First time watching any of your content. I first heard about hammock camping a few days ago and came here to learn about the Amok hammock since I’m considering purchasing my first one. 54 seconds in, you already had me laughing, then after the “don’t shoot my ass” that sub button got hit!! Love what you’ve got so far and thanks for the honest review on the two models.
Hiii 😃 haha thank you very much 😂🙏🏻 im glad you liked the video. PS there is a new model out now, i havent tried it yet though but after looking at the specs its much like - the “new” model in this video. Though they fixed the zipper problem, as it now goes both ways 😀👍🏻
@@ExpeditionHawk Awesome, they must have had people saying they liked the two way zipper better, so it’s good that they went back to what worked. Do you recommend using the Amok pad or did you get an off brand pad?
@@TreasuringLife true! No i actually prefer another brand for pads, not that amoks aint good. They are. But for my use, i just prefer another brand. The expeds 😁🙏🏻
@@ExpeditionHawk well thank you so much for the info...It’s greatly appreciated! I’ll probably be getting the new 5.0 instead of the UL since I’ll mainly be Island hopping on my Big Yak (Ocean Kayak) or my new Sea Doo Fish Pro jet ski (and that thing has TONS of storage). Again, I appreciate the laughs along with great info and I’ll be watching from now on. Best of luck to you!
I have the new version.... The bug net has not been an issue because I don’t always deploy it. When I have, I agree with your points, it can be tricky to zip up....also if I’m in a hurry to get out having the option to unzip pin both directions would be nice. All in all, the wider, more spacious interior far out way the bug net inconveniences. Having separate straps is nice for keeping tree sap out of the stuff sack too. I simply remove them and store in a different bag. All said, I really enjoy my newer version but the older one has its appeal too...
Your right. Havin the straps detatched from the hammock itself has its advantages. And the new model is definetely more spacious inside which is super nice and cozy. How do you feel about the centerline bungeecord and the little hook part? Or do you simply dont use it?
Expedition Hawk I like the centerline but it does have the awkward attachment issue at the feet. Which compounds the problem zipping the net over it....When I have used the bug net I have attached the centerline to the ridge line directly and not the foot end. That keeps the net up more than if not there and I avoid the awkward balance act at the other end. I still feel it’s a simple compromise for the space compared to the older foot box style. My only real issue is the hammock contact at the ridge line (top of shoe box and bug net storage). There is a hard piece of (plastic I think) sewn there to protect the fabric from ridge line chafing. This piece is too small and not centered very well....as such it creates a snag point for the bug net as I zip it over. Currently I use a piece of irrigation tubing instead of a stick to hold the head and foot end up. Waiting to see what Amok has designed for this but I’m considering attaching the tube inside the top of the shoe box and eliminate the plastic tab....we’ll see... for now, I feel as you, like this is the best, most comfortable way to sleep outside. 👍🏼
@@maxwellmark i Will make a video Soon about tips and tricks with both models, i Will Find a solution in the meantime the minor issues with Them both 😁✌🏻
In the beginning I couldn’t help thinking how cuddly you look with that shirt! I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants to give you a big hug ☺️ I just got my new hammock and I can’t wait to try it out. Nashville, TN 💖
Hahaha.. Hi Ashley. First off, sorry for the late reply ive been very hung up at work lately cause of theese crazy covid times. Thx so much haha, Well im always Reading for a hug! Let me know how you like your new hammock :P Greetings from Denmark
Thanks for the video. I have the 2019 Draumr XL model and only use the centre line from the head to ridge line, I don't bother running it to the foot end. I have added some paracord to the bug net zips to make them easier to pull round. I also normally only put a stick at the head end and don't bother with the foot end. I like the fact you can hang things from the ridge line beneath the net. My boots are too big for the 'shoe box' I use it to stuff my clothes in, my boots are hung outside the hammock on the ridge line by their laces. I wouldn't have the stuff sack attached permanently and I believe they have altered this now. I love using the Draumr Xl and sleep very well in it. Cheers!
I'm 5'10" and my Draumr is just right, if I was any taller I would want a longer version. The cool thing about Amok hammocks is that you can sleep like you normally do at home, back, stomach, side, curled up, stretched out, even spread eagle. I keep the mattress inflated firmer than I do when I lay on the ground keeping it relatively flat in the hammock. After a few nights, you learn to dial it in the way you like, head-up, level or even down. Best sleep I have ever had in any hammock. Couple that with the versatility of using it as a recliner makes it my go-to sleep system... when I have something to hang it from. - photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMDvMc_qsdo_uprkywj9Fai124KsP06VfpNxDlP photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMm8DSN2wMBfgYcQv4-ejseCFXniVaiEp1q_79x photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNIm5O_tOXP5ZeMSdztelZ2-SI2P5R-1T-EaFEs photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipO3pGfYiUF1bkImu6CfQBqXTB_MlPfAR_K8gSQQ photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNH67lOL9XMfMTIKkrw3PVgn_-1Z7WKJFC549Sx
I was going to upgrade , I think I will stick with my old version I love it and it is great . Thanks for your time and information it was a lot of help .
Hi Expedition hawk, I actually got 2 hammock Draumr , thanks to your previous video. I think it will be great for motorcycle and car camping. Thanks for pointing out the pros and cons of each . It will be helpful for my setting up. Thanks for sharing .I have already subscribed and got the bell notification. Have a great New year . Best wishes from Canada😉
Hi Rick. Thx my man. Yeah its perfect for that matter, i drive vanlife Adventure trips also, and i also ride a KTM 690 enduro r. The amok is perfect to bring on such trips. I assume you have the new model then 😁? Happy newyear and greetings from Denmark

