.
Lol Duece Knight isn't a day one starter anywhere in P4 football. He is raw af and needs some serious development. We need a Sr. portal QB who knows the difference between hitting his receivers and the other team.

Positive: this happened still fairly early in the year and was so bad that it made it clear to everyone that something major needs to change (my boog is that a 2 loss team could easily make it into the playoffs) if freeze is the type of coach that we actually keep them he'll make the change thats needed
No we are screwed. They can't fix any of these issues. We are going to lose a lot more games and all of this recruiting momentum will be lost to the portal and competing NIL offers.

the sad part is someone is open on almost every play, either it's a bad throw or they don't see it. The O-line is built more for run and not pass. The defense has no help from the offense which exposes their depth. We need a SEC qb. By now, this season is lost. Stack classes, and by year 3 if there's no progress, then we're Florida 2.0

Scheme is fine. People running wide open every game and we throw into coverage and never throw behind the blitz. Every ball has to be an explosive play and it’s killing us. The loss against AR is SQUARELY on the players. We led in every stat but turnovers and TD’s. We were within FG range 8 times and no points due to turnovers and stupid decisions like throwing a deep ball into double coverage on 3rd and 2. Can’t blame the coaches for poor execution because the gameplan and scheme were actually pretty solid. QB’s are making poor decisions. Everyone is loading the box daring us to beat them with the pass game. Neither QB attacked behind the blitz over the middle which was wide open all game. KLS was running WILD on his side. The one time PT attacked the blitz was when KLS ran the skinny post for the TD. We got a bunch of Ferraris in the receiver room, just get them the ball and let them do their thing. How many receivers who have caught the passes are getting yards after catch? We’re throwing overwhelmingly too many low percentage passes when people are wide open with some space. Can’t blame the poor execution of a solid plan on coach. Last year the scheme sucked and it drove me nuts, but the true Freeze scheme is solid. It’s actually really QB friendly. All they have to do is throw to the first person open instead of being greedy or eyeing down the receivers. If he used his eye to pause the Defense he would have had several TD’s in the first half. Go watch the pick to the outside when he was eyeing down the out route. The whole defense paused and KLS was 3 yards behind them when he threw the ball 🤦♂️. Man you can’t coach execution or lack thereof. Saban has made that crystal clear many times.

Yes we're a dumpster fire. But this is the season the harsin recruiting bust hurts the most. If harsin had hit the ground running his first recruits would be seniors. It's hard to patch together a good team from the portal. Next season Freeze's first recruits will be juniors if they don't transfer.

I stopped buying tickets and requesting off work to watch Auburn play back in 2021. Something is not right with Auburn. It’s like they’re cursed at QB play or something. Tough to watch.
I love auburn and i always will.. But this football season is over.. This game unfortunatly is no surprise...Really im happy we only lost by 10... Maybe Alabama will let us score a touchdown.. Georgia will allow us to score i think.. But we are going to shock the world and lose every game.. we are done .. hopeless.. its not if we win but how little can we lose by.. War Eagle!! This is not negativity its just the truth.. Miracles wont even help us because the game needs to be close and people are going to make an example out of us for the rest of the year.. players are going to pad there stats against us... atleast we can play our role and make the other teams feel good about there programs.. No Black QB on the roster. Auburn has had it best season recently with Black QBs. Jason Campbell, Cam newton , Nick Marshall.
