- This is my fourth nickel hunt and 5th box. I continue my quest to search 10 boxes before I start populating new albums. I search for old Shield and V nickels, Buffalo, Silver War Nickels, Blazers, Varieties and errors. In the episode the bank shorts me a little bit.
Not too bad. Pretty nice getting both 1938 and 1939,'s. Now to find them with mint marks! Best of luck in your next hunt!
The ‘59 May be a “Black Beauty.”
I agree, it's just not a "beauty".
Will you please explain your theories on metal content and how the coins are separated.
The coins are first mechanically separated by size to determine denomination. Between the hopper and the rolling machine should be a series of filters. The first and most oviouse is a magnet to remove any iron and nickel ie. washers, tokens, foreign (USA nickels are 75% copper so not magnetic). Other filters could include checking the weight or for holes.
