Assembly: Intermediate] How to fold an extremely well-locked Stellated Icosahedron (Triakis) from 30 squares of paper no taping or gluing - using very strong origami locks only! This model was inspired by Jo Nakashima's recent Triakis Icosahedron Video: • ORIGAMI TRIAKIS ICOSAH... but there are a couple key attributes that distinguish mine from his. Mine is about 3.4 times bigger in volume and the origami locks that hold the modules together are extremely strong. In the intro I mentioned that my locking mechanism was inspired by Jo Nakashima. It turns out the video of his that I had in mind • ORIGAMI MOVING CUBES (... employs an awesome lock but one that is very different from mine. So, as far as I can tell, I mistakenly attributed my locking mechanism to him. There might still be another lock of his that more resembles mine, but either way, he still inspired this locking mechanism in my thoughts! What that all does mean is that the regular grid version of this lock is waiting to be designed! You'll know what I'll be working on next time I have some time!

I noticed that one of the flaps has closed on the one you're holding on your left hand at 25:29, just like a kusudama. which is pretty cool!

I’m taking a really hard challenge and trying to create a no modular burr puzzle and have it stationary.
I always put off looking for you again....
I first watched you way back when I was 12 or 11.
I remember I was so impressed with the pasta noodle spinny thing and the Amelia air"heart" plane.
I wasted countless sheets of any paper trying to re create what you did in those old videos.
But I grew out of paper craft. Probably because it was too hard for a homeschooled kid of 11/12.
But now I have re visited paper crafts. I am working on a absurdly huge QR code made of paper and tape. I use the same technique you used to make printer paper, square paper.
Perhaps I'll revisit those videos I tried to do.....
I really love it. it's very cool how you make such interesting and complex models. Keep it up! Very cool model too
at the very end after you juggled the 3 models, you can see that 5 corners have come together, pushing the centre down, making a cool pentagon. I feel like there's a new model in there somwhere because currently you can only do it once and there no more room on the inside to do it again.
edit: I was just able to do it 3 times, but some of the points still stick out.

succesfully made it last 2 parts were super hard to interlock bbut after fiddling for 10 15 minutes for the last 2 i managed to make it.thnx for the tutorial.. it takes time but it is worth the efforts

Try to make a spring that repels when we try to push the to ends together like a real spring and it can’t be a thick paper fan cause anyone can make that and this is a challenge do you accept it

Tip that works for me, when your in the middle of making a crease then the one ur following goes to fast just let it be and rewind after making the fold

I've used the sonobe module a lot. Usually sticky notes cuz it's easy and I can donit anywhere. I got big into modular origami because of this. I feel like I've seen this module before. But if memory serves the method of folding it was drastically different. Did you use a new variation of an old module? Or is this a relatively new module that happensnto look the same? Either way. Still doable with a sticky note. So I will definitely be doing this at some point
Nevermind. Kept watching. This module was not the same. At all. Lol. Any modular origami that can be made from a pack of sticky notes is a win in my book

I made Jo Nakashima's version, and I thought the small size looked cool. I'll probably still make your version since the lock also looks neater.
Edit: It's amazing how the units are so different from Jo Nakashima's version, but the results are similar.

Hey Jeremy, couldn't these units be used to construct (almost) any kind of stellated polyhedra? Like if you think about it, every single stellated polyhedra will have two triangle faces next to each other (each triangle is part of a different pyramid) with a "valley" on the shared triangle side, in the same way that these modules are two triangles with a fold down the shared side. The only restriction would be how long the triangles are because you'd need longer triangles for larger polygon faces. I'm really curious to see the largest (or coolest) stellated polyhedra that you can make (if you want to try)! Really clever design, I've been thinking about making a module like this for a while! I've been watching for 6 years and I like to come back occasionally to check out the latest models you design. Keep it up!
Yes, definitely! I once spent about a year trying to make this spikey icosahedron ball from one square no cuts, and ever since I successfully folded it (not published), I've had a special affinity for this shape.
