  • I went on one of those, E-bay shopping sprees, you know the ones where you buy something and get more than you planned - 15 hot air balloons later ........ I started a balloon museum
Luck is what you make it, for me, an amateur balloon designer and pilot, I'm lucky enough to fly over a town with 50 years of ballooning history, but there is no museum, no record of the flying endeavours held locally. SO in the boredom of lockdown I spend £3 on a pin badge, contacted the owner of the balloon and asked if it could come to an event in Oswestry (The town mentioned above) - That conversation sparked a new idea, collect designs through the generations, 6 companies with origins in the area, countless variations on size and style - by 2023 the collection has grown to 15 envelopes (the fabric bit) and hosts at least 2, one of a kind designs.
Join me then as I take you on a few road trips, to Bristol Balloon Collectors, the largest private collection in the UK, The British Balloon Museum and Library BBML inflation day, and to Midlands Air Fest, host a meet locally for balloons from the area
I went to Midlands Air Fest and found a very rare balloon from an American collection - a giant race car shape balloon !!! View here • Unbelievable MASSIVE r...
THE BIG BALLOON FESTIVAL - now available on RUclips, Instagram and Facebook - follow the story and enjoy the show

Interesting to see where some of these balloons ended up!

You will have to let me know if there is anything you would like to see, they might be hidden away in a collection and we can find a way to get them to the same field as you. (Or just come to an inflation day and see what we have found) always looking for volunteers to inflate a balloon 😃

That deflation system looks like an early version of the LBL Superchute: A horrible design involving rings that had to be fitted onto a cone that in turn was held onto the crown ring with a safety pin...that was so safe it often wouldn't come out.. Ian A had one in G-KNOB briefly but after we had some 'adventures' with it it was removed for a standard deflation system: My logbook entry describes it as 'interesting'... Ian and I nearly spiked a floodlight on a football pitch because it didn't open!!

Your the second person I've met today who described an interesting landing with that balloon / system. Looks like it was an early lindstrand serial number rides balloon, maybe that explains why they were using an old colt as a test bed. 🤔

I have an unairworthy Cameron O-56 that I was and still may rebuild to airworthyness in the future. In your search, if you happen to come across a Thunder Bolt. Any size between a 56 to 77,000cu.ft. I would appreciate any lead. Keep the ol' girls flying.
Suggestion: I used à box of dryer sheets and that seemed to take out some of the smell. Inflate them as often as possible also helps. Cheers!

Yeah thunder bolt and colt bullet are both quite rare beasts that's for sure, I kile the idea of the dryer sheets, and talcum powder into the fan on inflation a) for smell and b) to block up the porous fabric

@@TheBigBalloonFestival I can speak to the dryer sheets, I've used them with success. It will not remove the smell, it will however improve the overall.
I would be very interested in a Bolt. I'm looking for one that I could make patterns for any available. Actually done even need a complete envelope, just two complete gores and the parachute. Please assist if possible. Appreciate any assistance.

I tend to think `it's my job to protect and keep them for the community until the next person (hopefully in many years) takes them into the future' but essentially yes for now
