I'll agree on that. XX is absolutely amazing these days. FZD is too. I think that Ma's frustration comes from the days where he could dominate both of them. They both have accelerated and have become much stronger than a few years ago. The dragon will need to work on new strategies and tools to beat them. Not an easy task.
No you guys are missing Adam's point, Ma long made a Chen Wexing impression display of anger. We know Chunqin was frustrated but he definitely didn't throw that racket the way he wanted to as we have seen others done but it was more of a gentle toss what do you think would've been the penalty if he did what Ma was about to do?

The CNT is conservative in this regard, they sent ZJK to Rio in 2016 even if Fan Zhendong already delivered better results than him. The second spot will either be Xu Xin or Fan Zhendong. I'd love Xu Xin being chosen but I think they will go with FZD because XX lost to a foreigner (Simon Gauzy) at the last major tournament (WTTC 2019).
I think last year. Ljy beat ml and fdz in the same t2 tournament. Both were frazzled and frustated by the end of the matches. Not used to losing to teenager!
XX was amazing in this final, ML, too. ML just delivered a great fight against Dima 4 hours before the final and was totally exhausted. Nevertheless ML gave his best in the first 3 sets. His best form is coming back.
Xu Xin looks stronger than ever. Those backhands were really impressive. I've never seen him use it so much. The last set was a gimmie from Ma Long. You know Ma Long has resigned when he starts doing backhands serves.

I agreed with you, XX playing style is so powerful, and so so fun to watch, the only TT player in the world play like this, simply beautiful ! Having said that, such playing is physically demanding i think, i hope XX physical can hold on until olympics.

Penhold is so 1 dimensional. The spins you create if you mastered it are unreadable just like how xu xin does it but it takes some intense dedication, focus and lateral movement just to play the perfect penhold.
Xu xin deserves it but I don't belive he will get a shot hes only a year younger than ma, the CNT will send Ma due to past achivements and fan will be sent as the second player. I don't belive CNT would send 2 players who will soon drop in ability. CNT is always investing in its future. Only way xu xin goes is if ma long loses a couple of times to non chinese players , however no foriegn player can deal with ma long's playstyle.
I think MA long and xu com surely will play in Olympics,and if I was one of the CBT I won't be sure of what fan will do in the Olympics because of his history against the European players.
@@kareemmohamed5121 Xu Xin lost to lost to jun mizutani during 2016 team event in the olmpics Xu Xin was meant to be in his prime at the time, CNT is far harsher in losing during big tournaments such as this compared to pro tours. Fan recently stepped up when Ma long lost during the recent world cup and beat harimoto in the final who had defeated Ma long. Fan's condition has been good in general for a long time, he's the only player to have never lost to timo boll, he recently lost to Dima and this will go against him but Fan is the future of CNT, having someone with Olympic singles experience is a big advantage for future Olympics(for nerves of the entire team)Whereas Xu xin is fast reaching retirement age. Fan's condition would have to drop alot for him to lose his olympic ticket, if he takes a couple more losses to foreign players it could happen but I don't think he will. I do believe that Xu xin would have the lowest chance of losing to a foreign player, but other factors are considered. Ma long's condition would have to drop ALOT for him to lose his ticket, zhang jike(due to past achievements) was selected for 2016 olympics despite his condition at the time being unstable compared to other top CNT members.

Probably, we have had too many in the past few Olympics. In fact the most popular athletes are the ones who didn't get medals but enjoyed the game: for example, Yuanhui Fu. Agree that TT is really a big ideal for this country as the national game. Just hoping that over the years of changes, future players like XX can get their opportunity not only for getting the medals but more importantly showing the whole world the arts of the game.
While everyone is shocked by Xu Xin's behind-the-back shot, I actually find Xu Xin's RPB much more impressive. It is the consistent RPB that fills the hole in Xu Xin's tool set, and makes him very hard to beat even for someone as amazing as Ma Long. Notice what happens at 5:17, after a few touch shots, Xu Xin stepped back to the backhand corner, but used powerful RPB to start attacking. He would have tried to force himself to use the forehand a few years back. But now he does not need to do that, and leaves little space for opponents to attack his wide-angle forehand. At 5:33, Xu Xin got a bit lucky with the net ball, but continued to use RPB in the next few touches. Notice he has variations of RPB now. Sometimes he does defensive soft RPB. This is one step closer to Wang Hao (although still long long way to go...).
I really hope Xu Xin gets a spot on the Olympics singles roster. He's reached a point of mental maturation and has had Olympic experience. If he gets to go to the Olympics, it might be his only shot at an Olympic singles medal as is. And if Ma Long can go again, he might have a chance at a double grand slam! In my opinion, Fan Zhendong can be a team player and gain experience to mature more mentally too. Plus, he's young and has more time to become even better. Although it'd be best if all three were allowed to play singles.