Wow man thank u so much for the kind Words 🙏🏻 im glad it could help you or bring you some usefull info. Thats why i started making videos, cause i simply just love the outdoors, and Adventure, and i wanted to share it with people who love the same - or maybe inspire someone who think about it but havent done it yet. And also to share my experiences through the years with good advice in certain products and so on. So it defenitely makes me happy whenever something i made, was helpfull in some way to someone 🙏🏻 and thank you for the sub 🔥🔥
I still have the 2.0 version, and just used it last week. I'm not a big fan of the lack of room in the foot box, but I still love it overall. I guess I can't go wrong no matter how I upgrade...
Jamie Vann its true. The footbox can be a little annoying but is also a strong side if the hammock is tilting too much. Then ur bag dont end up on the ground. I would say both hammocks have their strong sides. I love both 😍
Thank you for the video! It’s great! I wish you would showed how well they pack, their size, weight, and I am eager to see detail about the mattresses.
Hi Zeqi. You are most welcome and thank you for watching. Its true, they pack down very well. I actually did make a video where you see it packed down. And tips and tricks for amok hammocking. I am 6-4 and have the XL version. I put a 4 foot glow in the dark micro line on the bugnet zipper and I can zip all around whil laying down. No leg crossing, no yoga pose... I cannot get the foot and head stcks to stay attached. Im going to try a carbon arrow cut to size...
Sod’s law. Ordered the new Amok yesterday to replace my old one, then saw this video today😜 My old Amok is the version 3.0 but has a strap as the ridge line rather than the Amsteel cord. Looking forward to testing the new model. Thanks for your review 👍
Haha😂 you Will be fond of your new draumr, the first thing you Will notice besides the color difference - is that it is much more roomy inside especially in the elbow Atea and foot area. And that it feels longer (which IT is). Its like being in the Rolls Royce of the AMOKs, its just that bugnet thats a little annoying and the balance thing when putting Centerline cord on. But stay times brother, I will release a tips and tricks for the AMOKs very soon. Which pad do you use? Thx for the comment and sub 😁✌🏻💯
Expedition Hawk, I have an exped down 7 and an exped Synmat 9LW. I tend to use the Synmat mostly👍 I get out in the hammock at least 2 or 3 times a month and use it all year round.

