  • An amazing place to explore, there was still stuff everywhere, as close to untouched as we've seen. Some fantastic history in this place, hope you enjoy! Sorry there was no bodycam footage but the battery died as we went inside, so a simple quick edit on the iphone.

Sad seeing the old headgear rusting away and the mind shaft probably filled and capped. Surprised its so still intact, when I visited collierys in the late 80s and 90s they were demolished quickly after closure.

My Father worked there, my Grandfather worked there, my Great-Grandfather worked there. All lived in Hirwaun at some time. Until the 50s when my mother sold the house she'd inherited at the bottom of the Tramway and we moved away. They all caught a pony's tail as they stampeded into the light and freedom on certain days. Holding onto the tail allowed them to be towed up the drift at top speed and int the open. Good tales indeed
The older men wouldn't wash their backs as they believed it would wash their strength away. My mother and Great-Grandmother put a tin bath in front of the fire and filled it with hot water for my father to wash in. There was little embarrassment back then and both women washed my father down. Tough old days as some who are still alive in Hirwaun can still testify to Mother's side name was Sweet with Uncles Austin and others

Tower Colliery was the last bastion of Welsh Deep Pit Coal Mining. Originally closed by the tories like all the other collieries, the miners used their redundancy pay-out money to buy their own pit back and continued to work it as a profitable mine, which they did!

At 17:22 as you said "Don't actually no where the pit is though" you were standing on top of the shaft.

I live less than 30 minutes from here I will have to check it out. Any advice for someone who's not an explorer?

Well firstly, be careful, these places can be extremely dangerous, secondly I was told after we visited to avoid coming down the driveway as there is a cctv camera that apparently works. Safety is the main thing though always make sure you are safe, with PPE. Bear in mind you do this at your own risk, and in NO way can blame anyone else for your actions, if you do have an accident then cop the blame and dont ruin things for others, take care mate!

Urbalites UK Went there today. It was fascinating. Was very careful and certainly wouldnt hold anybody other than myself responsible. Fantastic experience and found it so interesting. Will definitely be going back better prepared for a second look.

Probably won't stay "untouched" if it's getting plastered all over RUclips...
