Bless the Lord, O my soul,
Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment:
Who stretches out the heavens, like a curtain:
Who layest the beams of his chambers in the waters:
Who maketh the clouds his chariot:
Who walketh upon the wings of the wind,
Who maketh his angels spirits, His ministers a flaming fire!
Jonathan Dove, CBE (born July 18, 1959) is an English composer of opera, choral works, plays, films, and orchestral and chamber music. Dove was born in London and both his parents were architects. He studied music at the University of Cambridge under Robin Holloway, and afterwards worked as a freelance arranger and accompanist until 1987 when he was employed by Glyndebourne Opera.
In 1998 Dove was joint winner of the Christopher Whelen Award for his work in the fields of theatre music and opera. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2019 Birthday Honours for services to music.
Starting with his breakthrough opera "Flight", commissioned by Glyndebourne in 1998, Dove has gone on to write almost thirty operatic works. "Flight" is a rare example of a successful modern comic opera and has been produced and broadcast many times in Europe, the USA and Australia.
Dove’s innate understanding of the individual voice is exemplified in his large and varied choral and song output, and his confident optimism has made him the natural choice as the composer for big occasions.

Jonathan Easter (our accompanist) is incredibly talented, but he also has a small video screen that helps him out too.

Correct! We do occasional "run-outs" to different locations, but all of our main concerts are at Schwartz.
