I’m glad you’re working it out! This is a good reminder for everyone with kids and pets. A lot of bites or bad behavior with dogs and kids really is because young kids can often be rough with pets. And while yes the pet needs to be disciplined too and learn not to react aggressively, kids need to be taught to pet gently, don’t pull ears or tails, don’t take a toy or food from their mouth etc. the pets are ultimately animals with behaviors that are normal in their world and some will be more reactive than others.
Agreed! Ultimately Jackie/dogs can also be territorial, which was our case and if blood is shed that can be considered child abuse and imprisonment for parents and putting a dog down, both which we’re grateful didn’t happen ✨✨✨
It's so good to see her back!!! It was very sad when she left because she's a family member, she's been with Maya for so many years. I guess Jackie went for a "gap year abroad" and now she's back to work the land on the countryside 🤣❤️😊

So glad that Jackie is back🤗 I think that the finger ‘bite” was more due to Jackie’ lack of vision. When senior dogs lose some of their vision and hearing you just adjust for that. Not coming up behind her and touching her but come in front of her. Waking her up by blowing gently on her face which will wake her up gently instead of touching to wake up. I have night lights set up around our house so when/ if she gets up in the middle of the night for water she can see better. Usually it’s night vision they have a problem with. Again, so glad that Jackie is back home❤
My Jack Russell, Stickers, was 18 years old when she passed and she too had selective hearing in her older years but that was her only real ailment in all those years. We called her Old Lady Stickers 😂
Maya ❤ You have transformed yourself so many times. You moved halfway across the world, gotten married, started a family, left everything behind, bought an amazing home and so many other accomplishments. She is the last slice of home that you have with you ❤️ she is your comfort, she is here to stay. Maya, you needed this and you guys as a family made the right decision.
Blindness and deafness is common in older Jack Russells. Nutrients make a big difference and the stress of being taken away from her family after so many years would have taken a toll. I really hope it works out and if not I would put her down before moving her again.

This can work out as long as you monitor interactions. Most dogs don’t likely hugs, especially from a toddler. There are a lot of great resources teaching kids and parents how children should safely interact with dogs. There are going to be mishaps. Learn from them and move on. Jackie deserves to live out the remainder of her life with the people she loves, and with time and proper instruction Jackie will grow to love Saga.

I have two chihuahuas, one is super sweet and the other hates everyone. I don't have any children (yet) but I am concerned about introducing children into our household one day. I'm so happy you all are reunited.
You know I broke down crying when I saw the video of you rehoming Jackie not only bc she is your baby and it’s just a hard thing to do in general but I was pregnant at the time and also have fur babies and thought I was going to have to do the same! So I was sobbing watching the video,thinking I’m going to have to give my Ringo away bc he’s pretty aggressive and very territorial. Right now my babe is 8months old and so far Ringo has snapped at my babe once. He’s a chihuahua so luckily the bite was a weak one but I was like OMG my worst nightmare has happened. Right now we just make sure she doesn’t get near him but we’re trying our best to train him to be a good boy so I just pray we never have to rehome him. Seeing this video makes me so happy for you and also gives me hope! ❤
I have an older Chihuahua as well. Her name is Minnie. She had her moments and sometimes she doesn't want to be bothered. However now that my son is 3 almost 4 and Minnie is 11 they love each other. She is his dog and he takes care of her. I think it took some time for her to completely understand that he is a part of her pack now and she is very protective of him.
Welcome back Jackie! My dog passed away in December after 12 yrs w/ me since he was 9 weeks old...through divorce, 8 moves - he was my therapuetic pet and i didnt even know it 😅 lol. I wish i could have him back. Dogs are so special. So glad Jackie gets to be back home to have these precious moments in time with you all.

I promise you, it will all work out. I'm so happy that she gets to spend her golden years with y'all. Just have patience, Jackie is setting her boundaries and watch out for those ques. Respect is all with pups. Also, with senior pups, be more gentle when holding them, walking them etc. so make sure Saga does respect her boundaries. My senior pups have a stroller now lol.
Dogs usually growl or bark when actually biting and mostly give a warning. I don’t think Jackie was aggressive I think it sounds like a food related over enthusiastic grab. I do think you can make it work and yes I agree, Saga needs to be told and learn. So happy to hear you have her back.
You got this! You already monitor them closely. Never let her feed her or hug her too closely/ tightly or put her face to hers, grab or approach from behind as she’s going blind and deaf. Saga can do more damage then Jackie ever could but Jackie knows how to not go all out in defense. Nips will happen but nothing likely too major. It’s pretty easy once you get those things covered. Things are easier once Saga gets older. I’d say the rules will relax as they get older but these are Jackie’s last years. My chihuahuas all had a sudden decline in sight and hearing and mobility in their last 3-5 years just like Jackie. Enjoy this time and soak up the memories watching Saga grow and Jackie move through her golden years back with her family. New parents being afraid and stressed is one of the number one reasons dogs in particular small dogs end up in shelters. It’s not as hard as it seems and y’all are proving that.