This was a great review! I have the old 3.0 and I was wondering just how much different it is from the new version. I am considering getting a new version also. Thank you for your report.
Terrific, real-world review of the pros and cons. Thanks so much! One question: you mentioned something about a stick pocket, but I'm not sure I understood what you meant. What do you do with that pocket?
levyj413 thank you man 😃🙏🏻 well stickpockets are a small pocket in head and footend. Where u take a stick / branch and put them ind the pockets to stretch out the hammocks end walls. Watch my video on tips and tricks for amok hammocks, there i show the stickpockets more in depth 😃🙏🏻
great review video - thank you. I have both the 4 and the 5XL (no 3) but just got the 4 today (got it really cheap so bought it as a possible backup or loaner) and was wondering what all the differences were. Other than the bugnet - which they made much better IMO on the 5 for sure I couldn't really figure out what those differences were - so now I know as I have been in my 5 many times and absolutely love it. Now that I know about the bugnet I have some hack Ideas I may try with it once I get it hung and lie in it for a while - AGAIN THANKS - oh and if you figure out what causes the stains or how to get them out - please if you would let me know. I don't see any on mine now but if it is a problem I sure would appreciate knowing how to get them out.
That sounds awesome man 🙏🏻 i better try the 5 soon 😂 i sure will let u know when i try to remove the stains, and let me know how the hack turns out for you 😁
Great video comparison. I have several of the 3.0 with older Bugnet and love them. I might get a new version just to try out. Maybe I’ll sell one of my blue ones to buy a new one? But I’m thinking the ones I have are great and the new upgrades aren’t that big of a difference that I’ll stick to what I have.
Thank you my Friend. Yes true, If you have several i think i would swap One of them for a new One..just to have both - as they both have cool parts about Them. 😁🤟🏻 But defenitely if i had the 3.0, and was thinking if It was Worth buying the new one. I dont think that would be an easy answer. Really depends on which elements One values more over others i would say. 😁🙏🏻
Very good review! 👍 I have the original 3.0 and was thinking of upgrading but after watching this I’ll stick with the one I have. I do like the shoe box compartment on the new version though
Preference includes the defects that suits you. That is perfection. If you broaden periphery you can not have enclosure of the bug net in a single motion. If you shorten the length you lose balance gaining less weight. Pros and cons coexist,They are not accumulate separatlytheir number ignoring each other.
Für the bug net to zip it a bungee cord helps at the zipper. For the little really silly little clip you could use a small key ring. Which makes it also very much easier :) these Tipps I had from another video here on RUclips. Maybe this helps you a bit too :)
I've not seen the Draumr hammocks so my questions may sound stupid, but first, what makes the older model less roomy to the sides? Does it have a shorter ridge line than the new one? If so, could you make it wider by changing out the ridge line with a longer one? Then, this may sound like a special kind of really bad stupid, but can you use either model with your head at the foot end? On the new one that would fix your problem with the bug net because the last part of the zipper would be where your head is making it easer to connect the tiny hook and it would give you the ability to open the net for a clear view. On the older model, if you could sleep with your head at the foot end it seems it would tip the balance in your favor to keep your head elevated more, and you could then use a pillow or something take advantage of the foot box. Am I crazy or could this work?
FIS681 its a combination what makes it wider. Its both that the sides are steeper on the old model, and theres less fabric also, and its possible that the ridgleline is shorter on it maybe also - but it would defenitely be unrecommendable to try and change the ridgeline as it is installed and stitched in a certain way. Regarding laying with your head in the footend, its not possible - ive tested it on both models 😁 the balance point are made to lay in one direction only. So the balance is totally off if you switch end. 😁🙏🏻
Packing process of them are actually identical, but i Will though within the next week or so make a video with tips and tricks for amok hammocking. And in that video there Will also be packing down and setup 😁😁🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 so stay tuned my Friend. And thx for the comment 😊🔥

