I’m so glad you interviewed Shine
it's good to hear battlers talking about their contracts now. Really sucks that Shine's been in this situation where he's one of the best battlers out there and he has to focus on all this other bullshit, but hopefully the current and next generation of battlers is more aware of what they're signing and more clear on what they should and shouldn't accept in their contracts. Plus, now that people understand where things went wrong in their own contracts, I'm sure at least some of them will start giving advice about the business side of br to the newer guys they think have a bright future. I'd hope that all of this helps battle rap grow into an industry where leagues and battlers work more hand in hand so everyone does better

Ladies & Gentlemen, this is why you need a manager if you're an artist. If Shine had a manager, he'd likely be a free man right now. Shine is too emotional to be negotiating directly with URL, his manager would be the one commuinicating with URL & maintaning a cool head. Hopefully K-Shine is aware of what he can & cannot say. I’m just glad he’s able to speak his truth about the situation. It seems like their was a disconnect. Once Shine mentioned the monthly payment plan it was a red flag by to me. Like he said he was the only one I heard of with a deal structured like that in battle rap. This will most likely play out in court. Big paper is involved 🤦🏿♂️
He told them to pay him in monthly installments. He said he came from nothing so he didn’t want all the bread up front. Maybe he didn’t trust himself and thought he’d blow through it so he told them to give him a lump sum up front then pay the rest in increments which is smart on his part.
The disconnect is once he started to win these battles they knew he was going to up his price so they told him some of those battles didn’t fully count.
Basically, if they gave him $60k for Daylyt. Daylyt no shows so they had him battle Real Sihk. They told him that Real Sihk battle wasn’t worth $60k on his part so he had to do yet another battle to make up for the 60k. They tried to say he owed them extra battles to make up that money they paid him.

This may end up being a situation where Shine may have to buy his contract out in order to start getting money again. Either that or both sides agree to arbitration, which will set forth parameters, money and conditions which will enable him to get free amicably. The relationship is clearly briken, so battling for URL is out of the window.
He's stuck in a situation where leagues are petty with each other and unfortunately, his talent is being leveraged against him in order to keep him from getting free. URL seems to be steadfast that he do another battle or he will be 'shelved', which substantially hurts his earning power.

I had something similar happen. It was my fault though cause I blurred the line of friendship vs business; when I made a minor mistake and the person reacted on some straight ruthless business vibe. I was like well damn why you acting like this? We been in multiple trench’s and now when a small amount of product gets printed wrong, I’m a villain? Now you gotta speak to your “people’ about coming up with a resolution and you’ll get back to me? That messed me up! I was hurt and took it personal but my son (who is way younger than me) had to remind me “ ain’t no friends in business AND when money is involved.” Maaaaaaaan I learned about 5 years worth business knowledge in those 10 minutes he and I talked. If the contract didn't have specific names on it, it's technically not breached on Shine's end. Daylyt violating his contract doesn't mean Shine's contract is breached.

I have to believe K Shine because of the Eazy the Block Captain situation.
These contracts have wonky timelines, promised battles that don’t happen, they’re open ended, etc.
Contracts that aren’t legal cannot be enforced. And too many battle rappers can’t afford to deal with the threat of lawsuit.
Maybe K Shine is using a press run to pressure URL to drop the contract issue, or do worse.
If these guys are getting paid as much as they claim they are, Then they absolutely can afford to deal with the lawsuits. The problem is 2 fold: Most of these guys lie about how much they actually make, and/or they waste their money.

@@DJYC21215I'm guessing it was a high point where the leagues made an extremely large amount that's out of the normal which has all the battle rappers feeling left out. While the leagues really not making that highest amount most of the time so they can't afford to pay the rappers at the highest margin levels. Maybe their contracts should reflect some percentage increase but that would invoke some type of partnership where the leagues would have to open the books for lawyers from both sides to view. However, the partnership would open the rappers up to taking less if the situation means the league takes a loss at an event. The rappers need a union like the sports leagues have.
All of URL contracts is shaky. They Suge Knighting mfs big time. Bc they know these battlers are fresh of the street and would sign anything if you dangle a little bit of cheese at them. Battlers need good lawyers and collective bargaining.
Doesn't sound like k shine knows if the contract is legal or not. He may, but I'm not sure. Business is business. Getting sued isn't necessarily personal. Everyone takes it personal when money is involved. That's why we have the court system to cut thru all the personal and find a legal resolution. 60 stretched out for more than a year is wild to have in Manhattan, for a star and somebody you regard as a Freelancer but want to Lock them in with noncompete clauses. This is sounding like the Old WWE contracts. I Watched this dude Maven talking about how much he got paid and it's sounding similar, except for his Bag was Different.