I dont know... Right now it is looking like Wang Chuqin is quite comparable to Ma Long, Fan Zhendong is a completely different beast but Wang seems to really follow the form of Ma Long but also has the cabability of an incredible backhand and chiquita! But Fan is still my favorite behind Xu Xin.

Вопрос Игры Ма в этой игре мог быть в двух аспектах. Первый - скрытая травма. Второй - Сю переломил запланированную тактическую игру Ма ещё в первом сете, но в рейтинге он ничего не терял, отдав игру Сю становился номером 1, Фан терял очки, Ма это было выгодно тактически, это один из вариантов. Xu Xin is the real combination of Ma Lin and Wang Hao. I think Xu Xin as of now is the most complete penholder I've seen. Though, I still think Ma Long in his best form is the most complete table tennis player ever.
Binh Bui Nothing wrong with backhand serve, just that it has a little more side spin and less back spin than a forehand serve. Usually these advanced players can easily detect this.
Ma Long has very high standards for play and he demands a lot from himself. When there is so many stupid mistakes I can totally understand his anger yet he play against a friend and should be happy , more positive attitude , when you play with less tension and a bit more joy you can achieve more flexability and wont be affected mentally by casual unforced error or opponent luck .

The rules of the Olympic games is very unfair. Now one of Xu Xin, Ma Long, Fan Zhendong, all close to their peak, can't play in the singles. That's a shame.
Jerry Hsu Ma Longs peak was in 2011, 2015 and 2017. Definitely not now, and I don’t think he will get to that level ever again. Ma Long can still win against all foreigners except Lin Yun Ju and Harimoto so for the olympics he would still be a good choice. The best choice would be Fan Zhendong and Xu Xin in my opinion.

Xu Xin really earned the win in that tight first game. He refused to be pinned on the backhand. Hit great RPB shots and his forehand loop is simply peerless. So spinny, so hard to control. Since Xu was in such good form, he was able to stay with Ma Long, who hasn't peaked yet. Last game, when 0-3 down, Ma Long didn't really try. But that's okay, Ma will be back.
Even though you’ve lost ma long, I’ll be still standing by your side. To me you are still the greatest table tennis player. For xu xin, he is going to become olympic gold medal winner.

Xu Xin outperforms in all most top spin rallies from no short distances. If in the past time, Ma Long can gained weakness of Xu Xin backhand, then now Xu Xin backhand is no longer weakness. Xu Xin is now the most possible table tennis player, who can realize new level of world tabe tennis techniques. He should be nolazy to run and RUN IN LOWER POSES, even though running in low pose requires more physical strength. He should be no lazy to actively move to noclosed distances to play his notorious topspins instead of counters in any balanced rallies. Maybe, Xu Xin is a milestone example to know whether chinese very specific invention of penholder style should continue.
I disagree, that first game was 🔥🔥 and showed us all as to how both of them are true titans of the game. Ma Long has come back 0-3 down to win 4-3 before in Pro matches. It was just not his day because he was frustrated he wasn't getting points and wasn't able to analyse the situation. Xu Xin shows higher techniques, he clearly dominated in 2nd game. in the 1st and 2nd games, Ma Long still did not frustrate, Ma Long really played his best in 2 first games, but Xu Xin outperforms. You can see that Ma Long could not withstand in topspin rallies against Xu Xin, so Ma Long is often forced to do simple counters. @@abstractexchange5057 While I'm a penholder myself and while it is true that Malong struggles with XXs spin variation most of the times and this may or may not have been the reason for the loss. Because Ma long has shown in his past his ability and control of the ball in different situations. The main reason for this loss is mainly being out of position and that is due to his left knee injury. You can see most of his points just leaning in his right feet and trying to avoid leaning in his left feet at all. He wasn't doing much counter looping, he was just trying to counter with blocks, spins and counter drives. Him "not trying" hard is definitely a sign that he already reached his physical limits. Also flatter trajectory doesn't mean the ball is less spinnier as spin increases the speed of the ball as well. If you play table tennis you know that you control the trajectory of the ball to control the effectiveness of ball landing, timing and positioning.