Enjoyed the video. Your sense of humor is great. I couldn’t agree with you more on the difficulty with the bugnet and sticks in the footbox. I actually use a couple poles that at least don’t break. I have the XL version and noticed that the pad bunches up a bit right near the waist when trying to sleep. Have you noticed any issues like that with yours?
Thank you very much Mr balas 😁🙏🏻 Well, I actually never had that issue 🤔 I only tried that happen a couple of times, in the Old model - if i lifted Up my body around waist area. (Example: if I put my hands on the pad while turning around to stomach and released my bodyWeight from the pad to much). But it was very easy back again in normal position when i put my bodyweight om the pad again. So It didnt bother me too much. But that havent really happened with the new model. I though think if yours does it, maybe its because its the XL version? But what kind of pad do you use in it? Because that can also be a factor i think
it seem to me that a 4 point suspension would make sense on this hammock to help reduce tipping.......... a single strap at each tree, with a full wrap, each end going to it's own connection point..... the width of the tree trunk would reduce the swing / tilt. This could be sucked up to a specific width somewhere between tree and hammock.
Expedition Hawk Good thought.... I’ll drop them a line...... I’m imagining the hang points being either side of the bottom of the corner stowage pockets. It would not be difficult to try with a good sewing machine....
Thank u so much 🙏🏻 im very gratefull and happy when someone likes the videos i make. Ofcourse i can. Do u already own s amok draumr or are u considering buying One or?

Really useful video, entertaining and full of information, Just a quick question "what happens to the hammock if your Air mattress deflates/puncture" It has been known for them to fail haha
Hi Jeff. First off, sorry for the late reply ive been very hung up at work lately cause of theese crazy covid times. Well, if your mattress deflates, the hammock would be unusefull. So you would fix your mattress, with your always brought - patch kit. And if that also, Against all odds Should fail. And youre too far away to get back, without having to spend a night. I as “Emergency” solution, would take Down the hammock, and fold it into a sleeping pad sized shape. And on top put my deflated mat. and use that combination as sleeping pad to get some insulation under my sleeping bag. And then put up the tarp as A frame over the sleeparrangement.
Hey Hawk! Such an amazing and cool video! Do you use the regular or XL version? I’m thinking of buying one, and with my 182 cm is torn between sizes.. thanks in advance and have a fantastic evening!
Thank you man 😁 i use the regular version. But i will say, you could do with the regular. But if u like to have some air around u, i would take the xl. The regular just have some pros over the xl imo 🙏🏻and a good evening to u too 😃
Thank you man 😁🙏🏻 well, i dont own the new generation tarp. But i do know there are some suttle differences. When i get my hands on One ill defenitely make a comparison 🙏🏻
Hi, I have very similar feelings as you, although I only have the old version ... I am not convinced by the new mosquito net that runs over the bug net ... In the old version I can fasten it comfortably, and as you can see in the new one is from this problem. I don't like the new version either functionally or aesthetically. The old version is more compact, it is consistent with the mounting system. The only minus of the old version is the foot box - unfortunately when I lie down, the mattress is arranged in the letter U and kneads the foot. A slight drawback is also the tensioning cable behind the head - when you have a tarpa hammock above the hammock, it is not possible to fasten it to the tree in a horizontal position, you need to give it up. I then pull myself up. .and everything is OK. I love Amok Draumr 3.0 in the old version - it's the best purchase in 2018. Greetings from Poland! Paul
Thank you for a very good and informative video. Have you gotten any responses from Draumr regarding the mosquito net ? Espesially the zipper, that definitely should go both directions.
Terje thank you very much, im happy you liked it 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I have not talked to them about it, but I will probably send them an email about it but i highly doubt someone of their testers havent already told them the same though 😀🙏🏻
@@ExpeditionHawk Just one more little thing. You mention color. I have the old one in green, and was thinking about blue for the new one. I have not seen the new green, but I see in your video they are a little different. If you have any viewpoint on choice of color this I am more than glad to hear. Regarding the mosquitonet-issues I think I might have a couple of ideas for adjustments bur must consider it a little more.
@@ExpeditionHawk Cheers once more. I have mailed Amok and they say it is not possible to mount a double-sided net when the net hangs over the "ridge". I had my first try last night and really enjoy the new one, and definitely agree on your comment on the footbag. The new one is much better. However, it seems the ridge is somewhat lower on the new model. Sitting crosslegged position in the midle of the hammock is not possible without getting the ridge in my head. I am 184 cm. Really annoying.... :-/ Have you noticed the same ? I think it can be solved by shortening the ridge a little, but have written them today about this.
Thank you my Friend 🙏🏻 the Weight is the same. The new model is said to be 1350 grams and the Old model 1340 grams. But when i weighed Them the new model was 1345 and the Old One 1344 so I would argue they are same Weight plus minus a few grams 😁🙏🏻
Köy’mock The expeds are defenitely not a bad choice. I am doing the last nights right now on the synmat, Ive been hanging with the downmat 3 days so now im hanging with the synmat. @@ExpeditionHawk Hey, thanks a lot for Your quick response! Thumb me only saw it today... Anyways, do You have any experiences with the haven hammock, which can be used as tent or hammock?

