Hey, this is Dan from SoCal! This really is truly a great dive video. Awesome camera work, music, editing, diving, spearing, and conditions. Nice selection of California fish, too. I wish there were a freedive spearfishing show in CA. Like HSD (Hawaii Skin Diver). I used to dive a lot in when I lived in Hawaii with guys that have been doing it their whole lives and they dive like this. The breath hold is all about the calm and focus. The fish and mammals can tell when you are not in your element. It helps to have good dive partners, too. I gotta start spearing again! :D
I made fish tacos. It was super white meat, like halibut. I like to cut it into small cubes and cook it slowly on a pan. After the fish is about 1/2 way cooked, I stir the meat and grate some cheese over the top...like a little bit of Tascano w/ cracked pepper. You can season it however you would like to & it's good as plain fillet too.
I've heard stories of some seals going berzerk. I have one friend that gets freaked out when seals are around...and the seals go straight for him. Sometimes, when I'm trying to be stealth, they blow my cover...otherwise, I don't mind them. Thanks Tyler that means a lot that it's your new favorite video!!
Hi JDHACE, We are about 6 hours south of Sac...in Ventura, CA. You might want to try diving in Pacific Grove or Carmel... about 3 hour drive. If you are doing an overnight trip then this would be a fun place to spearfish.
Thanks ***** ! I spearfish with David a lot and it's easy for me to anticipate his next move...making it easier for me to get in position for the best angle.
Angel shark is tasty! It's tricky filleting them but well worth it. One of our well known restaurants Ventura use angel shark for their fish and chips. It's delicious with a batter. The song is by Modest Mouse, called "Custom Concern".
Great video! I usually dive the Palos Verdes area and I'll be lucky if I ever get vis like that. I would be willing to take a drive to Ventura for a dive...
Hi George, I have only taken a two angel sharks. I haven't perfected the technique for filleting, but I'm happy with the amount of fillets that came off this one and it was tasty!
Great video I too get freaked y seals had one bite my fun in la jolla.. If you ever come to la jolla or sandiego area contacts me I live down here and know so good spots.
Hey Matt thx for the vid, Dana point ?I am an east coast spearo, I used to live in west coast, speared in the bay, sandiego Lajolla,Dana point...any how, i never speared the fish on 3:49 what was it called ?
Cool video! how do you filet angel sharks?? I don't shoot them anymore I feel too much goes to waste..plus I already bent too many knives trying to do it !
Awesome footage, super clear water for CA! How's Angel shark taste? Never thought of eating one since they are a considerably rare find in CA. Surprised you got so close to the Garibaldi, those guys are usually aggressive!
Im in SoCal. Would love to see you do this in real life! Ive got a camo wetsuit, I just surf in it haha. It would be awesome to film you with my GoPro. I was wondering, would It be legal to go out on a paddle board and fish off of it with rod and reel? Thanks a lot!
Seen this vid a ton of times and it's still by far my favorite spearo vid on RUclips
