Xu Xin had to be more aggressive. When he realized that, it was far too late. Maybe he was afraid of FZD. In some points deciding to win over the crowd rather than the point. Very unfortunate for such a gifted player to be so laid-back. TOO laid-back.

+John Stefanov Word, he often tries to look cooler than play to win. He mentions it in one of his interviews that it is one of his biggest weakness as a player. Indeed a waste of potential especially since he is able to play better under pressure compared to other CNT players.

FZD beats Xu Xin convincingly at last. The other times were more or less of some flukes, but this is a milestone for the over-achieving youth player.

Does anyone notice how much sidespin Fan Zhendong put on that backhand flick at 4:09? Incredible reflexes by Xu Xin to even return that!

Wow, amazing to see Fan take it even though he was clearly off this tournament, mentally and a bit physically. Some amazing and fun points to watch here, and even though it was another all-Chinese final I enjoyed it (could've used some more pumped-up emotion as usual). I think Adam's new favorite commentator word is "mis-hit." He's a nice guy but God I cannot stand his commentary, it really annoys me especially when he yells the same stuff and goes crazy like a biased fan.

Fan Zhendong está imparable, en un año será el número 1 a nivel TC, nadie lo podrá parar

Fan was quite "blocky" at the beginning, but once he became more aggressive, Xu's backhand was utterly crushed. Even though he used plenty of long serves in the last set, it wasn't enough to beat Fan.

I always have lots of confidence in Xu Xin. In terms of ability he can certainly beat Fan Zhendong. But Gosh I have to say Xu Xin played so horribly this time that it was unbearable for me to watch. This is another major loss against Fan Zhendong. I guess Xu Xin is after all not that interested in playing singles in Olympics. This kind of performance will not get him anywhere in the fierce competition within the chinese national team. Maybe he's already thinking of quitting. Disappointing.

+meiyou Xu Xin has a few weaknesses. It takes a few games for most players to notice them and attack accordingly.
Even Ma Long never lost to Xu Xin since the beginning of 2014, and the same is happening with FZD

Good match but I'm more grateful for the commentator. Anybody know who he is? I'm glad the old dude who keeps saying 'we love it' is gone. I mean I hope he is.

+Zhe Feng The king of lobbing is J.M.Saive, but also good in this was Michael Maze, Waldner etc. XX is also good.

A non-TT-Player will never understand what quality this match had. I think that is also one reason why TT is filmed from wrong angle nowadays. The normal person thinks in 2D on TV and wouldn´t get it. I´m in favor to change rules to a 3 cm higher net!! The sport is too fast!!

It's not that XX wasn't trying. In the last 2 sets you can see - from his body language and facial expressions - that an unpleasant fact has just dawned on him. FZD is now the better player. I think that's 3 defeats in row to FZD. Not just luck.