I also have a Haven tent hammock. Now they are good. Very simple to get up and super comfy. Thanks for getting back to me , stay safe. P.

And there I just bought a pair of very very cheap hiking boots cause my normal boots had exactly just ripped open. So it was actually just a buy I made to use Them One time on my following hike. But it just so happened that they were actually pretty decent for Day hikes. I wouldnt recommend Them for very Long hikes though. But under 20km a Day they are more than fine. It surprised me, as they were very very cheap. The model is Quechua, SH Trek 100M Shark. And I bought them in decathlon ✌🏻
Expedition Hawk Man, Quechua footware are very cheap, but they look pretty good. Like you said, for simple day hikes they would probably be fine. Also, I’d never heard of Decathlon before and it looks like they now have stores in the US. Just checked out their website and they have some very cool gear, so thanks for the heads-up. Im a sidesleeper, and i have a great nights sleep in it, sleeping on my side. It does curve after your body when laying on the side. So its not flat as a board, but neither curved down like a traditional hammock. Its somewhere in between. And the harder you pump up the mat, the flatter the lay. 😀

And I wonder....why do you need to attach the bugstring to the bottom of the hamock?? I do a double loop over the ridgeline and attach it at the beginning, tight and nice with lots of space over my head. For the bugnetzipper, I have attached a 50cm long paracord so that I can open and close the zipper laying down. In the footed I simply use my foot. But, I would prefer that the zipper could go both ways. That's my only con
Your comment has never showed with a notification. Dont know what has happened, so im very sorry for the veeery late reply. But i will defenitely check out your video and thx very much for the info 😀👌🏻 hope you still enjoy your hammock
As I see it, there is no benefits on the 2019 version compared to the newer ones. nothing at all. Except maybe weight, as it seems there's more fabric and construction on the newer ones. The staining though, is eminent. Everything you can do on the old and can't on the newer, is not a constant. It's actually how YOU are able to do things. I actually wished I had both versions, I love the footbox on the old one and the bugnet zipper solution on both. It actually can have two completely separate areas of benefit. But I see a lot here that is personal skills and not limitations on the product.
Hi Umaporn.. First off, sorry for the late reply ive been very hung up at work lately cause of theese crazy covid times. HAHAHAHA.. Yeah thats true :P thx very much for the nice comment.
Well not completely, but it would be a good idea, to unzip it to at least Up to the head end, so when you get back in your hammock you dont accidently crawl in and tearing Up the bugnet. So for best Access you would need to unzip Up to the head end i would say

- photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMDvMc_qsdo_uprkywj9Fai124KsP06VfpNxDlP

I cant see your links though bro?
I was going to upgrade , I think I will stick with my old version I love it and it is great . Thanks for your time and information it was a lot of help .
The Old model is also still a very very good hammock 😁🔥 thank you for your comment, im glad my video helped you 🙏🏻

It will be helpful for my setting up. Thanks for sharing .I have already subscribed and got the bell notification.

Hi Rick.

The slide on the line for the bug net is just for when you have it in the sitting position so it doesn't have to hold a lot of tension
True. But mine has like 10 percent tension haha..but ive switched IT out now the tensioner
New model bug net over ridgeline. Attach a large key ring to the existing ring, tie a larger hook, (or carabiner) to the bungie!
Nice info brother 😃👌🏻 let me know how the sticks work for you?
@@ExpeditionHawk I ended up buying the ultra lightweight XL and bought the foot and head poles they sell.
Sod’s law. Ordered the new Amok yesterday to replace my old one, then saw this video today😜
My old Amok is the version 3.0 but has a strap as the ridge line rather than the Amsteel cord.
I tend to use the Synmat mostly👍
I get out in the hammock at least 2 or 3 times a month and use it all year round.

