Great interview. I subscribed.
So sad to hear of Ray's passing on 30/03/2023. He was 73.
Hooray more Gentle Giant news! Keep it all coming! Thank you Derek and all👍
Another part of their greatness was that they were very well grounded, as much as they could be.
Really? Derek Shulman lost his head. This was the basis for "In a Glass House." As I remember it, after the accidental hit song 'Kites' by Simon Dupree (recorded from instruments borrowed from the Beatles who happened to also be at the recording studio), young women started chasing and pulling the hair of Derek. He went mad and Lost His Head. Gentle Giant was a way of controlling success through the process of both being incredibly proficient as musicians on one hand but being anti-popular as celebrities on the other. They were similar to King Crimson in this way but, in my opinion, produced a far more cool factor historically as artists.
Greatest musician ever? Kerry Minnear.
@@WilliamJones-sf5pt Kerry Minnear is not only the greatest musician ever. He also makes the best soup, so that'd make him the best musicheff ever
@@alanboro I think Kerry Minnear shys away from his incredible proficiency as a musician. Soup chef on top of that you say? So many levels to his genius!
Didn’t know DiCaprio was a GG/prog fan!
LOL, the dirt online was that Phil ran the band with an iron fist (being the older brother), leading to a lot of friction between he and Derek. There was a rule about shagging groupies which Phil broke and left the band thereafter.
