You need to read up on your fashion history. Every single detail in this collection is PURE YSL! It's just screams YSL! You couldn't be any more YSL than this!
i think you might be thinking of Lanvin's fall 2011 collection. i was thinking that too but i went back and looked at it and seems that it was the hats that made it remind me of lanvin. but some of the black outfits with the pants did seem to be cousins with some of the outfits in this show.
How many of you 'FASHION CRITICS' own or will EVER own a Saint Laurent piece? If you do NOT consume it, the next best thing to do is look the other way & keep quiet. Pret-a-Porte will bear the new logo SAINT LAURENT period. & the references to Los Angeles, believe it or not are fully compatible with what you saw on that runway. You NEED to have lived in LA in order to understand & LOVE this place as Slimane does and conveys in this collection. Los Angeles a la Parisienne! BRAVO!!
well ppl are kinda unhappy with the change of the name which I understand, but in the sixties, the label was simple Saint Laurent...it wasn't change to "Yves Saint Laurent" until the 70s so I think Slimane is trying to bring back the original aesthetic of the YSL and this debut collection is very indicative of that.
i agree i hate the thought of it being called saint laurent paris...i've always thought yves saint laurent was synonymous with paris so calling it "saint laurent paris" is a bit redundant...redundancy cancels itself out so there are two options leave it as "yves saint laurent" or change it to " " (nothing). some of the trouser outfits at the beginning reminded me of what frida did for gucci not too long ago.
there are some great pieces in this debut.. love the skinny pants with chic short jackets. btw, didnt once betty catroux say that she wore more of TF's YSL, than YSL's YSL? and now this high praise...
I agree they did the same thing with Theirry Mugler changing it to "Mugler". It's like come on enough already. The crazy part is when you go into a store and look at fragrances and cosmetics the names are still the same. I just don't see the point. It's been the same for years. If it's not broke don't fix it.
didn't get it, what Pilati did was far much better, this was a lazy homage to the YSL classics =/ not to mention the already scandal about Slimane being arrogant with the media... Such a bad call for YSL
They may have refined notions of self, that is not to say that it doesn't take concept or vision. Any fashion house would disagree with you. I am not saying that they need dive into the deep end and recreate..I support houses that stay true to themselves..but to stay relevant, they need to take the heritage and turn it into something fresh...which was not done.
People need to stop saying the clothes are nice. Because that doesn't matter. What matters is, for anyone who knows and loves fashion, its about the vision, experimental and concept. If every collection was "nice"...there would not even be an industry..The collection was terrible. Everything was so dated. I can't stop writing about it, its just that terrible.
I think its ironic, Frida Gianini may rip off (not that I have really seen) Hedi's designs, but it sucks that no one sees how Hedi ripped off the equestrian hats from Elbaz 2 season before. & the rocker chic, from Gevinchy Spring of 2008..
He did a great job for his first show. I still long for Pilati though. And I would seriously like to know who approved the name change, bad call and total disrespect to Mr. Sanit Laurent.
This collection is just blah, after all the massive changes and all the secrecy surrounding this debut collection, I expected this collection to be very modern and new, but it's exactly what it was not. It's retro, old and dusty. You can see that he's been out of touch with fashion. He seems to be stuck in his heyday back in the mid 2000's. And from what I've read in Saint Laurent reviews, Mr. Slimane sounds like he's a little too full of himself. I'll still wait for his next collection.
Every fashion house is known for their logo..from LV..to CC..to Gucci..the YSL logo to me is just amazing...why they decided to cut out the L is beyond me..stupid business move..just like when Coke decided to change their recipe...and that blow up in their faces...just like this will...YSL forever!!!
Givenchy, Balmain, even Balenciaga, etc...all ripped off the rocker chic from Hedi in the first place. Ripping off a hat? Seriously? It's just a 70s floppy hat.
It's simply "Saint Laurent" like it used to be not too long ago, you don't pronounce the "paris" just like Chanel puts "paris" under their name but it's not pronounced. It's a much more chic, modern font than the tacky old one and Yves and Hedi were very very close. And you do realize Frida Gianini has been ripping off Hedi's skinny rock n roll suits and looks for years now! More evident in the Gucci menswear. She's not rock n roll at all, she would never come up w that on her own!
Cathy Horyn is right. That was a terrible collection. Its very obvious that he has been out of touch for a long time. 1. Changed name to Saint Laurent, but has large banners outside with the YSL Logo? Don't get it. 2. Collection reminded me so much of the early 2000's...it lacked so much vision. 3. I'd expect to see this at Topshop, not high fashion in the least. Boring boho that all the mass producers imitate. 4. we've seen too many designer do the whole L.A/Paparazzi/Standing layout. BORING!!
when i saw the show i thought "OH! IS SAINT LAURENT FOR H&M"!!!!! the clothes looked stylish but cheap, like if there is no difference between an H&M and YSL vest.... is sad.....
@rvggarcon I gave him some credit on this collection, but nothing after this has been "rocker chic" more like salvation army chic. You really insult Yves, by saying this screams what he did in his time. & it's also an insult & slap to the prestige of YSL. Hedi needs to go.

love this so much,,
great collection
Saw Hedi at a Franz Ferdinand show in August. Love this collection and can't wait to see what he does next.
thanks! finally someone who know's something about hedi and why he renamed the brand...
First collection always play it safe and to the codes of the house, hopefully the collections to come will have more depth and evolution....
thanks for the info
Like it very much!

HEDI FOREVER!!!
did they drop the "Yves", am i behind on the up take?

good pickup. i can imagine her wearing this. or what she has already produced was quite similar.
i agree i hate the thought of it being called saint laurent paris...i've always thought yves saint laurent was synonymous with paris so calling it "saint laurent paris" is a bit redundant...redundancy cancels itself out so there are two options leave it as "yves saint laurent" or change it to " " (nothing).

Every lookbook, blogger fashionista is going to have a heart attack when they see this

The clothes are not YSL, only the label sewn into the clothes.
Feel like rachel zoe collection, all bohemian girls
Still sad about the name change. Gorgeous collection though.
I think it's a great show. People expected fireworks, but seriously, what is new under the sun?

dessert cowboy chic :)

The rocker chic from Givenchy 2008??? Hedi has done it since at least 2001. Ripping off basic wide hats, really??
Let me sum this collection up in two words "Rachael Zoe"!
He did a great job for his first show. I still long for Pilati though. And I would seriously like to know who approved the name change, bad call and total disrespect to Mr. Sanit Laurent.
Well, I wanna be a Saint Laurent-girl next season..

They never changed the YSL logo or got rid of it, they changed the name of the ready to wear line back to what it was originally.
all the model looks like rachel zoe
I could see Rachel Zoe wearing all of this clothes...and that ain't good.
Not to mention, hes really arrogant..and thinks hes better than Raf Simons. Which is not true at all!
Givenchy, Balmain, even Balenciaga, etc...all ripped off the rocker chic from Hedi in the first place. Ripping off a hat? Seriously? It's just a 70s floppy hat.
muy retro y no hay color

Balance has collapsed.
These style are the very "cheap witch "!!