To 8:40 - put a little keyring in the downring. You will catch it better with the hook.

This was a great review! I have the old 3.0 and I was wondering just how much different it is from the new version. I am considering getting a new version also. Thank you for your report.
Youre very welcome. Yeah i can understand that, i also love both the new and the old model 😍🙏🏻
This is an amazing review. I'm trying to decide between the two, and this helps a lot! Very informative, i like your style sir!

great review video - thank you.
That sounds awesome man 🙏🏻 i better try the 5 soon 😂 i sure will let u know when i try to remove the stains, and let me know how the hack turns out for you 😁
Hawk’s definitely having two person parties inside the Draumr 4.0 😂
Great video comparison. I have several of the 3.0 with older Bugnet and love them. I might get a new version just to try out. Maybe I’ll sell one of my blue ones to buy a new one? But I’m thinking the ones I have are great and the new upgrades aren’t that big of a difference that I’ll stick to what I have.
Thank you my Friend.
Yes true, If you have several i think i would swap One of them for a new One..just to have both - as they both have cool parts about Them. 😁🤟🏻
But defenitely if i had the 3.0, and was thinking if It was Worth buying the new one.
Thank you so much 🔥 Yeah the 3.0 is also an Amazing Piece of gear. Amazing sleep in that thing man 😍 and gotta love that bugnet 😁🙏🏻
Preference includes the defects that suits you. That is perfection. If you broaden periphery you can not have enclosure of the bug net in a single motion. If you shorten the length you lose balance gaining less weight. Pros and cons coexist,They are not accumulate separatlytheir number ignoring each other.
I agree, each One have their advantages. Which really comes down to personal preferences 😊✌🏻
Für the bug net to zip it a bungee cord helps at the zipper. For the little really silly little clip you could use a small key ring. Which makes it also very much easier :) these Tipps I had from another video here on RUclips. Maybe this helps you a bit too :)
Have you tried the 5.0 seems like they fix the bug net and and line issue for you.
😁🙏🏻
great vid! I would have wished to see more of the setup, and takedown, and packing process of both.

New model bug net over ridge line. Get a good stick in foot box and head end and you don’t need that separate line from head to toe over ridge line
I already do exactly that. I rarely use the Centerline.
great video and very informative. unrelated question what kind of pants are you wearing.
Thank you bro 🔥🙏🏻 the pants are Miltec, chimera.
Thank you very much Mr balas 😁🙏🏻
Well, I actually never had that issue 🤔 I only tried that happen a couple of times, in the Old model - if i lifted Up my body around waist area.
Expedition Hawk I use the pad (with baffles lengthwise)that they offered in the early bird special order about 1.5 years ago.
it seem to me that a 4 point suspension would make sense on this hammock to help reduce tipping.......... a single strap at each tree, with a full wrap, each end going to it's own connection point..... the width of the tree trunk would reduce the swing / tilt. This could be sucked up to a specific width somewhere between tree and hammock.
That might Work, Have you thought about sending the ideal to the @amokequipment brothers?
Expedition Hawk Good thought.... I’ll drop them a line...... I’m imagining the hang points being either side of the bottom of the corner stowage pockets. It would not be difficult to try with a good sewing machine....

Very good review and very helpful. 😀
Thank you very much man 😁🙏🏻
Is the rain fly separate? The newer model seems like a pain.
The Rain fly is seperate yes. Are you thinking The new hammock, or the new tarp? I personally defenitely prefer the old tarp over the new one too

Paul
Hi Max, what kind of sleeping pad do you use in your hammock?
@@ExpeditionHawk Fjol from Amok, I bought it together with a hammock.

Have you noticed the same ? I think it can be solved by shortening the ridge a little, but have written them today about this.

The Boots, its actually a funny thing because I was in a normal Sporting goods shop in my neighboor country Germany.

How flat can it be for sleeping on the side?
Im a sidesleeper, and i have a great nights sleep in it, sleeping on my side. It does curve after your body when laying on the side. So its not flat as a board, but neither curved down like a traditional hammock. Its somewhere in between. And the harder you pump up the mat, the flatter the lay. 😀