Xu xin deserves it but I don't belive he will get a shot hes only a year younger than ma, the CNT will send Ma due to past achivements and fan will be sent as the second player. I don't belive CNT would send 2 players who will soon drop in ability. CNT is always investing in its future. Only way xu xin goes is if ma long loses a couple of times to non chinese players , however no foriegn player can deal with ma long's playstyle.
I think MA long and xu com surely will play in Olympics,and if I was one of the CBT I won't be sure of what fan will do in the Olympics because of his history against the European players.
@@kareemmohamed5121 Xu Xin lost to lost to jun mizutani during 2016 team event in the olmpics Xu Xin was meant to be in his prime at the time, CNT is far harsher in losing during big tournaments such as this compared to pro tours. Fan recently stepped up when Ma long lost during the recent world cup and beat harimoto in the final who had defeated Ma long. Fan's condition has been good in general for a long time, he's the only player to have never lost to timo boll, he recently lost to Dima and this will go against him but Fan is the future of CNT, having someone with Olympic singles experience is a big advantage for future Olympics(for nerves of the entire team)Whereas Xu xin is fast reaching retirement age. Fan's condition would have to drop alot for him to lose his olympic ticket, if he takes a couple more losses to foreign players it could happen but I don't think he will. I do believe that Xu xin would have the lowest chance of losing to a foreign player, but other factors are considered. Ma long's condition would have to drop ALOT for him to lose his ticket, zhang jike(due to past achievements) was selected for 2016 olympics despite his condition at the time being unstable compared to other top CNT members.
We dont care for the gold medal but CNT do and they really do. IMO, Ma Long & Fan Zhendong will be selected for singles
@@dattannguyen4093 maybe... But i can tell you that common Chinese people are not that focusing on the medals like before... especially the younger gen. Probably, we have had too many in the past few Olympics. In fact the most popular athletes are the ones who didn't get medals but enjoyed the game: for example, Yuanhui Fu. Agree that TT is really a big ideal for this country as the national game. Just hoping that over the years of changes, future players like XX can get their opportunity not only for getting the medals but more importantly showing the whole world the arts of the game.
While everyone is shocked by Xu Xin's behind-the-back shot, I actually find Xu Xin's RPB much more impressive. It is the consistent RPB that fills the hole in Xu Xin's tool set, and makes him very hard to beat even for someone as amazing as Ma Long. Notice what happens at 5:17, after a few touch shots, Xu Xin stepped back to the backhand corner, but used powerful RPB to start attacking. He would have tried to force himself to use the forehand a few years back. But now he does not need to do that, and leaves little space for opponents to attack his wide-angle forehand. At 5:33, Xu Xin got a bit lucky with the net ball, but continued to use RPB in the next few touches. Notice he has variations of RPB now. Sometimes he does defensive soft RPB. This is one step closer to Wang Hao (although still long long way to go...).
I really hope Xu Xin gets a spot on the Olympics singles roster. He's reached a point of mental maturation and has had Olympic experience. If he gets to go to the Olympics, it might be his only shot at an Olympic singles medal as is. And if Ma Long can go again, he might have a chance at a double grand slam! In my opinion, Fan Zhendong can be a team player and gain experience to mature more mentally too. Plus, he's young and has more time to become even better. Although it'd be best if all three were allowed to play singles.

I dont know... Right now it is looking like Wang Chuqin is quite comparable to Ma Long, Fan Zhendong is a completely different beast but Wang seems to really follow the form of Ma Long but also has the cabability of an incredible backhand and chiquita! But Fan is still my favorite behind Xu Xin.

Вопрос Игры Ма в этой игре мог быть в двух аспектах. Первый - скрытая травма. Второй - Сю переломил запланированную тактическую игру Ма ещё в первом сете, но в рейтинге он ничего не терял, отдав игру Сю становился номером 1, Фан терял очки, Ма это было выгодно тактически, это один из вариантов. Насчёт диванного теоретика все просто, если вы считаете себя большим практиком - не вопрос. Даю адреса, приезжайте с радостью сыграю с Вами дружескую партию. Правда играю пером правой. Xu Xin is the real combination of Ma Lin and Wang Hao. I think Xu Xin as of now is the most complete penholder I've seen. Though, I still think Ma Long in his best form is the most complete table tennis player ever.

Ma Long has very high standards for play and he demands a lot from himself. When there is so many stupid mistakes I can totally understand his anger yet he play against a friend and should be happy , more positive attitude , when you play with less tension and a bit more joy you can achieve more flexability and wont be affected mentally by casual unforced error or opponent luck .
When I was watching live, I wanna cry for ma long. I want he can win but actually he can't. he can't do his best but he still keep playing on court,here I give the most respect to my Dragon

The rules of the Olympic games is very unfair. Now one of Xu Xin, Ma Long, Fan Zhendong, all close to their peak, can't play in the singles. That's a shame.
Jerry Hsu Ma Longs peak was in 2011, 2015 and 2017. Definitely not now, and I don’t think he will get to that level ever again. Ma Long can still win against all foreigners except Lin Yun Ju and Harimoto so for the olympics he would still be a good choice. The best choice would be Fan Zhendong and Xu Xin in my opinion.

@@Hesselaer Harimoto maybe, but Lin Yunju's playstyle determined that he will lose against Ma Long. Not as good in control over the ball, not as good as seeking chances to open, and not even as good on counter loops
The same applies to women as well, some of the best never get to compete in the Olympics.

Xu Xin really earned the win in that tight first game. He refused to be pinned on the backhand. Hit great RPB shots and his forehand loop is simply peerless. So spinny, so hard to control. Since Xu was in such good form, he was able to stay with Ma Long, who hasn't peaked yet. Last game, when 0-3 down, Ma Long didn't really try. But that's okay, Ma will be back.
Even though you’ve lost ma long, I’ll be still standing by your side. To me you are still the greatest table tennis player. For xu xin, he is going to become olympic gold medal winner.

Ma Long really did his best, but Xu Xin is unstopable. After 2nd game, Ma Long felt the Xu Xin supremacy ! The frustrating behaves of Ma Long are not the reason of losing ! Xu Xin outperforms in all most top spin rallies from no short distances. If in the past time, Ma Long can gained weakness of Xu Xin backhand, then now Xu Xin backhand is no longer weakness.
Xu Xin is now the most possible table tennis player, who can realize new level of world tabe tennis techniques. He should be nolazy to run and RUN IN LOWER POSES, even though running in low pose requires more physical strength. He should be no lazy to actively move to noclosed distances to play his notorious topspins instead of counters in any balanced rallies.
Maybe, Xu Xin is a milestone example to know whether chinese very specific invention of penholder style should continue.
I disagree, that first game was 🔥🔥 and showed us all as to how both of them are true titans of the game. Ma Long has come back 0-3 down to win 4-3 before in Pro matches. It was just not his day because he was frustrated he wasn't getting points and wasn't able to analyse the situation. Xu Xin was able to find out his weakness and knew he won the game before he actually won it

Xu Xin shows higher techniques, he clearly dominated in 2nd game. in the 1st and 2nd games, Ma Long still did not frustrate, Ma Long really played his best in 2 first games, but Xu Xin outperforms. You can see that Ma Long could not withstand in topspin rallies against Xu Xin, so Ma Long is often forced to do simple counters. Besides, Xu Xin improves his backhand, and Ma Long is no longer better in backhand against Xu Xin.
Xu Xin sometimes loses by the most reason that Xu Xin was fall into short distances with only counter playing. But when Xu Xin is nolazy to move to noshort distances, then he dominates with his topspin from both forehand and backhand. He win Lin Gaoyoun 4-0 in the semi-final too.
Ma Long strokes are very straight ! Ma Long can make very devastating topspin, but ONLY WITH HIGH BALLS. So Ma Long topspin is straight high speed. We say that high balls are easy cases. The more difficult cases are low balls. In these difficult cases with low balls, Xu Xin outperforms by his topspin. Of course, Xu Xin can make fast topspin in cases of high balls too.

@@abstractexchange5057 While I'm a penholder myself and while it is true that Malong struggles with XXs spin variation most of the times and this may or may not have been the reason for the loss. Because Ma long has shown in his past his ability and control of the ball in different situations. The main reason for this loss is mainly being out of position and that is due to his left knee injury. You can see most of his points just leaning in his right feet and trying to avoid leaning in his left feet at all. He wasn't doing much counter looping, he was just trying to counter with blocks, spins and counter drives. Him "not trying" hard is definitely a sign that he already reached his physical limits. Also flatter trajectory doesn't mean the ball is less spinnier as spin increases the speed of the ball as well. If you play table tennis you know that you control the trajectory of the ball to control the effectiveness of ball landing, timing and positioning.
Ma long look like he lost weight especially in his legs , hope he gets to top form by tokyo
All this in preparation for Tokyo, he has many titles as it is, but to win two Olympic gold medals in a row will put him beyond reach.

Xu Xin played insane in this tournament. He's has become next level training under Wang Hao. It wasn't Ma Long's day but he deserves a lot of praise for beating an inspired Dima earlier.
